Nokia Ovi Suite 2.1 Beta open for all

Written by Samuli Ylinen from Nokia Ovi Suite team

Hi all, now it’s time to expand Nokia Ovi Suite 2.1 Beta testing. As some of you might know, Nokia Ovi Suite 2.1 Beta has been under "Beta by invitation" testing for some time, getting input and feedback from our users. We have fixed many errors based on feedback, and now we have reached the maturity level where we can start the public Beta with more users.

You can download Nokia Ovi Suite 2.1 Beta (sign in to access) and check the overview as well as “known issues” and FAQ for more information.

As you can see from screenshot, we’ve included way to send feedback directly from Nokia Ovi Suite for us. We will be asking questions and surveys through Nokia Ovi Suite from time to time, so we’re hoping to hear feedback from you often. So don't be suprised, if you see these questions coming out.

We’ve worked with many different things for Nokia Ovi Suite 2.1, but I try to summarize here biggest new items:

  • support for syncing contacts with ovi.com, so now you can easily keep your contacts safe in ovi.com
  • support for syncing videos from device to Nokia Ovi Suite, video playback and transferring videos from Nokia Ovi Suite to device
  • updating device applications and distributing new device applications  (same feature as in devices “Software update” application)
  • Windows 7 support
  • support for syncing contacts with Mozilla Thunderbird
  • new languages (Hindi, American English and Ukrainian)
  • extended device support
  • performance improvements
  • improving overall product quality and stability, for example in sync

Lots of new features are obviously based on feedback for previous Nokia Ovi Suite release. I know that there’s huge list of new features, which you’re interested and  we’ve huge amount things ongoing and try to release new stuff for you guys every two-three months.  For those that have asked about Nokia Ovi Suite for Mac, I can say that we're working on it and Nokia Beta Labs folks will be the first ones to try it.

Cheers,
Samuli and rest of Nokia Ovi Suite team

@markow76: I get the following error after signing in and visiting your link:

"403: You are not authorized to access this page."

Help!

UPDATE: I have to "sign in" multiple times.

On the main Ovi Suite page I must sign in. Then on the "403" page I have to "sign in" again. Then I get a link to the EXE.

Seems to me like betalabs.nokia.com is doing something not quite correct with Cookies.

What should I do to connect my 5800 XpressMusic via USB?

My Windows XP Pro 2002 SP3 displays broken drivers after plugging in the 5800 and after the USB drivers install: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" is displayed along with (!) exclamation point icons for the "Generic", and the two "OBEX" devices in My Computer > Control Panels > Computer Management > Device Manager > Wireless Communication Devices. I have a friend with Windows 7 and it works great there ... but what should I do to connect the 5800 to my PC? Any idea?

Great to see finally Beta coming to "open" status. Now I can write , discuss and tell whole world about it :) I was also part of closed Beta.
Things look really improved and I would like to see calendar view and sync with ovi.com soon.

I have OVI Suite. Could that be the reason I cannot install P.C. Suite? It keeps telling me there is a later version.

ncr100, same problem here... coockies don't seem to work fine on this site ;)

ovi team, i just bought a e72 and download ovi maps from nokia website. when i hit my position i am shown about 1730 kms away from my actual location. any idea why?

@fxstsb Yes that is the reasson you can`t install, OVI suite has all the features of PC Suite and even more, built in. You will need to uninstall it first.

@gauravc30, you can check settings->positioning which methods are being used then also check if proper access point is defined for A-GPS and server name is supl.nokia.com
Restarting phone is also good idea.

Im so looking forward to Mac support so I can begin testing.

will not read my n900...nothing will. nokia map loader 3.0 will not detect my phone connected in either mass storage mode or pc sync mode. Hope they fix these problems soon as i want to download maps onto my phone.

hello, I need to install the application on my n73 ovi contacts but I can not download, I already have the account and email account nokia ovi. will someone can help me ...?? thanks

Hello together, why isn't in ovi suite a good import funktionality for contacts? Only support for sync contacts with outlook or thunderbird! I wish to have a import funktion for csv files (rfc4180) maybe with an mapping for the fields. The import in Nokia Comunication Center was poor, but in this point I'm very disappointed. Import funktionality are basics for a good product.

Sorry but this have to be said.
Bye bye ...

NokiaMServer uses 40% of CPU power here even when Ovi Suite is not started, and no mobile is connected. So i returned to the official Ovi Suite :-)

helo, how can solve this mtp device prob using this Ovi Suite and error connection code 10,

Hi ncr100 and ichigosan28,

"Nokia Ovi Suite 2.1 Beta open for all" WINDOWS USERS. =(

Hello,problem with update nokia e71-internal error???Nokia Ovi Suite 2.1 Beta,vista business sp2,rm-346,210.21.006 firmware.Help!!!

Two wishes:
1. Please merge PC Suite and OVI Suite as much as possible. Best solution for users would be to have all modules in one single Suite. I don´t know if this is feasable in technical way.

2. If technically feasable introduce a way to operate the device via the Suite. This idea comes to me because I can operate my TomTom - Navigation - device completely from the Computer - software "TomTom-Home". Although I am quite aware of the difference between a Navigation device and a mobile phone I can still imagine that there is still room for improvement / enhancement in the Nokia Suite(s). Ideal would be to have the mobile phone shown 1:1 on the screen and then to operate it via keyboard / mouse. Thinkable? Best regards to Nokia (using Nokia since 1996).

Will there soon be a beta version supporting OSX and perhaps Linux? I do not use Windows and may need to sell my Nokia devices.

Make a subscriber identity module (SIM) , that provides some battery backup (at least for 2 minutes) for another user to whom you talking

Description: suppose you are person A , talking to person B, But in the meantime person B's mobile is switched off due to low battery, so I suggest Nokia R&D to make such a SIM (for example for A or vice versa), so that when person A again call Person B by his/her phone (with the help of battery back up newly made SIM)can be able to provide the battery backup to person B mobile and switch on the mobile of Person B automatically and Person A can be able to talk with another user like Person B

I still can't see Linux nor N900 support.

FAIL.

20 minutes after I finally decided to install it and give it a try I disappointedly rushed uninstalling it...and probably will never try it again until these MAJOR issues are fixed;
1. The support for synchronising content (files) has inexplicably been removed???????
2. Video content not synchronised anymore??????
3. Manually defining several parameters on synchronising the calendar (period before/after), video/music/file locations, etc. – all those are gone!!!!!!.
4. It still takes a whole lot of resources and synchronisation was not smooth at all – in less than 10 minutes I got 2 error messages warning about not being able to complete the synchronisation and advising to reconnect the phone. Not to mention that synchronising the photo content (at least for the first time) seems to be quite a challenge for the software.
5. Despite the better looking interface I didn’t find it more useful and friendly about negotiating critical information – the suite is clearly being developed inspired by iTunes (conceptually) and clearly focused on the younger, unsophisticated user (which is not to be criticised) but ELIMINATING the possibility to manually fine tune it and be in control even on the finest settings when one wants to spend the time to get there is, in my opinion, a big mistake.
To me Nokia’s message with this new OVI suite release is something like: “It’s plug-and-play, go ahead you won’t get entangled. We have music – nothing else matters!”

like it is with pc suite whenever v update our contacts in the settings section we can say whether v want two way updation or one way.. I mean only from mobile to pc or from pc to mobile also but this is not the care wid ovi suite.. Here the default setting is a two way update which gets back my deleted contacts back up months back, back on my phone and many a times replaces my updated contacts wid the older information.. Thats how i now don't use ovi suite.. I am absolutely fine with the normal pc suite

Hi

I am connected by bluetooth and leave my computer once a while. When I am returning phone is reconnected and ovi suite window appears on the screen. I must say it's quite annoying behaviour.

E52 Ovi want to upgrade sw from 022.009 to 031.012 but always (10 times now) just reinstalling 022.009? why?
Also I can't sync messages, Ovi tells that syncing completed but no one message moved any direction? why?

hello. i've got problem while im trying to update nokia e71 device with ovi pc suite 2.1. while it checks device information ovi disconnects and reconects the device and tells me that the devise connection lost.i've done the same thing several timesand i have the same result :( .. please help!!

My life consists of small things. Sometimes it seems that they are not important, but it is not. Look at Paul Smith accessories and you’ll see how elegant can be little things around you. People at the subconscious level to notice them and appreciate their style. And this is necessarily reflected in the opinion of you.

No wonder Paul Smith is one of the most popular UK designers. This is because it has for many years does not alter the classical style (Paul Smith accessories is such). And the ability to maintain its unique style has always been highly valued in art. This is especially true of fashion.

Nokia Ovi Suite is supporting in Mac OS?
