Nokia Maps team replies to All About Symbian
Steve Litchfield writes at All About Symbian:
It’s not every day that you get direct feedback from the team behind a major manufacturer’s software project. Following on from my Maps 2.0 preview, Nokia got in touch, answering some of my criticisms and giving more information about the future of the product. What’s going to be added next to Maps, how to plan routes for free, why the satellite images aren’t quite there yet, integration with Location Tagger and a future web-based map sync tool, it’s all covered.
Nice.
I loved Steve’s comprehensive preview, but even more, I love the fact that our Maps team truly listened - and took time to talk back. I think we have a big and hairy win-win thing going on here.
still waiting for a release for the e-series devices. Likd the E61 devices

Forget the E61 won’t you guys?
One thing I’d like would be a gps activity indicator, like the memory card indicator in newer FP2 phones and the bluetooth icon. A little satellite icon flashing when trying to get a fix and still when fixed.
Would be much better then have to keep maps (or whatever app that uses gps really) in the foreground to see when it’s fixed. Or to see if there is any background app trying to access the gps hardware that you don’t know (Location Tagger and google maps, for instance)

Hi Tommi,
I hope that the developers will post another reply soon. I’ve made may many suggestions and bug reports now about Nokia Maps 2.0, and it would be good to have more of them responded to.
It would also be great to know when we might get a new beta with some of the reported bugs and issues fixed.
Thanks, Geoff

Is there anything being done about the new zealand maps?? There used to be a very limited version (7mb file)… with beta 2.0 this is now 0.7mb (only an outline map!).
Please please do something about the new zealand maps!

Ditto on the post above, Markus.
I live in New Zealand as well and am shocked to find there is now just the outline in the new beta.
Are we EVER going to get proper road maps & navigation in New Zealand? We’re smaller than Australia, yet we still don’t have nav maps here!! C’mon NOKIA!

P.S maybe nokia beta labs should have a bug tracker site for people to report bugs!

How can we modify the interval GPS samples are taken? When im travelling with bike with some speed theres too much distance between points (bad when theres a lot of changing directions) Couldnt it be a function of velocity for example?

I second the request for a decent NZ map. The beta might be completely useless, but version 1 is unusable as well - it seems about 30 years out of date.

Dear Nokia team,
I’ve noticed a big problems of Nokia map beta compared to the previous version:
Cannot search for itinary in offline mode… In the previous version, i could seach for itinary from any address to any address (just like google map), and i could even have the navigation simulator, all without being connected to GPS.
Well, this is just a feedback, and I hope that this problem will be solved for the released version…

At least on one zoom level, the road seemed to to be placed wrong, near Salo, I didn’t drive on water even though it was Easter

Tracking mode would also be nice feature!

Is this the place you want the bugs to be reported?
I found one: I tried to organice my landmarks and I created folder Helkilöt, application crashed. It worked out fine without ö-letter.

Am I right in thinking that under Maps 2.0 I can’t get even a list of directions without a GPS receiver? I;m not asking for turn by turn as I travel, as that would obv require GPS, but a list of route guidance instructions once you give two locations a la Google Maps absolutely should be critical feature.
if it is present, it is extremely well-hidden.
otherwise, great job!
