Videos

Hi Guys,

Great work with 2.0 so far. Feels a lot slicker with the whole unified interface. Are there any plans video syncronisation? I've not updated to the latest 2 beta release so if it's been added since, my apologies.

STILL Desperately neets the System Tray Menu

I just want to connect my phone to my PC why does the complete desktop app have to open. Why can't we have the option to have the simple System Tray menu provided by PC Suite. All wwe get still is Open OVI Suite or Exit. This still feels like a backward step for me.

I think not :-)

Not again - this time I will not install the beta for a third time.
It sounds on the very brief "release notes" that no features at all, but bugfixes of existing limited functionality.
So this app. is still only contains 50% functionality of that of PC-suite.

My greatest wish - Say you are not close to a release, and you will keep this to yourselves untill it at least has the functionality of Pc-Suite

DO NOT release this software, it is NOT ready!

Seriously, I mean it. This is not a release candidate. This is not even a beta. This is ALPHA software.

Look, I really do appreciate your efforts, and in time this could become one of the slickets and nicest mobile phone management softwares around, but that's not what it is today. Today, it is a gimped, bloated, leaky and buggy heap of random software features stacked on top of each other. The functionality that IS included (which is far from all of it) barely works, and even if I manage to wade through all the bugs and crashes, I'm still left unable to do the most basic of things, like edit the metadata of a song or move text messages to my computer.

I guess maybe I've been spoiled with Sony Ericsson software before, and the excellent MyPhoneExplorer software available for all SE phones, but come on. A single person working on his spare time did a better and more solid program for SE phones than the entire team at Nokia.

I know you're trying hard, and I know you want to get this out to people as soon as possible, but trust me: IT'S NOT READY. It's far from it. It needs MORE development and MORE testing. Make sure it's somewhat usable before you label it a "beta". Make sure it actually HAS functionality before you attempt to release it.

Ok, rant complete. Thank you.

Better now, not ready yet!

Hi Guys! It is better then before, fast, use less RAM memory, but lacks calendar view and still left almost 500 MB in installation files on "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\OviInstallerCache"
Congratulations for your effort.

Still no calendar view... not ready yet...

First of all thanks to saylinen for the answer in the last OVI update.
Second, I install this new update and sync contacts, calendar and notes with Microsoft Outlook 2007 and work good for me. The OVI Suite aparently is more stable.
And third, I'm still missing the Calendar View.

Please, keep working on this way and then you can release...

Agree with Endemoniada: DO NOT RELEASE !

Hi there,

I completely agree with Endemoniada. This software is not prepared for being released to the public. It´s not even Beta. Please don´t confuse people releasing a not-completed software. Keep working for some months and when all functionality is completed and well-tested, then start thinking on releasing as a real beta.

I´m hoping to have a really complete Nokia Ovi Suite, because I´m sure it will be one of the best softwares on its kind... but it´s not so mature right now. So be patient and keep up working hard.

Best regards !

not happy about it

I read that Ovi suite was approaching its final release, so I wanted to give it a try as well. However, I was not pleased at all with this version and considered far from ready!

The installation was very slow and finalizing the installation with the logging in into my account was not working. After terminating the installation I was able to start the suite, but again the 'first run' procedure was unable to connect to my account and got the application stucked. After several tries I decide to opt for 'no ovi account' in order to proceed.

Once running the suite was slow, with apparently a lot of processes running simultaneously. This resulted in the notification that 'a process could not be completed because another process was still running' in many occasions.

In the end I decided to disable all automatic sync, etc and to only use this suite for editing and manually syncing my contact details...

Next to this disappointing performace and first try of the new suite, I think still an important new feature is missing: Nokia is trying hard to pack everything together in a single application or in a single website, but then only photo's can be synced between this application and the site.

If you want to have everything in one place, why then not automatically sync e.g. your contact changes to the website as soons as you update your phone? Why do we still have to edit the contact details on our PC, sync them to our device and then use our device to update the ovi site?

very much alpha and not beta still

i must say this is very much an alpha still and not a beta like some already have mentioned.
one thing i have found extremly annoing is that if you run dual screen and is watching whatever and tries to sync or do anything with ovi suite you first have to wait for almost an hour before it stops saying it's busy doing something else. it tells you to stop the other action before trying to sync contacts or check for updates but it's lovely that it dun tell what the hell it's doing in the first place since i haven't started anything.
so plc stop calling this a beta because it's not.
but just by looking on the way it looks today it can be a great app so keep up the work.

Music

Can you say what happens, when i add directory or files to the collection in Ovi Suite? Because i've whole bunch of music on my computer, it takes almost up to 1 minute when Winamp indexes files and adds them to playlist.

Now i did same with Ovi Suite Music and it has been working for one hour already and maybe 65% is done now. Does it create new "mobile friendly" files or something? Or why it for gods sake takes so long to complete?

Some fixes but still some issues present

Some things have been fixed from last version, but some things still remain...

1. I noted a huge improvement in memory issue, but still consumes too much. I still think that the sync tray manager app should be a smaller separate part, and should not load this whole bunch into memory just to sync the phone.

2. The freezing on connection has been reduced a lot.

3. The main windows still pops up each time it connects to the phone, which is really annoying, specially if you are running a full screen app. I think this is a must and should be fixed before a new release.

4. The ocassional crash is gone, at least for now.

Thanks a lot for this App

Keep up with the good Job!!

yey, it's working. You fixed

yey, it's working. You fixed the sync problem with my pictures, suite is faster and support services installed fast. Good job!

What I would like to see next is thunderbird calendar sync, integrating with facebook, functions from Communications Center 2.0 like calling from PC.. better picture management.. But this released showed that Ovi Suite is on the way to be the best. Now just optimize more and add more functions and it will be good!

Nokia wtf are you thinking?

ARMAND =) enjoy the life!

Syncing to web

Must say great effort in a nutshell ... however, if i give it a deep look few basic stuff is missing which i completly dont understand.

A> why do we need to sync our devices separately with the suite and with the web? can we have a click through from OVI suite to have all the primary data like contacts & calendars sync[backup] with our OVI web account without connecting our devices the the suite [assumingly the device and suite has been synced ]

B> its again a suggestion, even if you guys have thought to remove the calendar view, at least you should kept a call out menu from outlook for the upcoming appointments and tasks

i am really looking forward to see these thing ...yet again good work

regards,
me

Photos sync now, but...

OK, photo sync works as expected, but still no video sync. Overall the product gets a big yawn... it's nice to have a single app, but Ovi Suite doesn't include half the functionality of the PC Suite+PC Suite for nSeries.

PLAYLISTS (again)

Totally agree.. please please please don't release it yet... Kept using it for 3 days now and its still a bit slow... sluggish really...

about the "music" part of OVI, i cant even view some songs inside my playlist which i used my phone to create... i cant understand this... why is it like that? does making a playlist from the phone create a different playlist format?

EXAMPLE: I create playlist "A" using the OVI suite. The playlist has 5 songs in it. once i disconnect my phone and im on the go, i decide to put 2 new songs into the playlist (using my phone). Once I get home and connect it to OVI suite, the 2 new songs DO NOT APPEAR in the playlist "A" instead i still see the first 5 old songs which i originally placed. Why cant the OVI suite detect the 2 new songs which i placed?

Is it really suppose to behave like that?

Hope to hear any comments from you... Thanks!

Sill nothing for linux user...

I like Nokia and Ovi services. I hate Windows. I love Linux.

I see that Nokia just dont care about Linux Users. I see that Ovi map dont like my Ubuntu. I see that an android have Win, Mac and LINUX support.

Do Maemo and N900 will change something ?

Because there is not Linux support i broke my N95 when i tried made an update with an emulation of Windows on VirtualBox...that made me begin hate Nokia.

Since Nokia dont care about me and other Linux User, why i will care about Nokia for my next mobile phone ?

Onspeed compatability + Importing from Microsoft Outlook?

The software is not compatible with software such as Onspeed. I have to disconnect from Onpseed to get Ovi to log in to my account. This is very annoying.

Secondly there needs to be an option to import contact directly from Outlook. On the current beat release there does not seem to be away of doing this.

Some problems detected

I'm having problems updating software with this new version... every time I try to check maps data or update the maps application, I get a could not connect to internet error. This is very anoying, because I am connected to the internet and it's not letting me update anything on the phone. I'm worried about what might happen when a new firmware comes out, since it should be updated through this app.

Same issue with Internet connectivity

@thejohnny, I have reported this Internet connectivity error but i dont think they have fixed it.
It's very annoying to see that message when you know that your already connected to Internet.
I got that message with OVI share login, Maps update or Software Update.

I guess it has something to do with the way Firewall works, but anyways OVI suite should configure firewall by asking you while installation. Isn't it?
