Ovi introduced by Aapo Bovellan, the head of Ovi product management

For those of you who didn't join the virtual event yesterday, here's our man, Aapo Bovellan, presenting Ovi stuff on YouTube, starting around 2:00: (by the way, ask him to start public blogging. Trust me. If he has time, it would be totally worth it)
Also starring: Nokia Ovi Suite, Ovi.com, Files on Ovi.
Some of you might have been wondering, why beta stuff like Share on Ovi beta, Ovi.com beta, and Files on Ovi beta were never announced and debated here at Beta Labs. Frankly, there hasn't been a clear-cut reason. Except that these Ovi initiatives have been too "big" for Beta Labs, and the respective teams have preferred their own promotion and feedback channels. Which totally makes sense.
Anyway, what do you think, should we cover Ovi beta stuff here at Beta Labs too, even if they would prefer* to use their own feedback channels, and participate themselves less on the public debate here?
I vote yes.

* = initially, that is. We hope to conquer the world with the new Beta Labs website, hehe...
Comments:
*Mistake. I didn't mean "spanish and english, but spanish and chinese*
I agree, of course. Online products, online coverage.
I agree too. Heck, even a link to the events/products would be better than no notice here at all.
Yes put Ovi on Beta Labs or even create its own little tab at the top of the page and make both worlds happy. Create a little Ovi enviroment in Beta Labs??
For the sake of single-point-of-contact customer "service", it would be good to see all Beta apps here. So all of us beta freaks could track upcoming things in one place :-)
(Having these competing ideas in Nokia is a nice thing, but it would be good to have better and clear communication channels. E.g. Conversations, Beta Labs, Ovi betas, Lifevine, Events, S60.com, Womworld, Nseries latest news etc. :-)
I say yes to coverage of Ovi here as I for one don't know where the other channels for ovi news are and I am already an avid reader of the Nokia Beta Labs blog.
I wonder how they (i.e. Ovi team) demoed Ovi in front of media when the product is so alpha that didn't sync all the fields of a contact?
Anyway nice little shiny new Ovi icons, that was extremely important for the webcast:-).
Does anyone else have trouble signing in to Ovi? I have a Nokia Account, but when I try to sign in it keeps reloading an incomplete page saying 'It appears you are visiting this service for the first time.'. It has been like this for weeks and the support section of the site doesn't have any contact details.
@fr: Yes, trouble signing in, trouble using it, trouble understanding the basic workflow, trouble displaying their HTML in firefox, trouble not to scream over their blatant usability mistakes... It's so pre-alpha (at least I hope it is) that it's just not worth bothering. I gues it'll be another 6 months or so...
(Which is strange, because it was announced one year ago.)
Of course you should make a coverage of Ovi. That social network is so "forgotten", you guys need to make it Global! Do allow people to post profile comments, do allow people to change the page's background, all those stuff! Plus, add new languages to the service. And i'm not just talking about spanish and english, i'm also talking about portuguese, arabic, etc. I've said this many times on Nokia Conversations, but I guess they just ask people to give a feedback so they can just have numerous comments on their posts.
:p
"Fr", i've never faced any problem logging in on Ovi. Try to clean your cache, or what browser do you use? If you're still using IE, try the Mozilla Firefox or the new Google Chrome.
YES!
Keep OVI here too!
Very strong,I'm NOKIA Fans
I have to agree with you Tommi!
OVI may me "Too Big" but Beta Labs should at least get a look in, it's a readily available source for testing and commenting, the numbers of commentators and testers here is growing daily which can only mean good things for projects which taps into it.
I can see where OVI's coming from they are mainly a WEB based product where as BetaLabs is a mainly handset orientated.
But project heads view of BetaLabs should shift to be one of testing ALL Nokia's Mobile products wither they are Handset or web based. The more testing done with real users in real situations with real feedback will stop all the fiascos of other "Cloud based" products seen in the past few months.
