Ovi Mail updated - introducing Ovi Mail Setup app for S60
Wed, 2009-09-30 08:51Written by David Dueblin, Product Manager, Ovi Mail
Many of you have asked for S60 setup support for Ovi Mail and we’re happy to introduce it today. We just made the “Ovi Mail Setup” application available in Beta Labs for a wide range of S60 devices (see Download and Installation for supported devices).
What it is
This application allows you to sign-up for an Ovi Mail account directly from your S60 device. Or if you already have an Ovi account it will provision Ovi Mail and configure the email client on the device. And it installs a handy icon in the Installations folder for easy access to Ovi Mail.
What it isn’t
This is not an email client. You will continue using the existing email client on your device. If you’re already successfully using Ovi Mail on your device you don’t need to install this.
Webmail
We have also silently launched an update to our webmail interface. We have simplified the navigation on the left and made it more consistent from page to page. And we’re trying to keep up with the global expansion of Ovi Mail and have added 4 additional languages: Thai, Simplified Chinese, Russian and Finnish. Go to https://mail.ovi.com to see these changes.
We’re looking forward to your feedback on “Ovi Mail Setup”.
- Dave

I see that 6120 classic isn't supported by this app, what is the problem with supporting this device?
So how does this interact with Nokia Messaging? If I install Nokia Messaging to my N97, will this application then setup Ovi Mail in my Nokia Messaging, or will it still use the default email client?
serzholino, you can use Ovi Mail on your Nokia 6120 classic. However the setup application is not supported as the 6120 runs an older platform version.
Here is how you can start using it:
1) Go to https://mail.ovi.com and sign up for an account (or sign in with your existing account)
2) Go to your device email client and enter your email address and password. The IMAP server settings should be recognized automatically.
Let me know if you run into issues.
rcadden, Ovi Mail works great with Nokia Messaging. I use it every day on my E71.
The Nokia Messaging setup is so easy that you don't need the Ovi Mail setup wizard. Sign into https://mail.ovi.com to confirm that you have an email account and then just type your email address and password into Nokia Messaging. All the server settings are discovered automatically.
where do I get contact icon and fils ovi icon?
@dave.dueblin Sorry for late response.
Just tried to add my @ovi.com account into phone's mail client. First, it asked what type of mailbox it is, IMAP4 or POP3, i choose IMAP4. Then it asked my email addres and after that, it asked to enter name of sending server, pre-filler with ".ovi.com" string. I entered smtp.ovi.com. Then wizard exited.
When i tried to get my mail it asked username and password, then tried toi connect for about a minute and failed. I looked at settings and saw that incoming server is set to "ovi.com". Is this correct? I haven't tried to send letters jet.
@serzholino - We've simplified email account setup significantly since the 6120c. Here are the settings:
Incoming Mail Server: imap.mail.ovi.com 993 (SSL)
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.mail.ovi.com 465 (SSL)

Who ever tried? Useful applications?
I've tried this. I think it's full of bugs. On audio converters there is no bugs!
