Enhanced Calculator for S60 updated, archived, and on its way to productization (wish us luck)

new_calculator.PNG

Hi all,

We have now made the final update to Enhanced Calculator for S60. Some minor issues have been fixed - including the compatibility issue with Nokia N96. Hope you enjoy it!

However, it's also time to announce the project as archived. As said in the beginning, this has been a part-time innovation project by one of our software engineers, Jarmo Lahtinen, and by now, the beta trial has served its purpose. We learned that it really makes sense to update the built-in S60 calculator, and that you liked the one ported by Jarmo - but also that it wasn't feasible to productize as such. Instead, we have now initiated a proper R&D project that should result in an improved built-in calculator for future Nokia devices. In the meanwhile, feel free to use the current one that we left it available in Beta Labs Archive "as is".

Many thanks everyone for your thoughtful comments, this was a fruitful exercise!!

Hi,

nice app!

Just one suggestion: please add the decimals to the interest rate in the loan application!

Ah misunderstood you, sorry, thought the current version was making its way to production.

> Still java? And it’s going for production? Really?

No Fernando. As I tried to write in the post, the development of the Java app has been discontinued, and it won't be productized as such. What we are working on to get productized, is the underlying idea. Can't guarantee when and in which format it may end up in devices.

That calculator is very inovating and it'd be important Nokia to include a calculator like that one, as standard on the devices (not only in new devices, but make it available for download for everyone. I'd use it a lot when i'm at the university, for example, a mobile phone is much easier to carry than a calculator. lol

Please please publish the version compatible for N80

I can't see why is it not compatible with N80, if it is java, it should work..... right?

Good news, and may I suggest you taking a look at Chua Welic's cCalc and cCalcPro. His calculator is the best and the most functional there is on any S60 3rd device I have. You could have a basic mode with the Calcium-like system, and a scientific mode à la cCalc. Would be awesome.

OK, it is nice. What about SIS version?

But in Java the program isn't bad too. Thank you very much!

for future Nokia devices. ??

does this mean we will never see current handsets get this when new firmware is made available?

Hey! This app is really great, I use it daily and it's just a big step ahead the old-skool calc!!

I would like to ask you one simple question: why isn't there a built-in S60 stopwatch-countdown clock?? It comes handy sometimes! And I think it's a simpel thing to code... I know there are 3-rd party solutions, but I want one with the Nokia Labs quality!

thank you for your work!! ;)
