Written by Hem K., Mail on Ovi team
Mail on Ovi Beta is now available globally*. All the folks who dropped us a line over the past few weeks asking us when you could set up your Mail on Ovi accounts, get out your S40 phones now and let the magic with Mail on Ovi begin. Connect with your friends and family with a simple easy to use email account on your S40 device.
Consumers can sign up for an email account and access email from their S40 devices. We believe Nokia consumers around the world will love the simplicity of this service. This is truely "Email from Everyone". We especially loved what The Economist had to say about our Mail on Ovi Service.
What has changed in this release?
(A) Account signup was made simpler based on a lot of invaluable comments and feedback from beta users
(B) Availalble globally* now
We can't wait to launch our Webmail release in February, 2009. As always, we look forward to hearing back from you and value all your comments and input.
Happy Holidays from the Mail on Ovi Team!
* Some Exceptions exist
Great email app. It's working fine on my S40 mobile. Can't wait to access it from my pc. Merry x'mas!
You said all over the world-with some exceptions. But France is included. I wanted to change the language of my mail box into french, but didn't find anything. How can I do this. If Ovi can do this for me, would be very nice of you.
Gah! *scourges drawer* I've found a 6126, it's S40, can I get this? :P
mail on OVI works fine, but why oh why did you have to delete all my contacts that where on Contacts On OVI, this has totally peeved me off.
5800 is not listed as compatible, why not? Same with Ovi - 5800 not listed and Nokia Messaging. What do you have against the 5800? ;-) Or what am I missing?
I mean I know it says "for S40 devices", but shouldn't one of the latest and greatest devices be supported?
Dear Hem K.
(*5800 support:
Magnus, 5800 is a S60 device and so the above comment applies to 5800)
Then why it is not in handset list ? if it is not in list that means ovi is not supporting 5800. nokia giving ovi on 5800 also. but y not on website.
@Don Trammell, isn't this post proving the exact opposite?
Hey,
They said they couldnt wait for releasing mail on ovi(webmail) in Feb 2009. We are in Feb already.
How and when it's coming?
Let us know fast
Plus, I've read somewhere that we just have access to this service if we have it pre-installed on our S40 devices.. Come on, the fact that it's just available for the S40 it makes it very limited yet, and now you say that only who have it pre-installed on it's devices will have access to this??
How many people will feedback you about this? 4?
You said "Webmail"?! Does that mean that we will be able to access an Ovi mail service from the web?? How cool! That's what i've been trying to find out! I can't wait for it..
Don't you want to release a beta service just for me??! I want to try it so much! lool
This is one of the biggest things that Nokia has done in recent years..
Hello everyone,
Thank you for your comments and questions. I will try to address some of the questions raised.
* Does Mail on Ovi require any installation on device?
No, Mail on Ovi has been designed to start automatically showing up on existing S40 devices. Anyone with a recent S40 handset (bought in the last year or so) can start using Mail on Ovi.
* I have a Ovi.com account? Does that mean I have a Mail on Ovi account?
If you already have a Ovi.com account, then a Mail on Ovi account with the same username is reserved for you. But, you will have to manually activate your Mail on Ovi account via device signup.
* S60 support:
We are working on S60 support and hope to have that available in the 1st half of 2009.
* 5800 support:
Magnus, 5800 is a S60 device and so the above comment applies to 5800
* 6126 and 5610 XpressMusic support in US:
The S40 devices in US, which come pre-loaded with Oz email client, do not support Mail on Ovi. We are working on making Mail on Ovi compatible with Oz email client in the near future.
Will this be coming to S60 devices.?
Also, Personally having an OVI.com address already within Nokia Chat, will this be ported into OVI Mail?
I am not understanding Nokia more and more with each phone release. It appears that Nokia is more concerned about phone releases than providing services to match.
Will it work on branded devices?
I have tried on a nokia 5610 XpressMusic on T-Mobile USA, it will not allow me to create a new account but just select from the provided choices.
Any comments?
Thank you Hem K. for your feedback.
I very much enjoy this approach.
It gives the users a basis for our feedback, and shows us value to our efforts.
I hope this continues to be a trend in Beta Labs
Great info, we DO expect (though) that the ad-supported model WILL work. //keeping our noses down and pushing ahead...
Sincerely,
The Songnumbers Team
PS, we just pushed out BETA 2 of our site!
I aM not able to understand what exactly do i need to do in order to receive emails on my ovi account?please could you provide step by step knowledge for how to do the same?
Finally Mail on ovi is available to all including s60 and webmail part also goes live !!!
Guys let me know your experiences.
