Minor update for Nokia Audiobook Manager - thanks for your feedback!
Nokia Audiobook Manager, the PC application for Nokia Audiobooks concept, has been updated to 1.03.
Based on your feedback, the team has made a few improvements and bug fixes:
Change log V 1.03:
- Progress bar works now correctly also for the first converted file
- Corrected CD ripping problems: retry did not work
- Audio volume of converted books is increased for having easier listening in noisy environment
- “Audiobooks” directory now created to memory card if it does not exist, this was causing false error for not having enough space in memory card
On behalf of Nokia Audiobooks team, thanks everyone for your feedback!!
are you planning a Mac OS version?

It works well. Indeed the progress bar has been fixed. And it would be great if you could add support for .ogg and .wma files, so they wouldn’t have to be converted into mp3 or wav in advance. But it’s good enough as it is.
Keep this up. You’re doing a great job.

Hi,
We do not have anything against Macs just that we have very limited resources and no Mac owner in our very very small development team. But we keep this in mind if opportunity arises for a port. Some kind of command line tool with python or something could be maybe possible…

Can’t say anything but great job! That was pretty quick - I’m happy the progress bar is working ok now. Looking forward to see this built-in to new devices soon.

Looks like an interessting application. I tried to install the *.sis file to my N91 but it said that the phone is not supported, is that really true?
I ran one conversion of a audiobook with ten mp3 files. The awb files are created but when I try to use the “copy to phone” option I get an error message with below text when I select the *.inx file.
ERROR
Unable to find audio file: H:\Audiobooks\Trunk Music\Michael Connelly [Harry Bosch 05 - Trunk Music] 01??????????????????????????????????????????????????
Files are missing from the book. Copying not possible !
The awb filenames are like
Michael Connelly [Harry Bosch 05 - Trunk Music] 01 - 01-10 Trunk Music.awb
and the files are not missing, they are right there on the harddrive.
Weird

duh - I turns out I installed the wrong sis file for my N91. The Nokia Audiobook Player for S60 3rd Edition works fine. The sound is not bad even though the file size is about 4 times smaller than my mp3s.
Comment by Christian Steenberg — November 14, 2007 @ 8:58 pm
why does the download file still say v1.02 on it for s60 fp1/2 as it’s telling me its already installed on my phone.

Only PC application part was updated, not the S60 client

hi,
About chapter names, unfortunately manager still lacks the edit function to edit chapter names. It is Beta SW and is not perfect yet… Player does not use file names but it has separate chapter name fields in the book index file. Even manager can not yet edit those fields, you can take any unicode cabable text editor and edit *.inx file (book index file in output dir), which contain those chapter names and you can change them there quite easily. We have plans to include the chapter edit stuff into the manager when we have time to release new version. It is very high position in the to do list

Hi,
Actually the file names are already in the index file in my phone but i cant view them in the player menu. all i can see is file no 1 and 2 and so on. i can see the file names in the file manager on my phone also only problem is that it is not available on the top of audio player menu.
if this problem is solved in further update it will be very helpfull. now we dont know what chapter player is playing as it is showing only no not name of chapter.
Thanks,

hi,
if you look index file carefully, you will also see fields, in which there are those famous file1, file2 etc, i.e, yo have to change those parts of index file, from which the title in the screen is taken, so the actual filenames are not used as a default. We probably correct this in the next manager release, which is coming quite soon (may take 1-2 weeks)

Another vote for a Mac (or command-line Unix) version

Hi,
Great app, loving it.
Just a few requests:
1. A shortcut key for locking the keypad.
2. When I lock the keypad reading is automatically paused at the end of the chapter and I have to get the off my belt, unlock it, press play, relock it and put it back in its case. This is very inconvenient. If I wanted the book to stop I would use the sleep mode. When I lock the keypad it means I want to go on listening and not touch the phone.
3. The ability to convert files in nested folders. My books come on CDs with each chapter in its own folder. I’m force do copy the files onto a directory on my HD in order to convert them.
4. The ability to change the file order in the input file box. Sometimes the files don’t enter the box in the correct order and it could be nice to be able to change the order within the manager rather than having to go and edit the file names in an attempt to get them automatically selected in the fight order.
5. This is a great app for blind/low vision users, I find it quite accessible using Code Factories Mobile Speak/Magnifier software. I hope you will continue to make every effort to make both the Manager and Player as accessible as possible. I can navigate the menus and find my books chapters and bookmarks. The problem is that the graphical into is not very accessible. I can’t get Mobile Speak to read info such as the book title, file name or progress time within the file. Also using the magnification it automatically focuses on the bottom left of the screen rather than on the top left where the info is displayed. I’d be happy if you could contact the guys at Code Factory and try to resolve these issues.
Thanks for a great tool that makes audio books much more accessible.

Loving the Audio book application. The Only improvement I’d ask for is the ability to control it using the N-Series remote? If I’m listening to an audio book through the remote control and headset on my N95 8GB the function buttons on the remote still control still control the music player on the phone not the audiobook player

This is a great app that I have been searching for, for what seems forever. FINALY, I have a player with the option of bookmarks and am able to pick up again where I left off. Runs very smooth on both my 6120C and N95 with no complaints. Sound quality is better than expected. My only request is to please fix the issue of being able to edit chapter names QUICKLY…Please. I did it with no problems by editing the *.inx file as you mentioned and fixed all the chapter names, though it takes some time. I think I will wait for the update before editing anymore (100’s) of chapter names. Just curious, would this option be available on both the Audibook Manager (PC) as well as the Audiobook Player for the phone? It would be nice to control the chapter titles from the Manager before transferring to the phone to avoid having to do any further editing. Thanks again for a great app…looking forward to the updatse.

Hi,
We try to release new version before Christmas, correcting some of the bugs and problems found, one correction is, that as a default, a file name is used as a chapter name. This helps most of the cases. Better editing of chapter info in manager is under construction but I can not exactly promise, when that will come out.

Hi,
I’ve got a newbie question. I have an audiobook that has multiple chapters clumped together in a single .mp3 file.
It would be great to directly access the individual chapters, but I can’t find anything in the Audiobook Manager application that would let me do that. So - how do I add chapters, that would be associated with different parts of a single audio file?
Thanks
Comment by Qasim — December 11, 2007 @ 12:13 am
Hi,
Even manager does not include yet editor for book index file, you can take any unicode editor and after converting book, you should find .inx file in your output folder. In that file there is chapter list section, into which you can edit chapter names and from which file they start and from what time instance. You can check audiobook manager help, it describes index file format for the book. So with this option, all you chapters can start from any parts of your files and audio book client will show those chapters and you do not have to care how they are arranged in files.
You can even have audiobook as a single MP3 file and still have as many chapters as you like.
If you need more detailed instructions do not hesitate to ask.

hi! I was wondering how to input multiple files when making audiobook? I tried to input one file after another but when I select the second file, the first one I selected will be replaced by the second file..the first one will be deleted.

Please add volume boost to audio book player. It is impossible to listen books in airplane or train, even with AD-41 sets.

Hi, Nice to see a decent audiobook player for the N73 been looking for a while. Been playing with conversions and found one that can do most types to AWB. one question i have is , Is there an easy way to create an Index (inx)file for the AWB’s i have converted myself. Thanks George
Comment by George — February 25, 2008 @ 11:44 am
Python script to do the conversion
http://z00854.googlepages.com/bookmaker.rar
Was intended to include chapters from wma markers
And generally barebones
However can be customised to accomodate most feature requests i saw here.
And in theory should work on any platform with python, Mplayer and C compiler.

GOOD JOB and thanks alot.
Love this audiobook-player. No need to use my mp3-player anymore.
1. I miss the timer/sleep function that’s in my mp3-player where you can set the timer. 10min, 20min, 30min… 2 hours.
2. Is there a audiobook-player for series40 (i have 2 phones) that would make my day.
Btw. Since i’m using in-ear headphones (not those that came whit the phone(s)) the volume on the phone(s) is very loud even though i’m having it on the lowest possible volume, on both my phones (6267 and n95-8gb).
Don’t understand why Nokia phones is that LOUD even at the lowest volume setting.

Hi,
Thanks for a wonderful software … I’m using this extensive to study my Quran (Islam’s holybook) which contains 114 chapters. This holy book can be divided into 30 parts, which
occurs in the middle of the chapters, I do use the book mark feature to split into those parts, so that i can read a part at at time …
Issues/Bugs:
What I found was i could not save more than 9 bookmarks in a single book, sometimes a single book mark is shown 3 times, even if i delete that book mark i can see it.
Can you please extend the bookmarking to store more than 30+ book marks.
It normally does not make sense to use multiple books in a single book, but you are reading say a bible or the quran then you may want to do that to refer back to any part you’re interested.
Thanks
Sajid
