textmessenger.PNG

Key changes:

  • Can be installed also non-English operating systems
  • Corrected bug: If device was connected in Non PC Suite Compatible mode (i.e. MassStorage), it crashed the sidebar

Please note: When updating the existing version of Nokia Text Messenger, please reboot the PC after the installation, as is instructed in the installation program. If this is not done, application does not find the device.

  1. the idea is brilliant, but the fact that i have to keep the sidebar open to use it drives me nuts! can the team who built this make it an icon that sits in the task bar (the row of icons next to the clock) that simply notifies me when someone send me an sms and then when i click on it it reveals the complete UI. something that can and should be written in Qt so that it works across all operating systems. ;-)

  2. Does this work on other inboxes of the phone as well? (i.e. Blackberry)

  4. Hi,
I think there’s no link with the application but do you know if it’s possible to show the new Sms and Email on the front screen on an Nseries like it does on a Eseries?
Thank you and sorry for putting this here

  5. I completely agree with Stefan. There are people who do not use the Sidebar and still want the text messenger to work. Eg I’m on a 12.1″ laptop and I hate the sidebar as it makes the desktop feel even more smaller.

  6. The Sidebar Gaget properties menu (or whatever it is called) shows that, even after uninstalling old textmessenger and installing the latest version, the installed version is still 0.0.8.0.

Am I somehow failing to uninstall and install it properly or is it just a bug?

  7. Hmm. Can´t use this.
Why is it limited to this damn sidebar, which many people only use the first week they have Vista installed, so I agree with the first poster. Sidebar is a complete concentration killer in workhours
Though support for win XP would reach 90%, so for me no need for all OS´ses

  8. I agree with the comments already posted: please release a version of this that stands alone, and isn’t limited to use in the sidebar.

Maybe a Yahoo Widgets version or something like that? (Stand alone would be better though).

Vista’s sidebar is very memory hungry, and takes up too much screen to be useful, imo.

  10. Yes, desktop SMS requires more attention that just a gadget.
Make it a desktop app, and one that supports XP as well. Please.

  12. great idea and I nearly downloaded this. until I read that it was a sidebar gadget… shame!

Vista sidebar is the biggest waste of resources and time and energy (other than vista itself of course!)

I too would like a desktop app instead. I NEVER ever run sidebar (really, what’s the point?)

  13. I dont understand why everybody’s hates the Windows SideBar?

“Vista SideBar is the biggest waste of resources and time and energy”

SideBar just uses 15MB RAM with 7 gadgets running. If you’re using SideBar, you’re running Microsoft Windows Vista, and it’s recomend at least 1GB RAM, then, Windows SideBar uses the 1,5% of all your RAM, NOTHING!

  14. The gadget installs fine. I add it to the sidebar.

Whenever I mouseover the gadget I get:
    A Runtime Error has occured.
    Do you wish to Debug?

    Line: 7
    Error: Object Expected

If I click No and move the mouse again, same error!
