Hi all, we started yesterday deployment of Nokia Ovi Suite 2.1.0.87 as web update for existing Nokia Ovi Suite users – our recommendation is, that when you see update notification in Nokia Ovi Suite about this new release, you go ahead and proceed to update into latest version, it contains many new improvements, bug fixes and features. We started distribution of Nokia Ovi Suite 2.1.0.87 last week from Nokia Ovi Suite web pages so you might have already this latest Nokia Ovi Suite released.
We hope that you find use for new features in Nokia Ovi Suite 2.1, for example ovi.com contacts sync, video transfer and playback and device application updates. I’m also happy, that many users have noticed our support for Mozilla Thunderbird in contacts sync. We’ve put also effort into improving performance of the Nokia Ovi Suite, so you should see improvements in that area. Obviously, these improvements are something, that we continue working on.
Thanks for everybody for participating into this round of Nokia Ovi Suite Beta testing, your contributions are very important for us and we’re looking forward for your help in future Nokia Ovi Suite Betas. Our teams are again in full speed for new development and there’s many interesting things ongoing. For example, many of us are now working with their shiny new silver laptops :)
Cheers,
Nokia Ovi Suite team

Any timescale on Mac Support? We have been waiting over a year for this now, and it can't be that difficult can it.?

I just re-read the last part, where you say you are working on your new shiney new laptops? Would these be MacBook Pros by perchance?

And what about Linux support? Ovi Suite built with Qt. and Qt apps runs under KDE desktop.. so it should be a Linux version too!

@MF I'm sure that's exactly what they meant.
If they're MacBooks (or MacBook Pros), I'm willing to test any mac version when available!
(Linux also, but just during office hours)

yay now I can not sync to contacts and calendar to ovi.com from my pc too, after not beeing able to do so from my phone for a half year because nokia support seems to think there is no way an admin could help reset the data in my ovi.com calendar etc... account after an bug occured while the service was in an early stage which resulted in enteries i now am not able to delete wich again results in any sync atempt messing up the phone cal and phonebook... sorry I know this is not the right place, but it nor is the means tried before either.... anyway the last ovi suite i tested still crashes when i try to sync to windows calendar, and im not able to sync contacts to thunderbird 3.01 or booksmark to firefox 3.6 ... on the positive side ovi suites do seem faster and more stable in general.

@speedgrapher, @MickyFin, @geemaan and @speedgrapher: you got it right, it seems that every day in office I see more of those sweet Macbook Pros. No time schedules yet - you'll sure notice that in Nokia Betalabs when available.
@TheMaXeR - we're currently putting effort into Mac version. Even though Mac OSX is Unix based and so is Linux, there's huge amount of differencies. Especially, when speaking about the lowel level stuff. Next we will do Mac version, let's then see what we will do with Linux. One by one :)

I have the exact same problem as iivo here. Since I switched to E72 from my old E51, I can't sync over SyncML/OTA without messing up either my phone's or OVI's data, and constantly messing up my contacts "Comment" fields where UTF-8 characters seem to be converted some other messy characters.
I had a corrupt Ovi.com (would delete multiple numbers on sync) and corrupt ovi suite (no phone numbers at all!) database. This update actually fixed both databases and now all the numbers are correct!
Nokia 6720 classic
Great to know another apps is now graduated. Bravo Ovi Suite team! :)

Congratulations on Graduation.
Memory use for NokiaOviSuite.exe is now averaging about 10MB that 90% reduction in my case.
Well done Ovi Suite Team.
Great job.New revision works much more better in my opinion.
10Mb?? That's very low memory usage. In my case most of the time memory usage is around 60-90Mb. If I open Ovi music also then memory usage is around 200-250Mb. It's crazy!
my follow ovi suite very good! by:rizqi from indonesia
what about lotus notes ?
I think I have found a bug in the released version with its memory usages.
When it loads at system start up it used over 100MBs but when I exit it then open again it goes up and then come down quickly to about 16MBs.
Since it has graduated from Beta Labs Now where do I report this issue?
problem with message on the bottom right PC's monitor baloon pup up MTP Device found but no driver install keep on show can not close it "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" not working I used windows xp. To fix the Problem just install the old version back works fine
with BT connection, the battery life drops heavily. i'd rather changing back to PC suite
hi,
during install a system-error occurred, but the install continued. A huge Dr. Watson-report was generated. After installation ovi is working fine.
Hi
Some time my mobile 5130 is hang.
So what im doing with my mobile.
this is the problem of nokia or me please give me suggetion for safty use or why my mobile is hang sime time.
When are we going to get ovi that supports the Nokia N900 geessss
what about the n900? come on people... it's the "flagman"... this is disappointing ...
Any idea on then a Mac version will be ready?
Cheers...
After installing the lastest update of Nokia Ovi Suite 2.1, i have noticed that it uses more than 120mb of memory when idle and not being used, this is a concern as when i do use the application it becomes sluggish and sometimes unresponsive.
It seems as thought this application is getting worse performance wise at each release and performance doesnt seem like a priority of the nokia devopers
This is really becoming a farce! I keep seeing new versions of Ovi suite coming out with bug fixes ect but still no one has brought out a mac version so we don't even have a bug riddled version to store our contact details ect! Whats taking so long??? this is really driving me insane as I've already lost my contact details once when my N-97 crashed and I don't want to have to go through all that again. Its been over a year now, will someone please get their finger out!!!!.
I used to use nothing but Nokia phones in the past but this one is useless and the service for mac users is non existant. Come the end of my contract I will be binning this phone and getting something else made by someone else!
@Malky1841: you can sync your contacts and calendars with iSync, download this http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/software/Nokia_N97_isy...
also you should use your phone's automatic backup feature (using the memory card)
it had saved me a few times from becoming insane hehe :P
Hi there.
I've been using the n97 mini for 2 weeks now mostly with Ovi Suite 2.1.
Ok first the positives:
- great to have photos (+videos), music, maps, and Outlook stuff sync all in one place
- GUI looks clean
- sync didn't create any disasters (like deleting or duplicating contacts and calendar entries) nb. I don't use email sync
Now the bad news:
1. Initial experience was poor - lots of errors, problems switching to mass storage vs pc suite sync, lots of memory being used.
2. Once minimised (to tray) it doesn't restore! (on XP here, all latest SPs) - I can't tell what it is doing once minimised... is it still syncing? Sys tray icon doesn't respond either. So I just kill it.
3. both USB (mass storage) and BT sync has errors. Usually errors with a sync operation. Lots of error syncing music. Not sure, have I got some dodgey music files? Maybe errors should just be skipped - i.e. no dialog box - then just reported in the main screen at the end. These are mostly annoying as they stop further syncs.
4. Ovi Music isn't really working but not something of interest. At the moment I keep all music in one place and copy music to another place for stuff I want to sync to the phone. My full collection > 100GB so I can't sync it all. I need something simple to nominate which tracks I want on the mobile.
5. Performance - on a 1.5GB 1.8GHz old notebook (Dell Latitude D810) it is very slow. Granted my machine is old but other apps work fine.
6. Ovi suite main screen - I don't want my contact names and appointments appearing on the screen in big fonts (or at all) for people passing by in the background to see. Please keep the main screen clear of private details!
Feel free to contact me to discuss further. It is in my interest to see your products succeed.
Warm regards.
Paul

That is too weak. You are saying you do not have the power to ensure Linux power at this moment?
Why not make it open source, get out an alpha version for linux next week, and let community do bigger parts of the task?
Dear Mac users,
Forget it. How long do you want to wait? Until 2012?? Ovi suite for Mac does not and will not exist. Period.
You begged, you pleaded but Nokia is not listening. It been more than a year. They do not want you as their customer. They don't care. They don't need you!! They just make empty promises and you guys will still be waiting, just like a dog drolling its wet tongue. Are you nuts?
I will be disposing my N97 mini and exchange it for an iPhone or any other brands that works with a Mac.
This will be my last Nokia..... and their answer will be "Who Cares?"
It is nice to see Nokia following the open source path and has adopted MAEMBO..
however why doesnt it outsources its ovi suite to the linux community
if not possible then why doesnt it write its ovi suite for linux users
is there some agreement with bill gates and nokia?
@ norazmitalib:
i agree, nokia doesn't seem to work well with mac.
I'm using a n97mini (8gb internal) + 8 gb sd card with 1.4.2 nmt - I can tell you _that's_ a lousy experience.....
shame on you nokia, the world market leader for mobile phones ;(
Many in the world are using Mozilla Lightning/Sunbird (OPEN. FREE) but all smartphone's producers seems to not understand. No other solution than to sync using Google services as intermediate....on air?
We need simply to sync PC with Nokia smartphone being free to have Ovi Agenda, or Lightning (free !) ..or others calendars/activities/todos/contacts appl. This feature is one of the most important item to choose the new smartphone because, mainly, we have not to change our databases and habits. So far, only one "pc suite" is a great example of good&simple application. This is "MyPhoneExplorer" (freeware !)and works with many SonyEricsson devices with SYMBIAN os ! take a look at http://www.fjsoft.at/en/ and take ispiration from it.
Bye Lorenzo (I apologize for mu English)
ovi suite is a different pc suite then other it is very faster and easier theen other
is this one work with windows 7 as i download once but it didn't work any clue ?
3,5 stars rating
helfull
thank.
I like Ovi Suite updates but would like calendar and notes to be visible. Archive for sms would send me over the moon. When is the next update?
when i connect my 2700 in PC Suite mode, nothing syncs, grrr, took to nokia service centre - reinstalled software on phone after stuff up, and it still won't work --- any ideas?
is there a linux version?? am sick of Windows :( and china maps seems to be too old(maybe 5 yrs old)
I can't load it :(
At the end of the download a box appears saying no digital signiture and I don't have a clue what to do about that! I'm on Windows Vista
Great to know another apps is now graduated. Bravo Ovi Suite team!
