Hello,
Warm up your Twitter fingers, the latest Nokia Messaging* for social networks beta has now added support for Twitter, making tweeting even more convenient from the homescreen of your Nokia handset.
Back in September 2009, we introduced the first iteration of the social networking beta that let people view, post, and comment on messages, share their location and status while keeping up with their Facebook friends right from their Nokia handsets. This was only the start. The majority of the feedback given by beta testers was to add support for other social networking communities (Twitter, done! More to come!) Testers also asked for enhancements to the Facebook functionality. We took your advice and have added these new features:
- Upload pictures and videos
- Events: View upcoming events, birthdays and import to device calendar
- Search friends
- Click-to-call / click-to-SMS / click-to-FB Email
We invite you to download and test drive this social networking client from Nokia Beta Labs. This is an early preview, currently available on Nokia N97, Nokia N97 Mini, and Nokia 5800 devices, we will support more devices in the future. We also invite you to visit http://messaging.nokia.com to see what’s available for your device from Nokia Messaging.

Sorry to be a spoilsport here, but why is this being developed when Gravity is available and does an AMAZING job on Twitter and Facebook integration? The Nokia Messaging app took multiple attempts to even connect to Twitter, and repeatedly asks me which connection to use. Uninstalling...
Well, it works as expected, it's really good to start doing the things your customers want, but, why make it a web based aplication? It looks like a widset, that's not the way to go, it should be a native Symbian app that collects data from the server and store it on your phone, the way that Gravity is doing.
This looks like something made very fast just to shut up consumers mouth about the complains that Nokia isn't doing a thing for the social networking. Sure, it works, but totally web based instead of an actual program.
So please beta labs staff, go to the right way with this one, try a little harder even if you have to put a price on this, but make it the right way, and don't let it die like the most part of your beta programs, this is what's killing Symbian, the always beta stage on the best (incomplete) software and even initial firmwares loaded with every new phone.
but this doesn't work at all on my 5800. It freezes, it asks for a connection a thousand times, and with Gravity as comepetition it has to be a lot better than that. Strange, but the apps from Nokia are often not half as good as many third-party apps like Gravity or Nimbuzz. Sad but true, I wish it were the other way around.
