Introducing Nokia Diagnostics, an experimental troubleshooting application
Thu, 2010-02-04 09:26Written by Ravi Sarma
We are pleased to present to you a new experimental application called Nokia Diagnostics. Our intention is to create a solution for helping millions of Nokia users diagnose, troubleshoot, and configure their devices with ease on their own. We believe that exposing this idea to the Beta Labs community and sharing this application prototype would help us realise just that.
With Nokia Diagnostics, you can diagnose, troubleshoot and configure your device using five different tests:
- Network Coverage test. You can get all the network related information and detect offline status & SIM card presence.
- Internet Connectivity test. Perform a real-time Internet connectivity test and identify the setting with which you can have a seamless internet access.
- Battery Charger test. Check if your device charges properly with the charger connected.
- Loudspeaker, Earpiece test. Check your loudspeaker & earpiece functionality.
Please download the application (requires login), try it out on your device, and post your feedback at Beta Labs. In particular, we are interested in hearing about other diagnostic tests you would expect to see in such an application.
Happy diagnosing...
- Ravi

Okay, i ll try and send feedback.
Nice apps, but can it built in at fw. Like sony ericson.
loolollll.
Great.....apps and thanks
will it be available also for e72?
you say "all nokia users" well i have to disagree with you there. I have the nokia N95 and i tried to download the app but the N95 is not compattiable for it so not all nokia users can use this app!! So you need to rethink your idea so that it is ment for "ALL " nokia users.
I do agree, we are missing out the S60 3rdEd device users. Very soon we would plan to release the same !!!
Having given it a quick try here is a possible issue with then internet check. I have three destination on my N97)
1 - Internet
P1 - WiFi
P2 - Contract Internet
P3 - Business Email
2 - Multimedia msg.
P1 - Contract MMS
3 - WAP Services
P1 - Contract WAP
When ever I run the Internet check it asks to change default to Contract MMS even though my default Destination is Interent and works fine. Makes me think there may be an issue with WiFi Prioritised Destinations when not in that WiFi location. My Interent destination works fine with the Internet Priority 2 Option (Contract Internet) when I am not in my WiFi zone, so I know it's not the settings in the phone.

>>> That might not be an issue, because the test is designed to loop through all the access points in Internet. May be "contract internet" wasnt working at that instant.
Can you see that "Testing Internet" progress bar getting refreshed thrice, it means it is testing the APN's one by one.
Anyways, could you try runnin it again or just in case can you move the priority of "Contract Internet" up and check.
Do please post your observations...
Ravi,
greate app, but next time you record video, please ~~speak slower~~. For native english speakers was hard to understand :)

Do not forget E71 while developing all your future apps. It's an expensive phone. I bought it for $400. Please keep supporting it at least for the next 3 years. I can't buy a new phone every year. I need a compatibile photo editor as well as a video player for my phone. Please see if you can develop these apps for E71.
yes. I also have a E71 and this is a very popular phone that´s because you have to do apps that support this model like a photo editor app ;)
E71 Support Please! Pretty Puhlease!! I cannot agree more with all of the above e71 users - I love this phone and I want to keep it for the next 5 years if I can, but if you don't support it I will have to switch... please please please nokia, and give us them free ovi maps for e71 already! :)
i just downloaded the application and made a quick check with it in my N97, it helps and a good idea creating one like this..makes my work simple connecting to new networks and checking out my earphone and all,its cool! :) i wish u release more interesting stuffs like this. good luck!!
Ravi! Really a gr8 work from you. I believe you will deliver more interesting application in future. gr8 going...
Nice at last we can check the device for problems.
Looks good will test it and send some feedback.
can you guys please make apps that are useful for users, not stuff that are needed by repairmans.
I'm sick of ovi store, why feature shareware and introduce java games for phones like nokia 5800. Nokia has so much potential, why waste it.
The idea is just great! Well done! Unfortunately cannot test it since I moved to N900
Hi guy's first time i've visited this site came looking for help regarding software updater as i have windows 7 and couldn't install the version in general release. Anyway first time and it's there so thanks i'm looking forward to many years with nokia now. power to the users
Works perfectly. All things works fine.
Hello Ravi,
thanx for that app, since i get my n97 i could't connect the internet @ home, now your app learned me why! Message: the chosen wlan connection might be intended for lan/secure networks. It cannot be used to acces the internet.
But the operater-test gives me further information: proper access settings for internet connectivity are available in your device. However you might not have permissions to use the settings. Contact your operator to optain privileges for access!
I wonder that my operator have admin-privileges for my internet-settings?!
As with any running as stand-alone mode, the mobile phone should be charged. This is done using special devices – phone chargers. But for every phone brand there is a separate phone charger. For phone company Nokia is a Nokia phone charger.
Works perfectly. All things works good. Thx
