New category for 3rd party applications at Nokia Beta Labs

Today we established a new application type* in the Nokia Beta Labs application catalog for applications contributed by some of our partners.  The following post will introduce the first example in this 3rd party category, but first I want to explain a bit more about this new addition.

Why are we doing this?  Well, we know that beta trials help to improve products, so it makes sense for our partners to benefit from what is already established and working well (thanks to our active community!) rather than creating something new.

You've also told us earlier that you'd like to see more betas shared here. So adding items developed by our partners to our catalog should help quench your thirst for more cool stuff.

Other than the new categorization, applications contributed by our partners will appear in a similar way as other apps in our catalog, and the invitation for you is the same: try them out and give feedback.  Likewise, the development teams are expected to actively listen and participate in the discussion when relevant.

We hope you appreciate this new opportunity for beta testing and actively contribute to these trials.  We'll keep you posted when more items are introduced to this category.

- John, on behalf of the Nokia Beta Labs team

* The other application types remain: Beta for pre-commercial trials, and Experimental for apps with a more uncertain future.

Great move guys. I do have one question however.

Are the 3dr Party development teams going to get the same access rights to the forum pages as the Nokia development teams?

Also, are you going to generate a new 3rd Party Developer badge so we can tell who they are?

Cheers.

involved third party apps is great and challenging.
i wish they can also actively involved in the discussion for the apps they posted.

@mbrett - 3rd party developerment teams will have the "staff" badge on their profiles to identify them in their own forums. And if needed we can also grant moderation rights.

whilst on the topic of new filters, is it possible to seperate the series 3 filter into 3.1 and 3.2 as there is a clear difference between the applications available for each. It gets frustrating to pick that filter for my N95 8GB yet to find that a lot of the applications are for s60 3.2.
Or better still, a filter for 'my phone' so it just shows you what's available for your own phone depending on what nokia have on record for you.

Much appreciated.

Kam

Looks good. Thx.
