Introducing Nokia Point & Find: major update to how you access content on the go

Written by: Sophie-Charlotte Moatti, Head of Product Management, Nokia Point & Find

Greetings everyone,

I’m really excited to debut Nokia Point & Find on Beta Labs today! We’ve been in stealth mode for a while and it’s time we lift the curtain a bit and get feedback from a community we trust: Beta Labs.

With Nokia Point & Find you discover useful and contextually relevant information and services by simply pointing your camera phone at objects. It easy, it’s fun and YES, it works!

The unique thing about Nokia Point & Find is that you can point at real things from the real life, i.e. not at physical tags, and get information in real-time, i.e. not after 10, or 5 or even 3 seconds. For now, Nokia Point & Find is available as an experiment on select objects like movie posters and barcodes. The service runs on select S60 devices and only in the UK and in the US… More will come!

Download the service at pointandfind.nokia.com, and try it out. For instance, point your camera phone at a movie poster on the street to read reviews, glance at ratings, lookup show times, and even find the closest theatre and purchase tickets in the UK if your phone has a built-in GPS.

You can also scan barcodes of your favorite products in a store to get more detailed product information. If you don’t like pointing, or if typing on a mobile keyboard works better for you, you can always use text entry to search the directory.

And soon, you’ll be able to access custom experiences created by your favorite brands, or even to create your own experience by going to pointandfind.nokia.com/?login.

To give us feedback, go to betalabs.nokia.com/pointandfind and tell us about your experience:

Thank you!

I'm getting an error on the forums saying I must verify my email address to post, yet there is no way of resending an email as I have done this before. Also I had to create a new account for the point and find site only to find that to create a new world will cost me per month. This information should be provided beforehand.

And, once again, the "flagship" N96 isn't supported.

This seems a great app.
Please make it available in THE NETHERLANDS soon (and include bar-code scanning for my N81)

Hi all and thank you for

Hi all and thank you for your great comments!

We are working on the N96 version of P&F at the moment and it will be released later this year along with a lot of other ports on S60 and also S40 devices.

Re: other countries, we are using the UK and the US as a pilot markets and will rolling out to the rest of the world after we have a chance to learn a bit from the beta period and polish our service. I cannot tell you at this point which country will be next, but we will make announcements on this forum as we clarify this.

And then, @Viran: I'm really sorry that we made you create yet another account... Integration with Nokia Account is on our roadmap. You are right that we need to do a better job communicating and setting expectations on the management portal. In the next few days, we will be posting a 3min product intro video on the sign-in page, that will explain how to create custom experiences in P&F and mention that this requires a subscription. Please let me know any other feedback/suggestion.

Regards,
SC
P&F team
