Will be trying it out tomorrow. As for the answer to your question, throw as much and whatever you can on us Tommi! Audio smileys, Betas of websites, OS, a new font. Simply anything will do. But just be careful and particular about one thing, make the pre-requisites and the information about the testing very very clear. Where even you guys are uncertain about a few issues but still want to pamper us with the really nascent still to be developed babies, then let it be know in clear terms. We don't mind bricking our phones as long as we know that it is one of the possible outcomes of the testing :)
To sum it up, release everything, just be clear about its status.
I think part of Beta labs is making things that may not be top priority, but is interesting and fun. Small applications like this can prove useful or even spark more ideas by the development of them. Just because some do not think they are useful, does not mean they aren't.
Hi Gerrymoth,
Quick questions about your issue
Did you try both S60 versions? Maybe you need to used the "S60pre2008" version.
What kind of problem do you currently have ?
Audio Smileys should work on those phones.
JB
I'd say release everything as long as it includes a funny video. lol
@JB Greuet: i've tried everything to get it to work and still nothing.
Doesn't work with my N95 8GB FW v30 and E71 FW v200, but sounds a nice idea. Hey people are paying for a iPhone Fart App, so nice we can have this for FREE and modify into one :)
Ciao,
any content ideas are welcome!!!
Alessandro
i would actually be mutch more happy that you dont waste time on stuff like this, but rather finish porting maps 3.0 to n95 an other fp1 devices.
there are plenty more stupid and useless apps like this out there.
@Gerrymoth : an important troubleshooting hint (about Warning tone setting) is on the forum.

@JB Greuet: YIPEE! THANK YOU.
Audio Smileys now working with Warning Tones switched ON. Now to find a FART noise :)
These sort of things should definitely find their way into the beta labs. There's so many hidden gems out there that are personal projects and great fun to use.
About the poll, I think this is kind of an interesting post because of it's originality, but I don't think this have a lot of posts, because this is not the purpose of this site.. At least not for grown people usage and developpers, who I think to be the main visitors of this site.
It reminds me of an app i had way back when, on my n70. The screen was divided into 9 icons and each square had a different sound associated with it. It was a game for a very young child, so they could press any button they wished on the keypad and it would bring up a full picture of that icon with a sound, ie jack in the box icon, would appear full screen with jack-in-the-box jumping out and making a noise or press another key for example 6 and it would be a picture of a ball, it would open full screen with the ball bouncing and making the ball noise. If anyone can remember the name that would be great. But it was a sis file. I dont mind beta labs publishing playful applications but i really feel they should be in sis format and not java.
Life is so much more than a rational task oriented series of events. Thumbs up for putting yourself out there :)
Awww no 5800 Version ?
The Pre 2008 version works fine on my E90.
I wish I could send indivdual smiles/sounds to annoy friends/colleagues in an SMS.
But then as my name says Olen Hullu...
Hi Gerrymoth,
Strange...I just installed the S60pre2008 version on my N95 8GB SW v15 and it works fine.
And a friend installed it on his E71(don't know the SW version) without any problem too.
For N95, I don't think any difference between SW v15 and v30 can be the source of the problem...
Is the phone in Silent mode? If so , please try the application in Normal mode.
Hope this helps.
JB
Oh the fun to be had with this by modifying the sounds :)
Would be very useful for live podcasting to play jingles, too, so I do see a "serious" application there.
@brkix - Right, because there's exactly 3 developers at Nokia, and all of them totally stopped working in order to make audio smileys.
FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU
what about nokia maps 3.0 for 5800? what about sport tracker for 5800??? what about .... ... ... ... ...???
This app is the biggest shit that I ever Known. Real apps please.
Way to bring the fun, silly stuff :) Please do keep it coming!
PS any other betas that will help occupy my kids are warmly welcomed :D
Like Google has or used to have the one day a week for your personal projects, even Nokia should encourage such personal projects by their employees.
They would understand the intricacies of the phones and limitations the best. And i believe they would be making / requesting their friends within Nokia to make apps for their own purposes or for specefic needs. Such projects could be released under "Nokia Experimental Labs". It would be nice to see more of such small / side projects make their way to the labs.
In short, do encourage the employees to code / design applications for their personal purposes / needs.
I think the program page (http://betalabs.nokia.com/betas/view/audio-smileys) should be updated to state clearly that Warning Tones in the current profile need to be set to On for this application to function properly.
@Aitor awww, chill out, man
I think this kind of stuff is great. Sure, it's not something I will use much, if at all, but fun and whimsical (read: stress-relieving) apps are needed just as much as productivity-oriented apps. And although i have not used this app yet, I understand one can change the "smiley tones" to ones of their own choosing, I could see this being really cool with a 5800, allowing one to basically create their own music on the fly. Nine sounds is rather limited, so maybe if a button quickly brought up a second menu of even more sounds, some real fun music could be made.
Cheers to the BetaLabs team!
@ AK Wong,
Thank you for your suggestion, a Note has been added in the Audio Smileys' download page. :-)
I have installed pre2008 and 2008onward versions and both are the same, it will not play any sound ? The app installs fine and I can move around the options and change the image and sound, but I hear no soound :(
IMHO, this application is not very useful. But it's funny.
