did it via mobile. Worked very well!
A though call, and to early in my opinion. I really like the approach of the new ovi suite, but it is definitely not ready for prime time. For instance, I still can't sync music to my N97 properly and it crashes about every third time I try to connect.
My father uses an N82, and I would like to recommend it to him, but as a non-tech person he would be very annoyed by all the shut downs and the still existing glitches. Once they are repaired, I will happily start recommending it ;)
I've found Ovi Suite to be a nebulous thing I can't quite see the bounds of. As far as I can tell, its a comprehensive single source through which to do everything. That is exactly what I don't want. If I'm misunderstanding Ovi Suite, then I would appreciate a better explanation. If I'm not, then I'd rather see focus on tools rather than suites.
I think recommendation will depend on the person.
Most of my friends/colleagues are not so techie/geek, hence I won't recommend this Beta release.
It still has some bugs, performance is poor and lacks some essential features.
But I will suggest this to my brother, cousin who as as techie as I am, I like interface, concept.
I hope more beta testers can help make OVI suite much better product when it graduates finally.

After it is able to sync contacts and calender without error on my n97
When first installing Ovi Suite I was actually surprised about a smooth installation process (no error messages, interruption or whatsoever). After the initial click-around I was even stunned by the sleek-looking UI (compared to good ol' PC Suite). The responsiveness was also quite decent.
...buuuut after thoroughly using it (with N97 & E71) I face/d various issues such as update checks produce error messages eg 'Ovi Suite is currently busy with other process'. Thus I needed to go back to Nokia Software Updater for installing latest firmaware v12 to the N97 today. Also syncing contacts never really worked for me. My mobile is synced via MfE so I guessed of syncing with Ovi Suite (sync in both ways) should copy all phone contacts to Ovi Suite, was just wrong. Actually I lost all phone contacts...well not a big issue as a resync with MfE got them back, but it still annoys that I cannot copy them to Ovi.
I think you guys are on the right way but I'd say that Ovi Suite still needs a lot of improvements to satisfy the average user for backing up, exchanging data or implementing firmware updates. As a power user I rather get disappointed with it...keep on developing guys ;)
what you are doing is still a dog's breakfast. Sorry, I like my Nokia, but someone senior at Nokia needs to get this entire stuff under control, get resources onto sorting out Nokia's software mess, and straighten things out. Everything is leaking, buggy, and only thought through 90%. Nice while it works, but a mess for the last 10%.
i'm used to fighting my pc cause i do a lot of beta testing but most of my friends dont so i would not recomend it to them yet.
When you get key ellements in place i will though
- working sync of calendar, contacts, and notes
- also syncs ovi web
- better photo sync and support for nokia music
- sync of video and audio recordings
- sync of placemarks
- better sync of bookmarks and feeds (incl. Podcast and video feeds)

I never used this program, but I think it will be very useful to synchronize my data.
