Nokia Software Updater beta adds device application updates and one-click device software update

Greetings from the Nokia Software Updater team!

Today we have a new release of Nokia Software Updater to share with the Nokia Beta Labs community.  Our previous update addressed Windows 7 support, improved USB connectivity, and What’s New release notes.  Today’s release includes device application updates and improvements in the user experience.

Note that this release candidate is still in the development phase, and the plan is to keep the trial ongoing until the end of August. We will release updates here based on the feedback we receive (critical improvements will be prioritized), but would also like to gather improvement ideas for future releases.   We would like to hear especially if you have any problems with updating the device applications.

Try it out and let us know how you like it!

Currently using an N97, S/W v21 - and its driving me around the bend.

but device application updates are already part of OVI suite?. Will be here now?

wonderful really .. waiting to test it to update to v.30 soon ;)

Okay now this is seriously stupid. Ovi Suite 2 marked a change in your desktop apps strategy where you wanted to combine all the different desktops apps into one single app.

Software Updating is something which Ovi Suite does too. Then why waste resources in developing a separate app for the same task?

Hey,zoro06,you have any news regarding V30 for N97?
As far as I know it will come out in a month,it is true?

All I know is just as you said, in July

It's supposed to work with N900? Ovi Suite detects my N900 in a Virtual Machine with Windows XP, but this Nokia Software Updater 3 does not detect it.

Would be useful also with phones that support UDP to be able to clean up and reinstall a clean firmware, avoiding to have to made a hard reset. For example giving and option when application says that the phone has the last firmware, giving the option to preserve data or not.

Great application. I will give it a try today, as the old software updater was useful only if you want to install or reinstall the phone software and the OVI application didn’t detect the new OVI Maps upgrade (3.4)

this program does not work with my e52 connected via usb to windows7 64bit. anything i can do to help you on finding out whats wrong?

Beta Labs Rock!!!

Tested with Windows Vista & Win 7 -everything works fine.

Hmm, my virusscanner is saying:

"File: C:\Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Nokia Software Updater 3\nsu3ui.exe
Virus: Gen:Variant.Swizzor.2 (Engine A)"

I haven't tried the new NSU yet, but I have something to say anyway:

1. Are there any plans for a Mac OS X version of Nokia Software Updater ("NSU")?

2a. NSU for Windows: when using an older Nokia device that not supports UDP (User Data Preservation) - can NSU make a backup of the phone (like iTunes does for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad)? The local backup to a memory card in a Nokia device works great - but it would be great if NSU can make a backup.

2b. I would be great if NSU tells the user if the Nokia device supports UDP or not. I think that most of the devices with S60 v3.0 + v3.1 doesn't support UDP. I know that N95 doesn't support UDP but 6120c (S60 v3.1) seems to support it! You guys at Nokia knows better than I do :)

3. In the future: a merger between Nokia Software Updater AND Nokia Maps Loader would be great. Why do we need 2 seperate applications for that?

(I am a swede, so I hope my english is good enough :-) )

can it reinstall my current firmware?

I am getting really crazy as OVI suite doesnt install my current firmware

good
