  1. This is a minor update that contains just a few bug fixes in the area of a) Music Transfer b) Performance and C) Artwork enumeration.

We are getting now closer to our full release, which will be available in a matter of weeks. Thanks everyone for your excellent contributions over the past months.

  3. Nokia music doesn’t recognise my n95 or connect to it.
Pc suite is connected via either Bluetooth or Usb, but is not picked up by music.
Nice little application although doesn’t seem to like compilations or various artist albums.

In questa nuova versione sono solo stati corretti alcuni bug che riguardavano il trasferimento dei brani musicali, le prestazioni e la grafica. Potete scaricarla qui sotto. 5. Queue doesn’t make much sense when shuffle is on. It just shows some names which have nothing what so ever to do what is playing or going to be played next. There should be easy way to make library show details of song playing (in album view to show album it is from and so on).

  7. Jason: You phone won’t show up if connected in PC Suite mode - it needs to be connected in ‘Media Player’ or ‘Media’ mode. Thankfully forthcoming devices have rolled this mode together to avoid this confusing user experience.

  8. Runs great on my PC, but the watch folders thing is a bit screwy. If I have a file already in my Library, and I go move the raw file around, or change the tag in another app (like Winamp), I end up with 2 files in my NMPCC library. One is a remnant of the original, with the little triangle-exclamation point icon, showing me that it can’t find that file, and the other is the correct, current file.

The problem with this is that I can’t seem to mass-remove the remnant entries. There needs to be a button somewhere that says ‘Remove Unfound Files’ or something like that, or simply have it done automatically (if it can’t find the file, remove that from the library). As is, I have to manually pick through 11k tracks to remove the few hundred that I changed.

  10. Pretty good so far though I have 3 gripes -

    1. Album art is an obvious problem and an annoyance, though possibly more to do with the way it is incorporated on the actual phones (I have an N82)

    2. When you have scanned in the songs on your mobile, you are unable to edit any of the song tags/details?! This means you have to delete, edit it on the PC and transfer it again if anything is wrong.

    3. The colour scheme should go back to black, the white just isn’t nice (shallow of me to mention this I know, but its the little details that make a difference!).

  11. A couple of glitches still with Vista

For a few albums double clicking the last song will crash the app - no errors just clean exit. Also, it seems that it’s not able to connect to internet, despite IE being able (where are the proxy settings).

    Minor things
no support for large icons in Vista and Windows setup log is not accessible.

  12. I still cannot connect my n95 8gb. I connect with Media Player mode but it just doesn’t show up.
I’ll have to keep using WMP whick works well with Data Transfer mode.

  13. Thanks Mark.

Couple of things; would be nice to get this app working with bluetooth instead of just usb.
A choice of skins maybe? The initial feel is cold.
Intermittent crashing for no apparent reason?
    Tag editing.

Maybe one for the future, video integration especially with the cool little mini player!

  14. To Add to the Cd Burn Feature.
Ive already metioned in the survey for the ability to drag and drop a folder then the actual music file.
Secound for your burn option there is no place to add artist and album title for the CD(not the tracks, but whole CD)
Another thing i was trying to get info about the burn abilities, nothing is listed for the users knowledge. such as read abilities on other devices, like in my car i read the track info IDTags(i guess thats what its called)But im goin to test for sure. Just somethin to enhance the users knowldge.

  15. Same problem here, my N95 will not connect to the music client, but it’s working perfectly on OVI share, or PC Suite, and Nokia Photos.

  16. What is the story with the album art? All my albums/folders on the PC have album art (a file called “folder.jpg”) and it appears fine on the PC sw. But, when I transfer an album to the phone (E71), I do not see any album art…

It is not supported, or just a bug?

    Comment by PB — July 15, 2008 @ 1:07 am

  17. @PB - I just left this comment on the PC Client Discusiion Forum and in my survey I filled out but figure it might help explain what you are experiencing (Maybe even give you a tip for the meantime!) Here goes : )

“Nokia devices only support album artwork specifically embedded as ‘Cover front’ in Windows Media Player or similar.
When I view my music collection in the PC Client I can see hundreds of covers, all the artwork is there - it displays the folder.jpg from the individual music folders (these are folders bought from stores where the artwork is not embedded as Cover Front like as in Nokia Music Store).
But when I transfer music to my phone the artwork doesn’t make it because it’s not embedded in the way mentioned.
If you go out of your way, you can use MP3Tag to automatically embed all the folder.jpgs to the songs in each of your album folders so when you transfer them your artwork is displayed in your phone… who can be bothered to discover this kind of info when all you want to do is put some tunes on your new machine?

Can the PC Client automatically embed (if it’s not already) the display artwork so it shows on your phone after you transfer it?
I know artwork retrieval will be a feature but this is not a solution if you have lots of music that is not commercially available so you cannot retrieve the artwork from AMG etc…

The software should do this. If there are people who are serious about their music who want to adopt the PC Client as their default music player they’re goign to be severely disappointed!
Even worse, the frustration at not understanding ‘why’ would be very unfortunate…if I could see my artwork but not understand why it’s not transferring I would bin the PC Client and stick to what I know.

I dearly want the Client to succeed but I have been banging on about this problem since the beginning of the year!!
It’s got to be part of the public release… first impressions etc etc.”

Hope that helps! Drop me a line if you need to.
    Best,
    J-P

  18. Hi,
    Re: Artwork
Unfortunately the device music player only support properly embedded album art (ID3 compliant) - not Windows Media Player style folder artwork.
You will be able to automatically retrieve the artwork in the final version and this will embed it for you - or you can manually edit the artwork using ‘Edit Details’in Nokia Music and this will also automatically embed the artwork.

After hearing your comments though we will definitley support folder art in a future version.

    Re: Connection issues
Please be aware that Nokia Music currently does not support PC Suite mode (which OVI Suite uses). new Nokia devices have a ‘combined mode’ so this problem will do away but for now please make sure your device is connected in ‘Media’ mode.

    Thanks!

  19. I have started having a problem with Nokia Music in that when I select the playlists that I want to transfer and I connect my n82 in Media mode only a few tracks from those playlists are transferred. In the bottom left corner it says that it is transferring 105 tracks to my device but it gets to 6 and then stops transferring. I do not believe that this is a fault of my device as this only ever happens with Nokia Music. This has been happening ever since I downloaded the latest version with the performance updates. My transfer problem probably is not helped by the fact that transferring music still takes a VERY, VERY long time.

  20. 1) Which ID3 tag is used as the ‘Album artist’ tag? Isn’t it ‘BAND’?

I tagged all my MP3s with both, the ‘ARTIST’ and the ‘BAND’ tag. However, the ‘BAND’ tag is not showing up as the ‘Album artist’; IMHO it should do so. This causes all albums beeing displayed with ‘Unknown artist’.

    2) Cannot select ‘Path’ column in Tracks-view

‘File’ columns are ok, but I would prefer also having ‘Path’ and ‘Folder’ columns. Or, even better: Let us add some sort of custom columns by specifying an ID3 tag or file property and a column label.

    3) Application performance is too bad

With 25.000+ songs, browsing thru the library is not really fun … ;-)

  21. Still problems with some Cyrillic tags (Artists is fine but Song name is squares, or vice versa). The music management now is just fine (though more control on tag creation - ID3v1 or/and Id3v2 selection might be welcome). I’d like to see option to turn off the album art in Mini player mode.

  22. @Kamen “I’d like to see option to turn off the album art in Mini player mode”:

Clicking the small button (note symbol / mini album art) right to the volume slider toggles the album art display in Mini Player mode. Hope this helps.

Everytime the device is connected to the USB port, starting the Music client crashes:

  25. Hmmm, noone else has the problems with the ‘Album artist’ (see comment #20)? Can anyone confirm whether it works or not? Thanks!

    Comment by Rgmia — July 23, 2008 @ 3:11 pm

  26. Hi Rgmia,

I have this problem too regarding ‘Album Artist’.
A lot of the music I have bought/ripped/imported is tagged ‘Artist’ only…

As a result everything looks fine in the Artist pane but when it comes to the Album pane, hundreds of albums appear to be by ‘unknown artist’. When you click on the album, the artist will be revealed as the data’s there in one way or another but yes, unfortunately it looks untidy unless you’re prepared to go through all your artists and make sure they have the Album Artist attribute… which I did…for the sake things looking as they should in the Client… can’t say it was much fun *heh* : )

Can’t find an ‘automatically update missing media’ feature in the PC Client. Windows Media Player has this to fill in the gaps working in the background to make sure your metadata is complete (you can switch it on and off depending on how you like to manage your collection)

Maybe we could have this for a future version of Nokia Music Client?
Or the option for Album Artist automatically default to whatever Artist is?

It would make that Album view look a lot more complete…

    Cheers,
    J-P

  27. Hi Mark,

Good to hear auto embed of folder artwork to be set up in a future version! Thanks : )

    Another consideration for you that I’ve mentioned in the Forum;

The eAAC+ format is one of the selling points for the Client and of course the built-in MC music player.

I converted lots of music to eAAC+ with WinAmp but when I import it to the Client it recognises none of the metadata. As far as I can make out there’s more than one version of metadata tag for some codecs.

According to MP3Tag the type of tag used in this case on the eAAC+ files is MP4(MP4)

My N81 and N95 read these tags fine so could the Client be provisioned to understand this type of tag in the future? I think it should for the sake of uniformity and to bring it in-line in terms of the eAAC+ codec and to let those with compatible music tagged in such a way easily use the Client.

Hope this might be of use, all the best
    J-P

  28. At least Gracenotes works OK in the Nokia Music Manager bundled with PC suite .

Can’t say the same for the appalling All Media Guide which makes this Nokia Music pc Client unusable in my book.

    Comment by Nick Courtis — July 25, 2008 @ 11:44 pm

  29. Is this the version that is shipping with PC Suite 7 ?
If so my major grip is that it doesn’t recognise the folder structure within my music collection.
I don;t necessarily want to see a long list off all the songs on my PC but I do want ot be able to find the particular folder where I have stored a particular set of songs. This function is available in WMP and the one I use most often.

Following this - we need a firmware upgrade in the Music Player on phone itself to recognise these folders as groups of tunes (i.e add this option to the current ways of grouping by artist, album, genre etc.) so that we can simply tell the device to “play folder” without gong through the hassle of creating playlists etc. - not sure how integrated the Music Manager guys are with the Music Player folk though !

  30. Wanted to share with you the best PC client for music I’ve seen to date. Very impressed with especially the ease of cover image search, lyrics and wikipedia integration. Are these in the pipeline for our Music PC Client?
    http://amarok.kde.org/features

Thinking outloud, we can do better by adding :
    - karaoke feature will be steller where upcoming lyricsare highlighted as the song is being sung, switch to instruments version only of track
    - tips and music scoresheets to play popular tracks on guitar and/or piano
    - links to youtube or Share on ovi pointing to the music video of each track when available

Point here is to bring to our attention that there are tons we can learn from small start-up applications, let’s not just chase the Apple and Google of this world.

    Thanks,

  32. Is it possiblie to sort your music by “most played” so that I have a category with ALL my music and it’s sorted so that the tracks that have been played the most time are highest up in the list. And is it then possible to make it look like that in my N95 8GB. Because this is possible with iTunes and iPod.

  35. Hey there! Already mentioned this in my survey, but thought it might be useful here. For those without bluetooth capability on their PC or notebook, it would be helpful if the Music Client recognized when removable memory cards or external hard drives are connected, displaying them below the PC and CD drives in the left hand side panel. It would also be nice if the music could be exported to these devices, namely the Micro SD cards that Nokia mobile phones use. If the music was exported in the same format as is used by the Nokia phones, this would make the PC Client a very handy program for those without bluetooth who would like to not repurchase all of their music in order to add it to the phone. Features like this. when the full release is made, would make this program a great competitor with the iTunes and Media Player programs since it would be compatible with the mobile phone world.

    Thanks!

  36. Hi a great player so far, really like the get track info option finally my music collection data is almost Correct!!! :)

    Two points though:

1, All the track numbers don’t seem to update on my PC when I get the info for a set of tracks some update the track number and some don’t? I then have to go through and re-update these individually… bizarre

2, I’ve just ripped a 3 cd boxset called ‘Mastercuts Chilled: 3 CD’s Of Essential Chillout Classics (disc 1 of 3)’ … 2 of 3… etc. anyway as a collection of various artists there were a few unexpected things. If I go to the albums view I expected to see either 1 or 3 cd covers for it but I saw 29 one for each artist? Why is this?
Also if I search for the mastercuts album it comes up with a huge page of results … first the scroll bar goes a bit wonky with all these results and again instead of them all appearing in one of 3 ‘tabs’ I got a tab for each album (3) and a ’subtab’ of each artist ordered by name and not track number so when I add the album to the play list they are added in artists name order therefore all the cross mixes are messed up?

This is the only problem I’ve had in ripping with this product, otherwise a really good interface! Nice One

  38. Well it seems its coming its way, but still lot more to go.
I hope the upcoming official release resolve many issues or it will be a big shame.

Anyway rather than nag ill give ya good quick feedback this time.

Ok the refresh rate for “my collection” SUCKS, slow, stupid, needs a make over.
It becomes a tedious habbit to replay files so the application replaces or adds the edited file i just did.

Please ADD a “refresh button” than to wait & see if magic will happen by the application, aslo it takes away from the task of importing music everytime.

Umm aslo i think, but not 100% sure, but for the album view it would show album art and album label correct, but leave artist undifined. Now i assure you that everything is tagged correct. It seemed that it would only display artist name if the tag had album artist info. Why not aslo read of the artist name aslo. Its more common for somoe one to put artist name istead of album artist for the main reason of not being aware of it(like Me) and its not common on file edit or tagging.

    Thx Guys.

  39. Hi, I would love to see a video converter in the Nokia Music PC, I currently use the iTunes, and I’m very satisfied with how it converts the videos to iPod format and then when I synchronize it easily exports my videos so that I can wath them on the way.

PS. The Nokia Video Manager SUCKS, when you convert a movie the sound and video are not at the same time.
