Hello Beta Labs,
It's been a while since we made updates to the Ovi Contacts client, so it is about time to share some of the progress again. Today we have an update for the Ovi Contacts client for S60 5th Ed and 3rd Ed FP2 devices.
The updated client contains some new features like: file transfer and improved compression. File transfer obviously is a nice feature if you need to quickly beam up your newly taken photo to your friend and you don't want to be restricted by the size of the photo (as in, you can transfer bigger files than before). And our new compression will save you a bit of costs in terms of battery consumption and data consumption. We've measured the data consumption to be about 60% less of what it was with the previous version.
We've also made some progress on the user experience improvements requested. You'll notice that in the Contacts tab, there are now three quick buttons to see a friend's profile (or your own), start a chat, and add friends.
To make the new version easy to access from Beta Labs, we've put aside the old Ovi Contacts client versions from the Beta Labs site and left only the new release for you to download. You can still access the old client that is available for more devices by browsing with your mobile to http://contacts.ovi.com/dist/app.
Please do try it out and continue to give feedback.
For the great participation for our request for three next features, we'd like to share our appreciation for getting these by awarding some of the contributors with a t-shirt. As you notice, the file transfer feature available in this update was in the list of desired features of the following persons: Jamaal , vitalianogiannangeli, zazu90 and grael25. Please ping us with your address details and requested t-shirt size, we can have the right t-shirt delivered to you.
We sincerely hope you'll find these small improvements a tiny step forward.
