Updated Nokia Point & Find: Real-time mobile discovery now available globally on most S60 devices

Hello all,
It has been a little while since my last post. Our team has been busy over the past few months incorporating your feedback, and preparing a brand new UI for the Nokia touch devices. I had also hinted that more people around the world would be able to download and use P&F, read on to learn more. We look forward to hearing from all of you now.
Let’s start with improvements to the user experience. We’ve fixed short of 100 bugs in network connectivity and overall stability of the client on some of our best-selling devices: N82, N95 8GB, N95, E71, E66, N81, N81 8GB, E51, 6220, 6210 Navigator, N97. Our hope is that the client will look more snappy and mature to you than its previous release, although some fixes had to be postponed. In particular: 1D barcode recognition in the shopping experience isn’t as reliable as we’d like it to be, especially on 3.1 devices; and start-up time on the 6220, 6210 Navigator is sluggish. Our R&D team is working on those issues now.
We’ve also released a client for the N97 with a brand new UI that takes advantage of the device’s touch capabilities and large screen res (see a screenshot below). Give it a try and tell us what you think. It will soon be ported to other devices of the S60 5.0 family.

Last but not least, you can download our client from anywhere in the world at pointandfind.nokia.com. We’ve re-designed the site to give P&F a more mature identity (what can I say, we’re growing up…) There are a couple of use cases you can play with no matter where you are: a City Guide, in which you point your camera at a place you like, give it a name or type a brief comment, then press ‘tag’. Others may see your tag next time they point at this place. The 2D Barcode experience connects you instantly to information that’s embedded in the code, be it a URL, a contact (vcard), etc. Try it on this one:
Our team is eager to hear your feedback on this new release. Please continue to use this forum to tell us:
- How our quality push is affecting your experience,
- What you think of our new N97 client,
- How you like tagging in the city guide, to share your memories or leave notes for your friends around the world,
- Anything else that can help make P&F more useful to you.
Coming next are some new features that will make it easier to create and publish your own experiences. Stay tuned…
Cheers,
Sophie-Charlotte Moatti and the P&F team

Do all services will work in "other countries"? I am in India.

How is service coverage here in Finland?
Hi all,
The 2 use cases that are available around the world are the City Guide and the 2D barcodes.
In the City Guide, you can see how extensive the coverage is by checking the 'tag meter' indicator at the top of the screen. If it's full, then you can point at content around you. If not, then why not create your own content? To do so, point your phone at a place, give it a name, and then press 'tag'.
For 2D barcodes, we support all the main standards, including QR and Datamatrix.
We look forward to hear your feedback.
Cheers,
SC

I have never get this app to work neither on my old N95 and N95 8GB nor on my new N97. I live in Oklahoma, USA. I've tried this app by connecting it using wifi and EDGE internet but it has never given me any info for things which i have pointed at. I've tried pointing it to movie posters, many many 2D barcodes even the one posted above but I didn't get any result !!
I also haven't been able to get this to work. Unless you live in a big city forget it
I always wondered whether there is any plan to integrate this with OVI? OVI maps good things may be?
Suyog
Hi suyog and everyone,
We are working very closely with our Ovi colleagues from Maps, Music, and other offerings to offer integrated experiences, but at this point, P&F is still in beta and therefore not a part of the Ovi portfolio. I hope to share more news on this forum in the near future about closer integration with the Ovi offering...
Thanks for your feedback and please keep telling us how we can continue to improve P&F!

Hi farisallil, sorry to hear that you did not have a good experience using P&F. Maybe we can help you... Could you please share your device tech specs, so we can try to reproduce the situation?
We at P&F really benefit from feedback like yours to improve our client...

Hi fldude99,
No matter where you live, you can try pointing at places around you from the City Guide. If there is no content nearby, a 'tag meter' on the upper right corner will let you know that no one has contributed content in the area yet. Maybe you could be the first one? :) To contribute content, all you need to do is point at a place or a landmark, type a brief comment, and then press tag. Then you or your friends may see your comment.
I hope you will want to give it a try...
