Introducing Nokia Magnifier - clarity is just a click away

Greeting from the Nokia Accessibility team,
Thank you for visiting this site to check out Nokia Magnifier. The Nokia Magnifier application utilizes the existing camera functionality on your Nokia S60 phone. It can be used to improve readability in life's every-day situations. Reading the "fine print" has never been easier. Just point and click and life's small details come into focus. Nokia Magnifier utilizes a built in stabilizer to reduce the effects of a shaky hand when getting in close to text or object and negative filter technology which allows users to switch from light to dark backgrounds to improve readability. By using the existing camera technology, users can also snap a picture of the enhanced image for later reference.
While Nokia Magnifier works on N95, N95 8G, N82, E90 it does not work with camera phones that do not have a camera with auto zoom feature.
If you own a compatible device, try the application and tell us what you think.

Why my 5800 xpressMusic says me that its built in my phone and I cant download it?
Why not make it compatible with s60v5? big screen, good camera.?
Does not work on n95 8gb, firmware v.20.0.016.
What is problem?
ok i can see a place for this if it works.
problems so numerous, where to start.
MACRO MODE - my95-2 has a macro mode why is this not activated??
Brightness sensing is bonkers
needs to be fell screen by default
I am visually impaired and use similar types of devices frequently. I installed it on my N82. It works but could use some improvements to the following areas:
1. This is probably a hardware limitation but it needs a way of lighting the material it is trying to magnify. This would improve the clarity (focus) of the image greatly.
2. Stabilization needs a faster refresh rate.
3. If possible a higher level of magnification (zoom) would be appreciated.
That said it is an amazing piece of software for those of us who suffer from visual impairments. I bought my N82 for this exact kind of thing. I use the built in camera to do similar viewing tasks with objects that are at a distance. It's been a great phone.
Tried it on my N78 today. Installed fine and starts up fine, but I get the same 'Get error-1" message when trying to focus.
hi,
Grat application.
Only a trouble: on my e90, for save a photo, i have to click at the option menu and click at the take picture menu option. Two clicks for a photo: is not possible dont move the focus.`plase make a number shortcut to take photo !
Thanks
I tried it on 6210 Navigator. Great application but camera goes to standby too quickly. Can you keep it on while this application is running? I hope cameras with macro mode are coming on S60 devices so there can be greater magnification. As others have stated, the stabilization needs improvement. Please continue to improve on this. It's great for aging eyes..
On my E90 it works OK with case closed to read small print, but the subject view area I can read is a bit restricted, 3 x 3 cm.
Selecting "full screen" very little advatage.
As slus says above the stabisation is not much help.
Tried playing using large E90 inside screen to increase subject in view area.
Does not like i,t even with case open flat.
"lens cover closed" message, but I can see the image but it just will not auto focus.
it works very very good in my N73! this application is fantastic! thank you Beta Labs
I think, the main disadvantage of it is that it does not use flash. N82 can take superb macro pics with Xenon flash. So if used the xenon flash then the pic would become much clear. Pls Beta Labs, could u make it to use the flash?
Starts up un E66 but shows
Hi-
Love the application but have an N95-3 with lens cover message.
I can't wait for the next version.
Fred
hi have everyone a good day early this morning i downloaded the magnifier aplication on my N82 and works very fine its nice and helpful this aplication but i still keep asking to nokia team to develop their own aplication to enlarge the font on the nokia devices cause its too small to my sigth some customers need an aplication in order to see in better way the fonts on devices i recomend something like a theme with large font or a variable font on nokia devices thank you so much and congratulations lets keep developing
Works on 6110 Navigator, but rather pointless with this camera. Must have autofocus and decent lens to make it worthwhile.
n95-3 installed in 8 gb memory card,
When I open the app, I get this message "Lens cover closed". This model has no lens cover.
When I try to focus, I get the same message.
I find this app very usefull. But in my case, I can
oh and the back light needs to stay on.
The same problem of Guillermo
Can we try and improve the n96 support please, another beta i cant use :(
Hi, I am a disabled Nokia S60 Ambassador who loves this app. I have Low Vision and suggest it highly. I wrote a Ambassador report about my experience, which shows some AT and some Tech uses of this app. Thanks for making this. Cheers,Rachaelsmom

Would be nice if it worked with N95-3 NAM. No lens cover but it thinks its closed so won't focus.
not working in my n95 8gb with newest firmware.
What is problem?
I have a N95, but when I run the aplication apear "Lens cover closed! (Mi N95 has
i THINK it works on my 6110 navigator. the apllication loaded and i'm not getting any error messages, but i can't get the focus to work. I assume the "ok" button on my phone is the 4 way navigation button. but while i can zoom in and out clicking on the button appears to be doing nothing

It's OK, it magnifies a little. The problem is that the camera can't go closer than some 20cm from the object, otherwise the picture gets blurry, so it isn't a much of the magnification. Maybe it is a limitation of the camera autofocus itself, is it possible to implement a macro mode?
Stabilization mode is useless on my N95 8GB - what it does is it turns off the live view and reduces the screen refresh speed to something like 1 frame per second. That can't be called "stabilization"...
And it is very difficult to use it without stabilization - it is almost impossible to hold a camera in such a way that the picture doesn't shake all the time.
Overall, it could be quite useful if the stabilization issue is solved.
On my Nokie E71 I get a window "Get error -1" when starting the app and when trying to focus.
When I start the app, and every time I press the OK button to focus, I get the message "lens cover closed".
But my phone doesn't have a lens cover. I thought this might mean that there was too little light so I tried various different distances and positions but it didn't help.
My phone is the N95-3 with the latest firmware.
I get the message error -1 on my E51
if its in my phone, then fhy I cant find it?
This is a very useful application! I tried it on my E90 Communicator, and it crashed once while trying full screen but once I got it running it worked better than expected!
I tried using it to for examining electronics (SMD soldering) and it was much better than my bare eyes. When I have nothing better nearby, I'll definitely pick up my phone.
Nokia Magnifier is the great applications. All works fine. Thx.

Please could you develop a Font changing app for the N9. Some of us older users have trouble seeing some of the font pitch sizes used with the N9, and although I know there are some suggestions on the web as to how to do this, I really don't want to mess with the Meego OS as I am in the US, and have no support from Nokia USA.
Thanks for all your (hard) work!
Patrick
