Gizmo for S60 updated to 1.1.013
Quick note: Gizmo for S60 was updated to v.1.1.013. (no change log available, sorry)
Also, the project just got a new product manager. The original one - lovely young lady who prefers to stay anonymous - is heading for new challenges*, and she asked me to publish this note:
Hi people! I would like to send you chocolate and flowers but instead I write a short boring note

I want to sincerely thank you for all your time and effort with Gizmo. You have had a great impact for developing the application but also our way of working. I also want to thank Tommi for the great work. Hope to meet you soon again in Beta Labs.
Ms Productmanager on behalf of the whole team
* = this is not a definite goodbye, as she liked you so much that she might come back with a cool new Beta Labs launch later this year…
Tommi,
No changelog available is kinda sucky, to be completely honest. I mean, there’s NOTHING that can be said as to why to update? I’m not trying to be rude or anything, but it doesn’t really entice me to download and install an update that apparently does nothing (other than increase the version number).

So it’s installed and seemed pretty kewl on my N82. When I went to Internet tel and chose to disconnect from service cause I wanted to turn off WLAN usage. The phone locked up. Removal of battery was only way to fix.
Is there a better place to report bugs?

Will not install on Nokia E51. Gizmo reports updated version available. When you click to install, it will start normally, but then reports update error!

Disregard not installing on the E51. I am just learning to read instructions. Must uninstall first. HA sorry.

Well, I can’t seem to get this to install on my N80IE. I logged into Gizmo using an old version and was told to upgrade to a newer version. Removed the older files and tried to reinstall the newer version. The services support package installs OK but the new Gizmo package virtually fails as soon as the installation starts. No error code or meaningful message is given.
Any ideas?

Installed Gizmo on N82 but when I select ‘Go online’ in Contacts it does not connect. If I use existing account regardless what userid/passwd I put in, nothings happens. If I select to create new account it gets created but then I cannot connect to it anyway. Pls help.

I just installed Gizmo but there’s a serious UI and information problems here. Firstly I installed it to see how I could connect to Yahoo or MSN IM.
The manual does not explain how to actually key in your own Yahoo IM login (or MSN for that matter) so how will it connect to either YM or MSN? The manual claims you simple select a contact and send IM. This seriously does not make sense and I’m an IT professional using S60 devices since 2004. From my experience with Fring, Nimbuzz and the like, you at least need to key in your MSN, YM, Gtalk info for it to work. Now if they claim you can only IM to Gizmo users, then there is serious false advertisement going on here. If there is a way to connect to YM, MSN or GTalk, then the UI or help files need to be updated because if I can’t figure it out, I seriously doubt the average Joe can.
Secondly trying to add a google user does nothing either. I added a new Google contact via invitation but the gmail account shows nothing.

I want so desperately to love this app but I’m running into a problem that is spawning hatred towards it.
Gizmo constantly searches for a WLAN connection, even though I am already connected to GPRS and have my phone’s WLAN scanning turned off and setup Gizmo to only use GPRS. This is quite a problem since this causes massive battery drain, depleting a full battery charge within a few hours.
I’ve noticed that the WLAN symbol (WLAN searching) appears when I do the following: 1) Open Gizmo 2) Select “Go Online” 3) Then select “GPRS” as my access point.
Gizmo will connect via my GPRS connection, but it will also start scanning for WLAN at the same time. It can only be turned off when I click “Go Offline”.
Has anyone else come across this? I’m running this app (v1.1.013) on a N95-3 with the latest firmware (v20.2.011).

Hi, Anwar
The questions you described still occur on my phone.
But inviting a Gtalk ID can be performed successfully here on my phone. There is a prompt to let user choose yes or no, in order to accept or not.
But when I added a MSN account, there nothing happened. I think this maybe a bug here.

When you add(import) your AIM buddies, Gizmo will not add buddies that have spaces in their username. Example: “test” will be added but “test test” will not be.
Hasn’t anyone else noticed this? I’m missing 25% of my AIM buddies on this thing.

When I receive a call from Gizmo to my N82, it hands up. Does somebody has that problem too?

Works great on E61i, thanks! Wish I had more control over the presense for other IM networks. Making and receiving calls works great using the WLAN at home and at work. Switching between celluar and internet tel. calls worked as expected. Sending DTMF codes was tricky, and I have not yet been able to navigate an automated switchboard using gizmo. To be fair, neither has this worked using Fring + Skype. All in all, the voice quality was excellent, and the overall experience was great.

Which version of Gizmo do I need to dowlonad for E71?
Comment by Nimish — July 30, 2008 @ 9:52 am
Works great too on N95 8G ! Thanks ! - I use it without exhaustion of my battery (i used fring before, who is a battery killer), and the voice quality is excellent.
Alas, i regret four things/options :
- a vibrator on/off option ;
- an auto display when receiving a message on/off option ;
- better emoticon compatibility with msn ;
- file transfert capability with msn;
But, above all, it is a very good application and a great work !
