I was wondering if you could do some improvements regarding the application’s accessibility for Cell Phone Screen Readers such as Nuance Talks. As I am blind, I use Nuance Talks to make my phone read its screen to me. Most built-in Nokia Applications work just fine. As for the Audio Book Application, Nuance Talks is not able to read the book titles or the chapter titles in the appropriate select dialogues aloud. It does figure out that I am in a list view and it recognizes me moving from element to element, but would not read the element’s name. As most Nokia Applications, such as Nokia Maps, do seem pretty accessible, I guess it shouldn’t be hard to make the Audiobooks App more accessible to Screen Readers. Sorry I can’t give you very technical details. I have just started trying to do some very basic Symbian programming. But I’m always willing to test things out. Thanks a lot!

Hi,
Yes, we are aware of these problems and correcting them are high in our list. We have also tested SW with Talks and are well aware of the problems and hopefully can correct at least most of them in the following releases.

Thank you for your great application. It helps me for usefull timespending during my way to work and back (approx. 2,5 hours a day). Now with nokia audiobooks I am not crying about losing this time. Thank you!

hi! I was wondering how to input multiple files when making audiobook? I tried to input one file after another but when I select the second file, the first one I selected will be replaced by the second file..the first one will be deleted.

Just come across this application , it is fantastic -love it.
However my a2dp bluetooth headset seems unable to control the volume etc. would be a great addition to it.
Comment by Chris — February 12, 2008 @ 1:40 pm
Oh - forgot , also some audiobooks are delivered as one
HUGE MP3 - ability to split this during conversion would be nice.
Comment by Chris — February 12, 2008 @ 1:41 pm
Are you planning to make it open source? I think it can take a real boost…

It just crashed today
I have 6120C and have Motorola HT820 headset with it.
when I pressed the voice command button on the headset while listening to a book, it did go to listening for command mode, but never gave control back to audiobook listener app.
forgive my language, I’m a convert from windows mobile and might not use the correct terms (voice command, etc.), please feel free to correct me…

AudioBook manager
The only thing I didn’t like about this application was the PC part of it. I think that size is not that big an issue these days, I got a 4GB microSDHC card for my phone for 36 AUD (I think it will be less than 20 EUR). time on the other hand is. converting files on pc before moving them to your phone is not a good idea.
but, fear not, there is a way
I’ve written a tiny console app (command line) to generate the inx file for my audiobooks without converting the file format. and what I do is just connect my phone in data mode, copy my audiobook to memory card and run the command line. the audiobook listener IS capable of playing other formats…
I’m more than happy to share the app and source with anyone who’s interested. I’m also interested in helping developing the audiobook listener if possible…
Cheers,
Ali

I noticed that the Audiobook listener doesn’t like a directory structure inside the book directory. Many of the books are ripped from cd using software that automatically creates something like book/disk/file directory structure. some other books are organised as book/chapter/file structure. I’m working on my InxMake application to flatten the structure by adding the directory name to file name to prevent the duplicates, however I think this shouldn’t be hard to fix in the audiobook listener…
Cheers,
Ali

I’ve done it, but honestly I don’t like the idea of having to change the directory structure of the audio book in order to be able to listen to it…

please, please, please, help!!
every time I want to encode mp3 audiobooks files with audiomanager using of course lame encoder , after 4 or five files are encoded, I receive a message wich says can not open wav file, and I have to interrupt .What can I do

On my nokia n75 audio quality is unacceptable when using a2dp headset. If I play the same file using built-in media player, it is excellent. It seems like this app does not work well with a2dp headsets.

In general OK.
However it does feel like a beta release.
I have found a number of bugs. Mainly in the PC application when there are a large number of files ( < 1000).
It is still ATM converting MP3 to awb files but the first few show the following in the inx file
#TRACKS
HP6_C01_T_01.awb:-2147483648;
HP6_C01_T_02.awb:-2147483648;
HP6_C01_T_03.awb:0;
HP6_C01_T_04.awb:-2147483648;
HP6_C01_T_05.awb:0;
HP6_C01_T_06.awb:0;
HP6_C01_T_07.awb:0;
This is wrong.

when I press the left button to rewind for a few seconds, nothing happens and I have to keep pressing; in that case it starts going back fairly fast unless I keep looking at the timer; not good for driving. pressing 4 takes me a minute back which is too much, most of the time you missed one sentence or so. if it could go back about 20 seconds on short press of the left key, it would be great.
Cheers,
Ali

Small python script can convert audiobooks from almost any format in batch mode and with chapters extracted from wma original
http://pybookmaker.googlepages.com/home
In theory should work for non-windows
Comment by Vetal — April 7, 2008 @ 3:57 am
I have developed a free audiobook listener which doesn’t need any conversion. check it out at http://www.platysoft.com.au/Downloads.aspx

hey, i really like the idea of this application, but the thing is that it is NOT working for me..
i can open everything alright, unitil i click the “copy to phone” button, then i select the book, it seems fine, but i can’t select a drive no matter what… i can see the letter for the drive, but it doesn’t get selected when i click it. my N73 is in mass storage mode when i try to transfer the audio books.. but it doesn’t seem to help…
please help me!
thanks

I could moan all day about having to convert my media into yet another format just listen to it in audiobook….but i won’t.
The concept is great but I have to that it should at least be able to play almost all other formats including m4a and m4b.
That’s why I like Scheherazade for S60 so much. I’m running it on a happily on an N81 8GB and it works pretty nice.

Hi,
Apologies from development team but we have been actively working on totally other projects and audiobook stuff has been hold for a while. Hopefully something can be done within near future.
On the other hand, I have been using it meantime myself for several books and at least in my N82, it seems to be working well.
Btw, I bough my first iMac for my home use couple of weeks ago, so maybe there is also better Mac support in future.:-)
Nice piece of HW, have to say, silent, fast and beautiful.

I have to say, this one app would keep me buying nokia phones, I have a ton of mp3 audio books and it is so hard to find a media player that does a good job book marking. When I found this app I was in heaven - works on my e61i very well. Of all the apps I use on my phone this and the podcasting client are the most useful to me.
Comment by Al — July 15, 2008 @ 6:59 pm
I Agree, since finding this app any thought of buying anything but Nokia has left my mind.
Is any work still being done on this beta?
The fact that it can’t load files from alist of direcotires is somewhat anoying.
