Another week, another minor update for Communication Center 2.0 beta. During the past week, we have continued to improve the calendar view and overall stability. And as a bonus, there is a new feature too: you can now start a phone call from contacts view.
Any comments about this latest release?
Download here.
@karotte
Thanks for the tip, didn't realize the "Erweitert" button!
But I still have the problem, that a field for a second business mobile phone number (I have Mobil (dienstl.) and Mobil (dienstl.) 2) is not syncronized.
Could you maybe integrate delivery reports into the computer program. It would be quite useful.
The Call from Contacts View seems to only work for contact that has both Mobile and Phone entry filled. If you only have 1 of them (either), the Call is disable (grey out). Is that a feature or bug?
Please add the possibility to add a "group" column in the "all contact"-list.
I installed this communicator on a Win XP pro pc and initilally it made contact with my 6021 through Bluetooth. Only the contacts from the phone memory were synchronised. We I tried a resync the Communicator crashed and kept crashing even after several PC restarts.
The reason I downloaded this application was that I hoped this would read my contacts on the Sim card as well or had at least the possibility to select which memory you want to download or it downloads the phone's active memory selection.
I am again very disapppointed by Nokia's phone comm's programs. Samsung gives you the possibility to synch either phone or simcard memory or even both.
COME ON NOKIA GUYS GIVE US THE SAME POSSIBILTIES OF SYNCHRONIZING EITHER MEMORY !!!!!!!!
I cannot see the SMS in custom folder (My Folders) on Nokia N73.
Some problem with CSV extracts when opening these in Excel 2007 :
- SMS extract : encoding problem (problem is due to UTF8 encoding, bad management in Excel...). Columns are correctly split when double clicking on CSV file.
- Contacts extract : Excel doesn't split into columns the CSV with the Unicode encoding (but the special characters are correctly displayed in this case). When opening manually and set use semicolon as separator the split is good but no separation is done when double clicking on CSV file directly.
I found that the columns are correctly split (with direct open by double clicking on the file) and the special characters are correctly recognized with following settings :
* UTF-8 + tabulation separator instead of semicolon
or
* ASCII (Latin-1) + semicolon separator
The text format (Unix for SMS and DOS for Contacts has no impact but it's not homogenous ;-) ).
Hope it can enhance the export functions.
With such frequent updates (which are a good thing, don't get me wrong), are there plans to implement an auto-update ability, so that rather than manually downloading each update and installing, the application would simply pop up and let us know that an update is available? That's a key feature for an application that's going to be updated constantly.
Its great to see that the call feature has been implemented, but i can't seem to use it... its greyed out...
Not all (by far not all!) appointments of my phone calendar are shown in the PC-Calendar of the Communication Center.
Something that is missing here... Auto refresh!!! And why not an option that allows us to choose time for refresh? Where an option could be, do not refresh automatically.
I think my calendar got corrupt after connecting to the Communication Center. Now memo entries show up on two consecutive days instead of one. And they are not editable anymore. Can't delete them either. :(
Hi,
The Farsi font issue is still remaining in this update.
the fonts are crappy for Farsi messages.
if you need more details please contact me by e-mail.
This would be great. The Nokia Suite update feature doesn't really work at all. Maybe this is because I'm behind a proxy?
As the Ovi Suite includes an Update feature, but so far lacks something like Communication Centre, I wanted to ask if and when this will be integrated into the Ovi Suite. Especially since I noticed that since the last Update (Ovi Suite 1.10), my E-series Phone (e51) is finally supported :)
So, any update on the Ovi integration?
Bugs mentioned in previous versions have not been corrected:
1. Birthday entries cannot be set to repeat yearly. If you set birth year for, say, 1970, you have to click month-by-month to set the reminder day. Plus it doesn't appear on the calendar for next year.
2. Reminder dates cannot be entered manually, which is frustrating if the reminder date is far from the current calendar view.
3. Problem with greek charset contacts for Nokia 2600 classic persists: a character is missing on most of the surnames without obvious reason. The contacts appear fine on the phone. If the same contact is edited manually (re-writing the last name) the problem stops.
4. You cannot set a reminder date previous to the current day. This is annoying since you may wish to edit yearly events from the first date they appeared and you are obliged to start on the first following occurence. The system doesn't stop on the warning screen pointing out the difference. It doesn't allow you to save the event at all.
I updated the communication center and rebooted, now it crashes whenever i start it :(
Still getting the Starting a call failed! error on my N81 2Gb, though it's mentioned that this feature is enabled in this beta. :(
I'm using a E51 and now Communication Center 2.0 supports Contact Groups. The matter is that Nokia PC Sync provided with Nokia PC suite doesn't support groups while syncronizing with Outlook (2003)! In other words, there is no place in Outlook where I can see the group of the contatc. It would be fine if you could fill the "category" field with the "group" value.
Hello,
I also would like to ask about integration of Communication Center into the OVI package.
Btw, I'm getting trouble using the Communication Center with Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition. I can't send nor receive SMSes.
PC Suite 7.0.9.2 (7.1.14beta) under Windows Server 2008
Pretty useful application, but it lacks enough fields for phone numbers (or I haven't found the correct settings yet):
In the phone (E71) I have the choice to use numerous fields like phone, phone (private), mobile, mobile (private), mobile (business), or even add and rename fields.
In the communication centre I only have the fields "Telefon" and "Mobiltelefon" (translated "Phone" and "Mobile"), that's it.
With only these two fields most of my contact information is missing in the communication centre.
I can't delete messages via nokia comunication center using irda and 5140i phone...
@Wildsau: you should click "Advances/Erweitert" at the bottom of an opened contact window, so you will get contact data similar to outlook.
greets, karotte
Development is stopped or where to get fixes?
Nokia PC Suite BETA 7.1.14 has problem in Communication Center 2.0b when dealing with Nokia 8800. The handset hangs while displaying "Finalizing Sync...". Tested on Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7, MS/Toshiba/Widcomm bluetooth stacks!
Please advice
Is it support Thai ? I can see the Thai character but not fully. It is not shown the vowel letter.
Hello
It would be verry useful (beside contacts, messages and calendar) the "Actives notes" connection, so u can manage the notes, from PC.
I am using E90, and it would be very useful.
thanks
Another bug on the birthdays on N95 8GB. When you set a birthday, then you set a reminder for next year for 13:00 hours (the time is indicative, it happens with many different entries) the phone reminder is set for 02:00 or 03:00 automatically. Although the phone continues to show 02:00, when synchronizing the program shows 13:00! If you change the entry from the phone the program shows the correct hour. This doesn't happen for every entry (if you set the hour for 00:01 from the program it keeps the correct hour on the phone). It probably has to do with regional settings on the phone (time for me is set for GMT+2)
On Calendar when in Month view; if you double click on a Memo entry it shows the End time as the next day where in the list view the end date is the same day 23:59.
On Calendar when in Month view; When you set the first day of the week as Monday then some Birthday entries for a Sunday shows on the Monday as well and sometimes only shows on the Monday although it's for the Sunday.
On Messages; Please add the messages and sub folders from the "My Folders" as well. These do not show with my E90 although it seems to work with the 6280 on the previous version of the communication centre.
On Messages: Please add function it Import to your Inbox and "My Folder" folders as well and not only to "Drafts". This will enable you to export messages from provious phones and import it to your new phone.
Adding bells and whistles to PC suite is all well and good but with Vista being such a slap in the face more and more people are moving to Linux.
You are pitching to a reducing number of potential customers by ignoring the Linux market.
OSX and Linux are both forks of Unix operating system, so what prevents you taking the Mac version and using it as a basis for a Linux version?
Don't get me wrong, I love Nokia phones, I love the features of Pc Suite, and would love to keep on using it, but in order to avoid Vista my new PC has to be Linux, and this means I will no longer be able to use your software :(
This is the beta program, surely the best place for thoughts such as this?
Communication Center on OVI, please.
