Enhanced Calculator for S60 tweaked based on your feedback

Hi all,

And thanks for the continuous flow of feedback here! I have made a couple of changes to the calculator, based on the feedback. It seems, that many of you didn't like the exit confirmation dialog. On the other hand, I see it as a good usability feature. So, my proposed solution is this: now you can use it or switch it off (by choosing "Yes (Never ask)" option from the menu). Also now, if you press "C" repeatedly, also characters are deleted repeatedly. One more change, I have added some localized string files, for the following languages: German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese and Turkish. Note, that the exit alert is not localized! Keep sending feedback and let me know, if these changes make this application better!

Just posted this in the original calc blog.
--------
Just installed the new Calc program and theirs 2 things to mention:

1) LOVE the loan calculator feature! :S

2) Slight Bug on my N95. If I start the Calc in Landscape mode (The Buttons in Scientific mode are 5 across). If switch to Portrait mode (to enter numbers) the buttons are not adjusted to be 4 across, this causes the last column to be pushed off of the right hand side of the screen.

The opposite happens if I start in it portrait mode, the buttons stay 4 across in either mode.

It should be possible to have it adjust the buttons to suit the mode in which it is displayed.

I didn't find any portuguese localization. By the way, I've been used percents calcs like 20 + 20% = 24, unstead 20 + 20% = 20,2. Lets put this thing better.

same here, works on my n82, not on my n96. nice calculator though

I am not sure about some of the supported devices that Nokia currently uses for its e-mail.... However, I do like the way the Nokia 6133 is set up.

The device is small and has a rugged outer coating to protect the phone, to some degree, from frequent drops. The only drawback that I have with regard to this phone is where the camera lens is located and the outer mini-window. The way the mini-window and camera lens is located, they could be easily scratched. If you wish to take photos or movies with this camera, a scratched lens is NOT what you truly need for clear images.

As for e-mail with this device, I can be able to connect up with Microsoft's MSN Mobile services to retrieve my e-mails. The phone is truly extraordinary. I can write notes, takes pictures, incorporate photos of my grandchildren, set the Bluetooth connection, configure the VRP (voice recognition program) to identify specific names. The phone also alarms and informs me of things I should do throughout the day, it has a calendar for specific date and key information of tasks, a calculator, for specific numberal tasks that need to be performed.

THE DRAWBACKS OF THE NOKIA 6133

About the only problem I have with the phone is with voice recognition program (VRP). The voice program within the phone confirms much of the information within the phone's client directory. But if you have not programmed the name of the person within the directory correctly, then you will have a list of other clients that the software will TRY to identify. This happens whenever I use the Bluetooth application. For my personal remedy of this problem, I use a phonetic dictionary to assist me in programming the names that I need to announce through the phone's Bluetooth application. This is helpful, especially with people's names i.e., spanish, french, slovic etc.

My second issue with this phone is with the applications of certain companies. Whenever I try to use Adobe mobile to download a file that I wish to see, the phone doesn't support it.

The third issue is with the Bluetooth application. I use the Motorola H700 as a connection device. However, the I cannot travel great distances( > 73 inches, and still receive the type of connection needed to recognize voice communications, or while I am talking on the phone to a specific party.

The final drawback I have with this phone is keying information into the "Notes" application quickly. When I have to key-in specific information into the "Notes" or "To Do" list of the application and I have things in my hand, keying with a voice program or being able to key-in with one specific hand would be nice (I guess I am probably asking too much.) Making the software compatable for the user would be supreme. However, I know this is difficult considering manufacturers' of specific applications wishes to keep their market share. Usually, this leaves the consumer-user out in the cold and frustrated.

Does not work on my N96.

Application starts and displays the main UI. Then after some tenths of a second I get an error stating "Application error: Application will be closed". Clicking on Details states "Unhandled exception: Arithmetic java.lang.ArithmeticException / by zero".

wrong computations for loan calculator?

I like it, but it doesn't look like in the picture, I mean the background on my 5700 XpressMusic is completely white! It doesn't show the theme's background :S
I had an S40 phone and I believe the Calculator is better there. I'm used to use * to change between +, -, *, / and now I get somewhat confused! But that's just me, I guess! :P

So, I works perfect except for the background. Great app!

I think, that you should only confirm quitting, if there is calculation going on. I mean some values are already in calculation. Otherwise, it just quits.

The launch icon is terrible. Also it needs to be a full screen.

what it need is to be s60 rather then java, plus would be plus if it integrated currency converter and supported rate update from f.ex. Rss feeds by ecb (eu central bank)

i'm still not happy with the 'EXIT' routine - the confirmation is only needed because 'exit' is on the top right soft key. if it was just from the menu then this wouldn't be required.

an 'about' feature with version numbers would be useful whilst in beta.

in scientific made it would be useful if 'equals' could be selected by a long press of the select button.

it still doesn't render properly in landscape mode on my n95-2 with ASR

keep up the good work, will be a welcome improvement.

Hi all,

I have updated the Calculator to version 1.10 now. Some small changes: Calculator should work now in Samsung devices (and maybe other manufacturer devices with QVGA screens) too. Note, that the screen sizes (or actual drawing area) might still be not supported, even if the screen were QVGA. In this case you should get an error message about this, before the application is closed.

In some devices (S60 3rd Ed. FP2) Calculator was installed to a separate Applications folder. This is now fixed.

Note also, that it might take some time for the application to be publicly available.

Hi
Ive been trying to install java apps to my n95 including the calculator and failed in all tries.

Can u help with this?? In the website says N05 supports the java apps but it semas it doesn't any idea??

THx

Yup. Doesn't work on the n96. So disappointing...was looking for a good scientific calculator. Keep up the good work guys and hope you fix it on the n96.

weirdest of things...works on the n96 when started in the landscape mode. :)

The loan calculator is a financial solver ; could it be possible to build a full-blown solver into the Enhanced Calculator (something like Rick Huebner's MathPad for the Palm) ?
That would be really useful...

Hi,

I've used this beta calculator on N95. He has worked just perfect. Idea of this application is very good too. Standard calculator installed on my N95 has few functions and buttons are placed very uncomfortable.
Now I've installed it on N96. But he doesn't work.
Calculator stops after opening with error report:
Arithmetic java.lang.ArithmeticException /by zero.
I have to write, that he stops before I can't do anything, just after start.
Regards

Sorry, it start but in landscape phone position. After opening in such a position you can change from landscape to portrait position and he still works till closing. Very strange.
