Nokia Messaging Beta for IM now available for touch-based devices
Fri, 2010-05-28 11:37We have just released a new Beta of Nokia Messaging for IM designed for touch-based devices like the Nokia N97 and Nokia N97 mini! With a full redesign focused on an efficient user experience, you should be able to accomplish key actions with one touch (or just a few).
Nokia Messaging for IM offers a desktop-like IM experience on your Nokia device. You can stay in contact with your friends across multiple communities at the same time, easily switch between them and customize your status by community. Highlights include:
- Chat with your friends on the Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo!® Messenger, Google Talk and Ovi communities.
- (new!) Easily change your custom status, avatar (picture) and switch between conversations and communities with just a few taps on touch-based devices.
- (new!) Preview new messages in the Chat home screen widget. When signed in to multiple communities, the widget will cycle between them. You can also change your presence within the widget itself.
- See your friends' avatars and set your own using the camera or an image from your gallery (for Windows Live Messenger (new!), Gtalk (new!) and Ovi communities).
From previous Nokia Messaging betas, we know how important client performance is to our users on Nokia Beta Labs. This brand-new client is written in Web Runtime and we’re really proud of the look and feel, but we know we need to do more for the client performance. Upcoming device firmware updates will increase client speed and we are continually making improvements in the client.

Betalabs is one reason why i am still sticking with nokia.You guys rock , thanks for the app ,downloading it, will give you feedback after testing it.
Love the app Davis, but the >8MB loss of C: drive space on the N97 is a killer. Soooooo needs to install on the mass storage. Also even when app was logged out still stayed connected to my WiFi when at home. Not good. Same issue as seen with latest release of Nokia Messaging E-mail.

i think its a fantastic looking app but I have decided to remove it until it is next updated. It simply uses too much of my phone's resources on C.

Nice and useful app but the prob is that it doesn't work :)
At least on my N97 doesn't
I using the yahoo service and when i write from mobile it doesn't show in the pc box but when i write from the pc it appears on mobile(both accounts set to online and used yahoo accounts)
Beside this is a cool and useful app!

A few remarks on X6:
* On welcome screen it told me to choose the medium, but no mediums were shown. After I pressed YES, the mediums were made available.
* Button are somewhat inresponsive, cannot determine wheter I hit one or not
* Terms and conditions page - I can see the html tags and not the links
* After pressing "send" in chat, the app will show me the screen where I can add another message, not the chat window
* Opening emoticons screen froze the app
Tried msn.
Didn't restart after the crash as it is too laggy at the moment and no smooth chatting is possible.
Keep on the good work though.
Fail to understand why this app is written in Web Runtime. Any explanations?
Just downloaded and liked it , at least first impressions.
Not slow, kind of ok. But always good to have.

@mbrett same thing happens on my 5800 but realise that even though you've 'exited' if you don't sign out of all accounts and exit then the programme actually keeps you signed in.
When is Facebook Chat likely to be added? Hopefully its in the plan!
Great idea for an app, but it renders my N97 completely useless, freezing it, this is in part mainly due to the installation on C, if installed to mass memory, it may work better.

well it is good for you s60 Vg users but .. The S60 V3 version is not so good :/ it must have a update after this release to make thing go together at the same level so if beta labs could an interresting update to nake thing go better in the s60 V3 ill apreciatte this

Nice app, installed on my N97 but runs very slow and i dont like the arrow cursor appearing for selecting options when the D-pad is in use, it make it run slower, the other annoying thing is that vibrates every time you press an option.

tested after a full hard reset in my n97.
It is just too slow. The interface is pretty nice but it is very unresponsive. Takes ages to open a chat.....
The widget for the homescreen is very nice but launching the app fron there is also too slow.
The app should be able to be installed in the mass memory.
it iz slow on n97 mini.no fb nd skype accounts.no option to turn of the vibration.

This App is nice but runs very slow on my N97, i installed it yesterday and used it for sometime. The strange thing happened this Morning, i woke up and turned my N97 on and the App was gone. Just curious, was it uninstalled by Nokia Server or how on God's given Earth can this happen, anybody with this kind off issue ?

Working great on my 5800 Xpress Music. Performs faster than the OVI Contacts chat. The app feels like it is part of the operating system - especially the hide option and the alerts.
The interface looks very good and scrolling in the chat window is very smooth.

You could use the Google Latitude api for this - works with standard google accounts. This will make the Nokia Messaging Beta for IM - truly mobile. Mobile Instant Messaging!
One more suggestion - can you add a homescreen online/offline notification like the ones for calendar, search, and radio.
Can you add video chat for gtalk/yahoo through the front camera?
install crashes to not enough memory
i had 9Mb free memory on C-drive
i needed to restart phone and after that it says allso not enough memory...
i deletet java runtime 5Mb from C and there is now 9 Mb free?
please, put next phone 2GB C-drive and 30GB mass-storage...
this is not first time when my phone screams "not enough memory!".
install allso reseted all program icons to default position in menu not good

Application looks great. I am happy that Yahoo! messenger was included since there isn't a good Yahoo! messenger app around, that I know of. On my updated N97 its very sluggish which is my main problem with the software. It would also freeze my device to the point that the only way to restart the phone is to remove the battery. This has potential to be a wonder application once Nokia work out all the bugs.

i cant install it on my 5530 XM :-(
it works on n97 mini very low efficiency,
and jams many ram,
make the phone more slow response.
i think the apps should more improve those problems.

What a crap navigation. (Browser?) i cant use the navigation keys...
And touch is also buggy... And always this vibration.
Please... I would be also nice to switch between the services with a swipe and not only the buttons on the top (or navigation key right and left)

i can't login in on my 5800, the message is "unable to complete request" any solution ? by the way this is cool application.
Installed app on N97 FW 21.0.0.45 but application does not log into my yahoo account, all other accts are all fine; ovi, msn, gtalk. Does anyone have a similar problem and can anyone offer a solution?

using n97 and wi-fi connection
after 1st day. Memory killer on C drive; battery killer (big time) when all services are online BUT for all you N97 complaining - everything conects! Make sure you dissconnect everthing to exit application.
No one wrote to me :-( I need people who want to test this app with multi users, online/offline...
Since nokia browser can't copy all my user data is a few msg up "NOT a big IM user"
really cool app, it would be cooler if skype is added :) also, after i finish typing my message and press enter to send, the screen is still on the typing screen not on the chat.
i use msn. It is so slow my phone feels like self destructing.

Hi guy's... after installation of nokia im messaging in my E63 i try to launch the application but show i need to subscribe. though i have already subscribe to nokia messaging and constantly using nokia messaging email in my set. what i have to do for this!!....... plz help someone.......
