Communication Center / PC Suite team loves your feedback (with some examples)

thank_you_typewriter.jpg

The Nokia PC Suite team, who is now piloting the new feature Communication Center through Beta Labs, is very much impressed by your passion to test their stuff and contributing your thoughts. They asked me to thank you, on their behalf, for your overwhelmingly abundant feedback!!

Here are some concrete examples about what they have appreciated the most:

----
A. Most inventive

By Sergey Zak:

This is simply indispensable to those of us who only use N-series PC Suite.
BUT a couple of feature wishes :
1. Please make it minimize to the System Tray.
2. Please show baloons from the tray when SMS/MMS received/failed/sent etc.
3. Allow replies/forwards from the hyperlinks in the baloons.
4. Detect and smartly sync the content.
More visions here.

Good luck! and thank you for twin resurrection

B. Best suggestions

By C Perera:
Calling functionality.

Might seem stupid, but If i’ve got my phone on a docking station, I really don’t wanna fiddle with the phone. If there is an incoming call, have a skype like popup with answer, reject, send sms. If answer is clicked, pick up the call, and switch phone to loudspeaker. Perhaps have an option to use computer speakers/mic.

And by Alex:
Somebody tell me please plz, is there any CONTACT GROUP support added in this version?

Let's see if this stuff gets implemented ;)

I'm missing a few things in the communication center as well as in the original PC-Suite:

- assignment of the default numbers for telephone calls (important for voice calls), SMS, MMS etc.

- the possibility to add multiple numbers of the same type to one contact (e.g. two private mobile numbers to one contact)
This is possible directly on the phone.

Furthermore there is a bug in the contact management:
For example if you have a contact with a general phone number assigned to it and you cut and paste this number in the field for the office phone number and save this change back to the telephone, you will notice a weird thing when opening this contact directly in your mobile's phonebook: The contact will have the newly assigned office phone number AND still the same number assigned as a general phone number! Wheras the communication center (the PC-Suite also) only shows the newly assigned office phone number. By changing a few contacts this way you can easily generate many unwanted duplicate numbers...

I am using a Nokia E50 (RM-170; v07.36.0.0).

Would be nice to see some of these problems fixed in future version.

Best Regards
Sebastian

Hi . I am using Nokia PCSuite. It's connected to Nokia6070 via IR. I see when phone receives the message PC suite will not detect and refresh the message list on PC.

Is it really a defect or i missed some settings?

Nokia PC Suite syncing with Outlook is still well below acceptable standard. The Company field (importantly) and others are still lost in the synchronisation - how difficult is this to fix? Is it possible to build in some sort of field-mapping setting? The reallocation of multiple field data into a single field with comma-separated values is ugly, but the loss of data (eg. truncation of comments field and maintaining the reallocated fields - effectively loss of original Outlook field data) when it syncs back after updating a contact on the phone is unforgiveable.

This is the one app(with the improvements Sergey Zak)that i've been missing with my Nokia. Keep up the good work, and please please implement Sergey's suggestion!

Synchronising categories is a thing that is on my wishlist since the very first time i used the sync with pc suite. And i know a lot of people that want that feature. Actually, i guess every person that uses his nokia as a organiser that much, that he invested into a third party calender application, wants it.
Categories are stored in the database and the api supports them. They are simply not synched.

Hi there I'm an old Nokia user back to Nokia.
While I appreciated the improvements on the PC Suite (7.1), some old problems or features are still left out:

** Contacts sync is too basic **
- you cannot sync from multiple contact folders, a very common scenario in office environments, I currently use 5 folders containing contacts
- you cannot sync from "Public Folders", another very common scenario; you should absolutely enable this feature
- You cannot filter contacts by category; it's very handy to exclude/include contacts in sync, by categories

** instant notifications are missing on some phones **
- My N96 for example is missing ALL instant notifications from PC suite; as a result you need to force sync in Communication center to see if any new messages\calls have been received

There are many syncing tools out there that perform those basic actions on other phones... MyPhoneExplorer is a good example (free software for SE phones)

Have we got some chances about those features? I can offer my help testing this feature in a bet version schedule, if possible.

Please let me know

I have my N95 8GB now for 4 months and I love it. However, I do have issues with syncing over bluetooth using Windows Vista 64-bit; support for the two different dongles I tried is problematic at best. At some point it works and a couple of days later PC Sync cannot find the phone any more.

Now that the N95 and other models have WLAN, why not sync over the network? It would make me very very happy if that was possible. No more need to buy a USB Bluetooth dongle, no more cables and a technology that is much more reliable.

If it is possible to put a authentication and encryption on it, you could even sync over the internet for the more advanced user. For home- & small office broadcasts can be used to find the right PC.

I have been using the Nokia Communication Centre from its beta. The product looks really good and this was something Nokia was lagging behind. But still Nokia is not upto the standard for a product like this.

Few drawbacks in the application
- It takes a long time to update a new sms when connected to the phone. Otherwise we might have to sync/refresh it to update the new incoming message. When we refresh also it downloads all the message from the phone and hence takes long time. Need to implement the logic and speed as you see in Oxygen SMS Manager software. The application is really fast and updates the new sms very fast to the pc application.
- If a contact has more than 1 number listed as same type like mobile itself then it would not show up in the PC Suite Contacts

More than the second the first thing needs to be addressed else the very purpose of this application does not serve good.

It seems great to have these great features, but I'm still waiting for basic features as a Mac user. I can assure you that there are many users like me who are disappointed in the lack of Mac compatibility of the Nokia tools. I'm starting to doubt whether my decision to pre-order a Nokia N95 8GB (waited almost two months) instead of an iPhone was a good idea. I hope you prove me wrong and will give me and many other Mac users a justification of spending nearly 800 euros on a phone. If you do, you might give me a reason to keep buying and recommending Nokia smartphones.

Nice Job but still a lot needed..
I think Nokia PC Suite team has done a great job in this new version (7.0.7)But the main purpose for which it is required most i.e. Contacts syncing with MS outlook is left with no changes.

Please add the support for multiple numbers of same type (mobile, general) or at least let us do field mapping before syncing.

Regards
Vikas

I support this one wholeheartedly. I have quite a few contacts with several office numbers, as well as many contacts with several mobile numbers. (Whatever strabge it may seem, the latter is quite a typical situation for Ukraine. Due to a big difference between the cost of calls within the operator's network and "external" calls, many people here carry two or even three cheap mobile phones with numbers from major operators.)

I have n95 and have updated my pc suite. a nice surprise were the two buttons on the bottom left handside one for calendar the other for messages.
Press the calendar and it pops up, press a date and it shows you what is on that date.Great.
So, why can I not add to the calendar by using this option rather then outlook???
Is it possible but I havn't figured it out??
If it is not possible I hope Nokia is listening. I think it would be a cool little possibility.
Thanks

I have Nokia 6260 connected thru Bluethooth and when I am opening Communication Center, it starts loading messages from my phone and shows list of messages in the windows only for a second and after that it refresh automatically and removes messages list from the window. So I can't see messages list. I think this is a defect in Communication Center.

There is mainly two things I really hate about nokia pc suite 7.0.7.0 and the communication centre.

Very often I unfornately saves a number under a contact, and I already have that number saved under another contact. Then it's impossible for the phone to show me who the message came from.. I have to add zeros to the end of the number and try calling the number again and again to find all the places I've double or triple stored the number. It should be an easy feature to implement checking for numbers stored more than one place.

Another thing is the image downloader. It opens when I connect my phone, but after it has checked that there are no new pictures or videos to store - it doesn't close automatically. Please fix it :)

Besides that, The communication centre bugs because I have delivery reports turned on - and it thinks I'm getting a new message. While I'm not.

But 7.0.7.0 is my choice of preference, it should go public asap. There are so many tools for sony ericsson phones, like myphoneexplorer-
Nokia could definetly learn a thing or two from them. Like the ability to keep my contacts, but only on the pc - because now I have 890 contacts on my phone - all with multiple phonenumbers and e-mails, etc. I'd also like to have a safe way of backing up old messages, to keep them in the PC so I don't have to keep so many sms and mms'es.

Regards,
Kristian

I can't believe text messages sent through PC suite can't at least get saved to the sent folder on the PC and also to the phone sent folder. Various web posts say things like "that's just the way it works" - seems amazing that software can't even save locally to the PC when sending text. Big hole in functionality as writing long texts on the PC as opposed to typing them in on the phone keypad is one the best reasons to use PC suite.

I am using E51, PC Suite Version 7.0.8.2 which comes with Communication Centre 1.0. I am very annoyed that the cut and paste function does not work any more in adding new contacts. The older version was fine. Also, why can't PC suite support the contact group, like on the phone ?

When I send an SMS from PC Suite 7.0.8.2, it doesn't save the message in the Sent folder and thus I cannot get a delivery notification.

I hope to have two options:
1) Save the sent message to the Sent folder on the mobile phone.
2) Request delivery notification for outgoing messages.

Of course, on the mobile phone 6131, both options are working just fine.

The most needed feature is the default numbers assignment. Of course, I can do it on the phone, but why I have to do it there, and why this data cannot be synchronized between phones? Today I changed from N95 to N85, everything is copied, but not the default settings... Very annyoing.

I have a problem with my E51 phone. I've modify some record in the phone's address book (like add a phone number to any contact) but Nokia Communication Center don't display the changes and display only some details (not new changes). What kind of problem is it?

I was impressed by the suite and how it allowed me to use my PC to interface with my phone. My favorite feature is the Messaging allowing me to send and receive text messages. Now as a programmer, I would be tickled with the ability to have an API allowing me to programatically check my Inbox, send and receive text messages allowing me to use my phone as an SMS gateway, so I don't need to buy a more expensive GSM modem.

Still no changes on text message saving sent through PC suite.

We really need this function

Also would be great to direct which directory to use in outlook contacts - as, to work around NOkia PC suite right now I need to manage 2 contact directories on PC
