Share Online 3.0 graduates
Hereby, we’ll declare Share Online 3.0 as graduated. The beta period is over, and the app (the same version as we released under Beta Labs on 25 January) is available for the masses at Nokia Sharing and Blogging website. Hurrah!!
What’s new, is that the application now supports - in addition to Flickr and Vox - a brand new-service Share on Ovi in following countries:
Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, Columbia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Estonia, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Laos, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovenia, South-Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Ukraine, U.S.A., Venezuela, Vietnam.
Thanks everybody for your contribution!
I’m glad it’s gone ‘Gold’ but I’m really disappointed that it’s not been made available for E-Series devices - I have the E90 and with that fantastic internal qwerty keyboard and huge screen it makes the perfect blogging device - so why won’t Nokia release any decent blogging software for it??
Comment by Steven Muller — February 22, 2008 @ 11:18 am
I like the app very much. The Flickr integration in particular is very impressive.
I hope to see same kind of solution for Share on Ovi too. I say I hope, because all tough I have seen the introductory flash animation (which seems promising) I can’t use the app with Ovi. Finland is missing on the list of supported countries!
When will you/they add more countries to the list?
Comment by Henrikki — February 22, 2008 @ 11:23 am
Hi,
I think it’s a good idea to have Share Online 3.0 graduate, but would like to check if we are now able to turn off the icons that appear on the standby screen?
That was the main reason I re-formattd my phone to get rid of Share Online 3.0 when I installed it previously.
Comment by jianghaoism — February 22, 2008 @ 11:46 am
I wait for E90, too!!!
Comment by Stefan Block — February 22, 2008 @ 1:06 pm
Congratulations! Shame I’ll still be using a earlier version, due to the fact you can’t make the active standby plugin go away! It’s getting more in our face everyday, Nokia/S60 needs to make a active standby API and let us choose what we want on it, like Eseries
(if this is included in FP2 and I over looked it, apologies)
Comment by Fernando — February 22, 2008 @ 3:25 pm
Share online… Hmmm is Nokia LifeBlog completely dead.. This was such a cool application. Please say it is not so and give us a beta of a new “LifeBlog”
Cheers,
Lars
Comment by lars — February 22, 2008 @ 5:36 pm
The version that was “graduated” was v3.0.07.51
I’d be nice if you included this kind of info when making these kinds of announcements so we don’t have to hunt them down ourselves.
Comment by Noah — February 23, 2008 @ 12:18 am
Hi - I have just installed the version 3, however I am getting an error message ‘loss of network coverage (-36) when I try to update my accounts. Also could not remove the application and how to fix the weird icon on my standby screen?
Comment by Sumit Jain — February 23, 2008 @ 8:08 pm
Why won’t you release applications like this for your E-Series phones?
I bought an E61i because I needed a phone with a QWERTY keyboard. I love the phone, but I hate the way Nokia makes me feel like a second class citizen for having went with it over their N series.
I understand the branding angle: N is for multimedia, E is for business. What would it hurt however to let owners of an E series phone (esp. one like the E61i that has a camera) to use an application like this?
I won’t switch to one of your N-series phones until you offer one with a QWERTY keyboard (which I hear rumors about, but nothing is available now). As much as I love my E61i, if something happened to it, I think I’d look to another phone maker because I’m tired of Nokia excluding me and my phone on all their new products.
Just my feedback. Take it or leave it.

Comment by Jukka Eklund — February 24, 2008 @ 9:46 am
it is a shame that no one at beta labs appears to read the comments from the testers.
Many testers have commented on the active standby plugin, it should be made optional.
There is still no mention of it in any of the release notes and of course it can’t be uninstalled without formatting.
Comment by ratkat — February 24, 2008 @ 3:38 pm
Uhhh… Where’s France in that list? :/
Comment by Gobelet — February 24, 2008 @ 8:37 pm
I am also disappointed that there’s no version for E90. I have written an application and it works on all S60 devices later than 2ndv1. I don’t know why Nokia find it so often necessary to make different versions for different phones.

Some bugs. The help manual is absent in Dutch. Also switching to english does not change the share online language…
The advanced setting “publish all image data” is unclear. It does not seem to do anything. It seems not to relate to EXIF data as far as I can. It is a very annoying setting of which not to know the consequences.

Using N82 and Flickr I am able to upload when using WiFi. No problems.
However, when “out and about” and try to upload using GPRS over Vodagroan (UK), I am informed “Posting to Flickr”, and then followed by “Authentication failed”. “Check username and password”. This only happens when trying to upload using GPRS connection. WiFi there is no problem.
Anyone any ideas?? HOW can I access username and password, as neither is to be found within the settings of ShareOnLine3/uploader on my mobile.
NB/ Able to access all other web sites okay, so it iNOT a connectivity issue (per se).
Thanks

I tried to use OVI but once I insert my id and pw and try to connect it gaves me a network error 404. Did anybody have the same?

Comment by Gian — March 31, 2008 @ 11:49 pm
@Kevin Chappel - LOL - Vodagroan! I’ve got the same problem - Ovi’s working fine, but when I try Flickr on GPRS, I get the authentication failed message too.
…as Ovi’s got a higher upload allowance than Flickr, and from what I understand it allows you to download full resolution photos for free, I’m thinking of going with Ovi, rather than Flickr - Thoughts / comments anyone?

I installed this as an upgrade over the previous Share Online that came with my T-Mob N95-1.
But when I try to add my Flickr account I only see the error “Unable to read data”.
Which, for me, is a backward step in the direction of ShoZu.
Help!
Comment by Robert Andrews — April 4, 2008 @ 2:19 pm
Okay, I called T-Mobile to get the stupid content lock dropped that was blocking Flickr. Now the Share Online error is not so much “Unable to read data” as “System error 100″.
Seems like it’s worth removing Share Online and starting from scratch (read that somewhere). In App Manager, I can remove the upgrade version but there’s no reference to Share Online otherwise in there, nor am I able to “remove” from the Applications screen - “failed”. I’m also reading some people can’t remove the icons from their home screen at all.
This is getting annoying. Can’t believe anyone expects this stuff to gain mass adoption.
Comment by Robert Andrews — April 4, 2008 @ 2:56 pm
System error 100 is occurring whether over T-Mobile or WiFi. So it’s not a network issue.
Comment by Robert Andrews — April 4, 2008 @ 3:03 pm
I also just downloaded the Flickr config file hosted on this site (http://www.flickr.com/services/atom/config/nokia/nseries/flickr_configuration_file.cfg?dl=1 via http://www.flickr.com/help/nokia/) to see if that would work. But it makes no apparent difference.
Really wish I hadn’t bothered.
Comment by Robert Andrews — April 4, 2008 @ 3:07 pm
I installed the upgrade on my N82 (upgrade 3.08(7)).
When I start the application, it says: “Checking for new services, this might take some time”
Then, it gives me a System error 400 and System error 9.
Is there any fix for this?
I am connected trough the wifi network at home.
Thanks!

Share Online 3 is installed and working fine on my n95;
but as Flickr released its video service this week, I’d really like to be able to upload videos the I made with my n95.
Unfortunately, Share Online only allows uploading images to Flickr.. Can this restriction be bypassed somehow so uploading videos will work?
OR, can we expect an update of Share Online which will support uploading videos to Flickr?
Thank you in advance!
Comment by RJ — April 11, 2008 @ 1:55 pm
Hey, how can we make our own config files? In Share Online 2.0, it was easy to set up a new provider. Share Online 3.0 only has three providers and no recourse to add one of our own.
Halp!

I got a n82 with the latest firmware which installed nokia share 2 and geo tag on the camera. When i took pictures i could include geo location with my camera and upload to flickr which placed my pic properly on a map. Later i decided to upgrade nokia share to version 3 and now when i upload a photo with nokia share 3, the photo is placed wrong on the map at flickr. I performed a test by uploading the same picture to flickr without nokia share (by pc or mobile site upload) and the photo was placed right. So it’s clear that nokia share 3 messes in some way the geotags on upload. Any solution for that?

Comment by solnyshok — May 15, 2008 @ 12:04 pm
It DOES NOT work with N73! it gives a Network Error 404. Please help me. I have a vodafone WAP connection, and the connection works.
Comment by squeeze — May 22, 2008 @ 7:53 pm
I’m getting 404 errors as well when retrieving services, but only when using a customised Atom 1.0 service XML (based on the one Flickr is using), a simple Atom 0.3 feed XML works fine. NSO actually says “your account has been activated” briefly after the 404 message disappears, but will not have registered any services.
The oddest thing is that actual file is being fetched from the server just fine (status 200), so something else must be going wrong.

After install Share v.3 no flick, no vox, no ovi,
Maybe its because i am in China and i get a web service from nokia call Nokia-imaging.cn
Do the new share online geotag based on ip so i can not get my flick account?
Comment by Charly — May 27, 2008 @ 6:06 pm
It runs smoothly on my N95 which I use during the weekends but is unavailable for my E90 that powers my business initiatives. This is a real hassle since I’ve managed to sync every single byte between the two behemoths. Come on you guys, it’s silly brand marketing that stigmatizes E90 users. Who are you to decide what apps we should or shouldn’t use because it doesn’t fit the image that you developed for a particular phone or series.
Comment by k0j — May 31, 2008 @ 3:03 am
… Besides - I think OVI will be far more interesting with those E90 video clips that have the electronic image stabilizer applied to it. Those clips look really awesome compared to todays standards.
Comment by k0j — May 31, 2008 @ 3:05 am
To Charly
I got the same problem, Nokia seems to like having special business with special countries.
I tried the link of Jukka Eklund up above :
http://thesymbianblog.com/2008/02/22/if-flickrovi-doesnt-show-up-in-share-online-3/
the download works, it says it saved the file in share online, but when I open Share online (ver 2.07.37), It’s empty…nothing…
upgrating won’t change anything for chinese users, here are the country availability for Share Online3.0 :
Flickr
Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Russia, San Marino, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, U.S.A., United Kingdom, Venezuela, Vietnam.
Vox

as you can see, China’s nowhere…so if your read chinese, enjoy Nokia-imaging.cn, if you don’t, change brand, as Nokia seems to like it sooo much working with the chinese government who wants to control web content.
Sorry no politics here…I am just so disapointed between lifeblog who works only with typepad and a useless Share online, what is my N95 worth for ?
I guess I’ll still have to work with Shozu. At least I still have some choice with it.
Comment by Petri — June 6, 2008 @ 8:27 pm

if you update to 3.0 and then use the link to upload OVI and Flickr, it DOES work… even if nokia says it’s not working in China…

I have a N95 with the lattest firmware and nokias share online V3.
I have managed to get Flickr up and running but when I try to connect to VOX it gets stuck on the retrieving services message.
Im not getting any error codes as I see that alot of other people here are.

In Austria there should be Ovi available, but the only service provider share online finds is: FLCKR
Any ideas, how to solve the problem
Comment by karlsc — June 12, 2008 @ 12:13 pm
I’ve just tried to use Share Online 3 on my n95 on Vodafone UK, and it’s telling me that authentication failed. Doing a bit of googling reveals this to be a bit of a recurring problem with vodafone customers and SO3… Quite disappointing really that it was graduated with this problem still apparent.
I’ve connected to SO3 with my WLAN connection, and it’s wonderful, really easy to use. Can imagine it would be brilliant for when I’m out on roadtrips and want to share my experiences right away. Of course, it’s completely useless at home when I’m sat right next to my PC!

I am also still waiting for the e90 version. I see the point of marketing the n-series different to the e-series. BUT who carries two phones with him and gets the n-series JUST for blogging?! That is a bit ridiculous.
Please release it for your flagship phone at least unofficially (just disable the e90 non-installation lock).

Comment by Ranvijay — July 20, 2008 @ 5:25 pm
The standby icons have to be be optional, or people will blame you for messing up with their own personal device font screen.
Get rid of those, or let the users get rid of those.
If that’s a “bigger boss” decision, well report how many users did like that feature, and how many are considering to format their devices just for that.
By the way on N78 (Symbian 3rd FP2) Share on line is bundled in the phone OS so even formatting will do.
