Introducing Nokia Photo Browser - browse your photos with stunning 3D effects

Written by: Mika Hokkanen, Design Engineer, Nokia Photo Browser team

Hello from Nokia Photo Browser team,

The Nokia Photo Browser is photo browsing application as name suggest. It's designed to be easy to use application, when ever you want quickly browse through your images. User interface is designed to give fast access to all you images. Photo browsing should be fun! That is why Photo Browser introduces new ways to do photo viewing like; "Face browsing" which uses face detection technology to find people faces from pictures and just by finger flick you can browse people faces in image. Other cool feature is "MagGlass" magnifier, which makes image zooming to feel and look more real and analog.

Nokia Photo Browser is still prototype application and it has some limitations. We are developing new features and improving the usability continuously. If you have Nokia S60 5.0 phone with touch screen like Nokia XpressMusic 5800, give us feed back how we can further develop Photo Browser application. If you don't have touch screen device yet, wait for a moment. We will release Photo Browser also for Series 60 3.x products soon.

Download now Nokia Photo Browser now and try it's features and give us feedback!

On behalf of Nokia Photo Browser developers,

- Mika

I tried loading on my 5800, it says expired certificate. How to sort out this problem

hi i tried to install it but always said certificate error
pls help
i love this apps
pls pls pls pls help

Can anyone tell how Image Exchange & Photo Browser are going to coexist?
I see that right now you can not have both on same device. But is it not good if all good things can be combined in one app?

It is cool and kicks the iPhones photo browsers ass!

i like this app a lot!!!

i don't know, if it's possible, but i would like to be able to turn my phone to the right to, when i'm watching my photos. sometimes it's just very comfortable to turn it to all directions...

Amazing software, very nice animations. My only problem is that when I want to see a picture..well...it has terrible quality. Cool browser until you open an image. I hope this issue will be fixed!

amazing application; on my 5800 XM works fine

Very impressive indeed! Makes browsing pics a lot more fun, although real utility is limited (but that hardly matters for the regular Joe, as we have all come to know... ).

1) Its a col and awesome app from Nokia..and its making 5800 owners like us - happy

But it got little bug .....whenever try to change image (in full screen) it lags......

And I'm sure beta labs will fix this issue .....
And I would like to see some options like; image delete option, image edit option and exit option .....

THANKS NOKIA FOR THIS AWESOME APPLICATION.

Nice application... I was expecting something like this and was pleasantly surprised when I found this.

I have subscribed to MyNokia.. Still I get all these updates and new software information from some random websites than Nokia itself. I hope you send a newsletter informing customers of enhancements and new application on the phone. Right now just double tap makes it zoom.. I would like functionality to further zoom inside it

I love the aplication. But for most ppl with big galeries the "see all pictures at once" is inapropriate.
We need:

- browsing by folders
- an UI
- thumbnail generation by user choice (OFF/LowRes/Normal)
- doubleclick zoom(1x/2x/Normal) - in options

Great application, I love it.
I tried it on my nokia 5800 and it works fine, I hope you can still improve it a little, I think that if you develop the 3D graphics speed and face recognition some more, this application will be a masterpiece,

I must agree with reply no 62, some extra options like editing and so on would be nice, so as the image scroller speed and smoothness that isn't perfect yet.

I would love to see all this in the full version, I hope you can pull it off.

Keep up with the great job, you're the best.

i got n96 and have aprox 600 pics its not loads the pictures its too too slow!

Very beautiful gallery browser.
I hope this application will replace default gallery browsing in 5th edition.
It's only a little bit slow to load thumbnails and there isn't possibility to set anything such the size and the quality of thumbnails or the browsing folder. And a virtual button for exit the application ( not red standard button.)
But for a beta is very beautiful.

On se hieno!

Gotta say, lovin it so far. I wish Nokia would incorporate stuff like this into the standard default S60 gallery.

sorry, the application is not for 5800. there is any way to install because showing this error: expired certificate. I am wonder how nokia don't know about the phone it has produced.

WOWWOW... that's cooool really. Little slow loading thinbs from hundreds pic but very well done. Do not change red button to exit, keep it full screen. I have the pics in 12 different folder ( virtual one created on my 5800) I can't see them with this browser. could be cool to could choice if to see all the images or by folder.
GOOD JOB

very cool program! Nokia you are doing good with nokia 5800 and all the apps&software. your updates are also good on time and they are full with evereything you need

Betalabs rocks !!! great to see such product though I dont have 5th edition device as yet . :-)

Kudos to the team, for creating a simply beautiful application and getting it out!

Is it just me or is that picture wall very.... ermm.. Cooliris?

http://www.cooliris.com/

Way to go.

It is really nice, unless you have more than thousand photos on your phone and make this app hours to load. rotation is pretty kewl, rather than blanking out it shows animation of picture rotating. I wish to have such animation in phone native screen rotations. face detection, zoom lens are also cool. If there is some folder or categorization feature people like me, who have huge photo galleries will become happier.

Ordered my 5800 on Saturday, this will be one of the first apps I load onto it. Looks great!

I try this app my 5800 working very well.but i think maybe some features add to seeing photos and need refresh new images button.

cool...... same problem with the exiting..... i think the only way to exit is to press the menu button to close this app... and some of my wallpapers need quite a long time for loading to view.... hope there is improvement for it soon... btw.. i love my 5800

it's so cool? I Translate It in Chinese?

This application is fantastic. But it's slow when it's loading the images ... :)

cool app ... but lil slow when loading thumbnails ... also how do i exit this app? i don't see any exit button. any comments?

it's so cool....just it takes some time to load the photos...
just one suggestion...maybe can incorporate zooming with two fingers..just like iphone...ehehhe..this will be really a plus...
definitely can replace the original photo browser..
5800 xm...the best phone i've ever had.. :)

i tried it on my nokia 5800.
very nice application, the only limit is that the image preview is very slow...
btw well done nokia!!!

Aaaah - the king is dead! Long live the New King!!! Guys, I am with all four hands up for a new imaging gallery for the S60. It was high time ;) Now I am eagerly waiting for the 3rd edition to try it, though ;-P

once final, please include it in the following firmware update as the default photobrowser. this application OWNS. while sometimes generating the full size picture takes a bit of time.

its a too cool app... hope fully it will come by default in the next fw update.. and yes it needs n exit button ... other then the hard exit by pressing red button..

its Cool, . It work Ok

Y cuando para los S60v3? Tengo un N73 y estoy arto del visor que trae, no se puede navegar por las fotos a causa de como las ordena (mezcla todo, es horrible!!!) y tambien porque se queda sin memoria...xD...

N95 version please! :D
looks great

I love reading your blog. You seem like a natural in sharing your experiences. I am starting my blog as well, do you think only natural writers can have something to share?

Wow. this is great. viewing your photos keeps getting better and better

Nice application but too slow on my E71 for normal usage...Image sharpening takes long seconds. Some image formats aren't supported and instead of grey thumbnails it would be better if those images wouldn't be displayed at all.

very beautiful gallery browser

great application. i hope Nokia would incorporate this to thier existing photo browser and i wish they could do it SOONER. probably another update for the 5800 XM? ver. 21, anyone?

i forgot to add, incorporating the videos and an option to create albums would be VERY, VERY nice too. NOKIA plEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE make it happen now.

Cool alternative. Although the app is a bit too slow in loading the images. Scrolling one by one isn't as smooth as the default Image Viewer(which although doesn't look as cool still nicer in terms of smoothness and speed). Dunno, too much animation and effects? The default one was simple and effective. Rotation thing is nice!

Image options would be nice, like delete, edit and so on, but this is a beta so I'm sure it'll be in there in the full version.

Hey this app is a BIG step forward to image viewing on Nokia phones. Well the app works just OK on my X6. Ummm.. Here are the issues i encountered:-

1) The overall interface is a little sluggish and lacks refinement.
2) Not all the images on my phone were present in the UI. Only some images were detected.
3) On long press on the thumbnail view the dropdown menu opens ONLY in landscape view not portrait.
4) Having a close button on the UI rather than the red button would be great.

Well i am sure that with the expertise the engineers at Nokia have, they are going to find a fix for the above flaws. By the great work guys. Looking forward to more improvements.

I try this app my 5800 working very well.but i think maybe some features add to seeing photos and need refresh new images button.
Office application

Hey off late I just used it on my E71.
Couple of new and old observations:
1) Responsiveness and smoothness in transitions are AWESOME now. No more lags, unlike my last try on my X6.
2) The close button is still missing in the Photo Browser though it is there in the Image Exchange.
3) I guess I found the reason why not all the images were getting displayed. I usually save the images in a folder named "Pictures" created by me in the memory card. But there are also images saved in a default folder in the memory card named as "Images", that saves images taken by the camera . So both these apps load the images from ONLY the folder named "Images" and not from any custom made folders by the users. I feel there should be an option to allow the users to select the folder where they have saved their images.
