Introducing Nokia Notifications - manage call, message, and calendar notifications at your convenience

Hello,

Today we are releasing a new beta for a short trial.  Nokia Notifications gathers missed calls, voicemails, messages, and missed calendar alarms and presents them in one list for you to manage at your convenienceAdding the widget to your homescreen removes the need to acknowledge individual notifications that may otherwise get in the way of doing other actions on your device.

The background of Nokia Notifications comes from Nokia E-series devices, and their much liked way of showing notifications at the bottom of the screen. The Nokia Notifications widget is a new, improved version for the Nokia N97 and Nokia N97 mini.

During this short beta trial, we are hoping to catch any remaining bugs before publishing at Ovi Store. We welcome any feedback you have, but keep in mind that only the most critical items will be addressed.

Happy using!

On behalf of the Nokia Notifications team,

Sanna

Love it! Awesome.

My only suggestion would be, instead of just saying "no events" it could show the next calendar item coming up.

Works Great!

-Fakhre

it will be nice if this were available for other phones especially the E-series.

Is it possible to get it run on X6 or similar feature to run on X6?

I second Jai's proposal of having the next calender event show up instead of no even displayed. It would be helpful combine the space together with calender widget. That would clear up widget space required to run both together as I see both are pretty relevant to each other. I had to sacrifice my music widget to run this little baby.

I'm sorry, but why did Nokia remove notifications in the first place?

On my E65 and N78 I got used to notifications on the home screen showing me any missed items (incl new emails) as well as current and future calendar items. I was glad to see it remained when I got my 5800xm. However, it disappeared with one of the firmware updates, leaving only the email notification (which is there whether there's a new email or not).

So could you please bring it back for the 5800 too? And could you - as someone asked already - include calendar events in the near future, rather than just ones in the past?

Wow, it only took one year for you guys to develop this basic widget!

Thanks guys!

Please make it notify emails from Nokia Messaging/Email or whatever its called nowadays. Apart from that and my N97 not having enough widget space (2nd homescreen Nokia? Pleeeeeease?) its great.

Would love to see this merged with the e-mail widget so that everything was in one place and save homescreen real estate. Does install on the C; which is a pitty, but at least it's not too big.

If you find a post helpful give it a thumbs up.

i definitely agree with those suggesting that it show next tiems for calendar - meetings i've missed i don't need to know about!

I want a homescreen like that =)
is that possible on my 5230??

I have been trying to get an on board Vmail and call blocker/managing system to work on my E71. I am using total recall by killer Mobile and it is awesome. I am using bestblocker bestanswering machine as well but total recall is interfering and they are not compatable with each other. The advanced call manager that came free with the E71 does not work and it never worked and there is no support from their customer service. Even with the paid upgrade, it does not work. So, nokia needs to make available something that will work. If you are taking the notifications idea from the E71, then give us E users something in return. Advanced call manager is not a working option for us. It never has been and they want us all to upgrade from something that doesn't work to something that doesn't work, for money, no refunds, no competent customer service. We are all waiting. Oh, I disabled my carriers Vmail because it does not work well with any call blocker.

it should be made available for 5800 xpressmusic

I think it's a great ideea this widget ... very nice to have all notifications in one place. So far no problems on my N97mini :)

It's all about n97. What will nokia give other devices especially 3rd editions devices apart from image exchange. Or we should all buy n97.
SMuol

You're right,
you should buy a N97 because this is a great "work in progress" smartphone despite all inappropriate comments you can read here and there about it.

I agree it should be merged with the email widget and have everything in one place. looks a bit boring when nothing on the screen which is most of the time because once you get a message you read it, then it vanishes. nice idea though.

As previously mentioned, it would be good if this was on other phones. Especially 5800XM. This should be given a high priority along with a improvements/revamp to the Facebook for Nokia app and Communities app.

These Facebook supported apps really need things like notifications and better integration with Facebook. You're miles behind in this department and millions of people use Facebook everyday.

Sorry to go off topic briefly.

Thanks for the comments so far! We have acknowledged the widget using up precious real estate on the home screen and are considering different options to solve it.

Adding emails and IM messages to the widget has been considered also, but the missed calls and SMSs might get lost among big amount of email messages. But it could be something to try on.

On behalf of the Nokia Notifications team, Sanna

I agree to add email events on the widget. I am having a problem that is not showing missed calendar alarms, N97 mini. (I really don´t know what is the scope for missed calendar alarms).

Why the applications here are for only s60v5 users, why not for s60v3 like N79, N78 etc....

Comming calendar items are a good idea

If the missed items were ranked by default then the sms and missed calls could stay at the top of the list and this would prevent them being lost in a mountain of email and IM.

I'd love to see this serving notifications for Email, Social Networks, and IM also, if it's possible.

I agree. coming Calendar events should be there or in another stand alone widget. T

Another suggestion is that the Widget should sync with the missed upper bar notification, so that way you will not have go to both places to remove the notifications of missed call or messages.

Hi,
I noticed that I get charged between 0,10€ and 0,13€ -depending on days & hours- everytime I receive a text message through (and only through) Nokia Notifications. Of course, it's not for the amount of money spent but... is it a bug or I missed something? Guess I'm not the only one...
Thanks,

N97-1/v21.0.102

works fine for my N97 in Hong Kong....

keep on to make it a better phone! thx nokia

This is critical: Nokia has to make sw (including widgets) instalable on mass storage D. There is no way to keep N97 up and running with all the stuff loaded on the meager c drive.

I am really upset with nokia that it is showing such bias when it comes to nokia n97, i mean why all the nice and new applications are meant for nokia n97 and mini, it is a fact that nokia 5800 is its most sold touchscreen device till now, its cheap, its sturdy, looks good and all, but still the UI has not been updated as been promised in a firmware update and all the new applications in beta labs are mostly based on nokia n97 I mean the users of nokia 5800 have been devoid of even basic application like, thread messaging. Nokia people are you listening.

Hi Nokia,
Thanks a lot for this useful widget.
It doesn't show Arabic right, the widget shows it as a single separated letters.
Thanks again.

"Adding emails and IM messages to the widget has been considered also, but the missed calls and SMSs might get lost among big amount of email messages. But it could be something to try on."

Sanna, how about letting the user decide a priority for the events?

E.g. I might decide that unread SMS is priority 1, my next calendar event priority 2, emails 3, and calls 4. The widget could then display the events in order of priority, and people can customise it so that what's important to them is what appears.

having used the widget for a bit, I'm getting to like it - whizzing through SMS messages using it is really convenient.

works good on my N97mini. Nice widget. Better than the original system of notification because of the good integration with the home screen. But i have no more place for a new widget...

love it and can't wait for it to be included in a firmware release, that's how good it is...

One wish though: to save homescreen slot, what about including upcoming calendar events as well? --- N95 31.0.0.17 | N97 21.0.045 --- http://hi.im/iivo

Notifications are comming just right to the main screen thanks to the widget, BUT, I would like to have the SMSs, and Missed Calls to be erased from the inbox as soon as they are deleted from the widget.

When you delete the record in the widget, if it was a SMS, it is not going to be showed in the widget any longer, but it still sits in the Inbox. I think this widget is a better way to manage SMSs, it is nice, has a better UI than the standard Inbox Reader.

Sorry but for the Nokia 5800 nothing? And the fuction of event or memo on the home screen?Thank you Bye

In early times of 5800 , home screen just like this.
When will we see again this home screen in our 5800 phones?

Here you can see home screen of 5800:

@ markow76: Any thoughts on the addition of Emails to this notification? I have a n97 mini.

@harsha.balisavira
