Granted that multimedia-wise, Nokia will need to use a different framework for doing video conversions, but GStreamer is maturing very nicely, and Mencoder is also an option. I suppose we could install into /sw or /opt, but I am not sure I see the difference there to be honest. Also, the reason we don't install into a user's personal directory is that we have to account for the case of a particular machine is used by more than one user. One more thing on this topic: the reason we don't install inside the actual .app directory and localize it is that there are actually several different binaries that are contained within this app and if they're launched from the .app dir, they each get their own icon on the Dock -- not a very good user experience.
