Nokia Image Exchange touch early beta

Written by Janne Kaasalainen, Nokia Image Exchange

Due to popular demand, we're releasing an early beta version of the Nokia Image Exchange mobile client for S60 touch devices. At the moment, this version has limited functionality and is still in need of UI polishing, but we wanted to get it in your hands for early testing.  As usual, let us know about bugs, suggestions, and reviews in the forum.

In this early beta we are also including an option to upload images to Facebook. Feature is found from Send options, but only available if image has been uploaded and published as Facebook requires access to it. We hope to improve the usability of this feature later on as well as to include it to non-touch version. For now, this only works for you own images.

Above you can see a quick tour of the new UI. As mentioned, some features are not supported via the touch client. Most notably these include grid views via main menu, time based views and zooming in general. There is also no accelerometer support in this version of the touch UI client.

Nokia Image Exchange for S60 touch is available for downloading at imageexchange.nokia.com. The touch version has been tested on Nokia 5530, 5800 Xpress Music, N97 and X6.

Nokia Image Exchange is also available for other devices (S60 non-touch, S40) via Ovi Store. These versions are more mature and as of now offer more features.

Its great to see this coming to the N97 after a long time, well done all.

A couple of issues found so far.

Nowhere to sign into previous account
Each time launched, it sends a text message.

Installing right now on my N97.

For those interested in space Nokia Image exchange installs two packages "Nokia Image Exchange" which is 947kB which can be installed to either the C: or the E: drive and Nokia Image Space Capture Beta which is 502kb and is installed to the same drive location as "Nokia Image Exchange".

Good News both can be installed to the E: drive. Makes a nice change.

Set-up was quick and easy and now I am connected to mbrett at http://imageexchange.nokia.com.

Lovin' it. Checked and it's linked me to my existing Image Exchange account set-up on my old N95 8GB. Excellent. I assume this is as a result of my number being the same.

LOVE the GUI.

BIG TWO THUMBS UP from me.

Mickyfin: If you haven't changed your phone number, you don't need to do anything to connect to the old account. It seems that for some reason your registration is failing (as it asks to send more SMS's) which is likely to cause your issues. You could try to keep Nokia Image Exchange running till the registration goes through. If you have further issues with registration, please contact us via imex-team@nokia.com so we can troubleshoot your situation better.

If you have changed your phone number, we must apologize, there is no support for account transfering yet. We know this is an issue, but so far have been concentrating on other matters.

One more thing: Happy New Year from IMEX team.

@mbrett: The registration process in the application is a novel approach that keeps the same account with you as long as you don't change your phone number. Just pluck your SIM card to a new phone and your old account is configured for you. It also allows you to see your friends (that are in your contacts) published images without any friend invitation hassles. There are many other benefits as well. Unfortunately, as Janne mentioned, we haven't had time to cover all the cases of changing phone numbers etc. yet.

Thanks, i will try again, number is the same, so will leave connected a little while longer this time, and let you know if it works ok.

Seem to be able to go online, but it says im offline. tried to disconnect, but in doing so, N97 V20 froze, and had to switch off.

Just to let you know, its now working fine, rebooted, and launched again, this time I got an sms confirmation set up was complete, and its now currently uploading my photos.

Excellent.! many thanks.!

I think I speak for everyone when I say that *this* process, however it works, needs to be implemented in EVERY Nokia/Ovi service. Ovi Maps does something similar, and it's freakin brilliant.

can you please check again if movistar in chile is supported? was expecting this update since I bought my 5800 but now it's still not working :S

Guys , have you started supported Aircel-India? I had posted this in forum long time back.

While we have tried to expand our operator support, we do have some that are still not supported. Please see operator list on the right hand side column pop up for specific operators:

http://imageexchange.nokia.com/download.jsp

The reason is unfortunately that with some operators we don't get the needed registration SMS and thus the registration fails. We are constantly trying to improve the situation.

how do you figure out an operator is supported? I'd be OK to send 1 international SMS to check if movistar chile is supported :)

@speedgrapher: The operator support list works in a following way; we have a set of operators that should work. However, there may be others that also work and some of the supported may have issues. Thus, the list on our site shows which operators should have support and shows them as (unconfirmed). When users from that operator sign to our service, the status of that operator is changed to (confirmed).

There are, however, quite a bit of complexities with worldwide support. To maximize the chances, please be patient and keep Nokia Image Exchange running while the registration is in progress. SMS's are not always delivered instantly. As said, we are constantly trying to improve the situation.
