Hi all!
We are pleased to announce the next release of Ovi Maps for mobile!
We have made a few major improvements to Ovi Maps in this release. These include:
- Visually refreshed main menu and icons,
- New maps with public transport lines (as a new map layer) for subways, trams and trains in 80+ cities around the world. Just click the map toolbox icon and select Transit lines,
- Improved search experience - find places and addresses around you - or anywhere in the world - fast and easily. Browse places or enter a keyword in the search box. Now with suggestions and "did you mean?" functionality,
- New place pages with description, reviews, pictures and places nearby. Interact with places in a whole new way - you can check in, contact, navigate, save, rate, share, report or see place on the map,
- Share a place - send a place to your friends via SMS or Email. The SMS contains the address and a link to the place page with description, ratings, contact, URL and a mini map. The link opens up on the mobile browser (also on non-Nokia devices),
- Check in - keep your friends up-to-date with where you are and what you're up to. Check in to places and share it with your friends on Facebook and many more social networks. See places you’ve been to in your check in history,
- New Drive assistance mode with live traffic flow - after clicking Drive, you're instantly in drive assistance mode with live traffic flow and more. Once you start moving, get safety camera alerts and speed limit warnings,
- More folder with many rich content services relevant to your location. Personalise your Ovi Maps by selecting the services you'd like to keep on your main menu for instant access.

Those features all sound really great but is there any chance of getting an update for the N900?
When trying to download on my X6 the phone disconnect.
Update: I changed the usb-gate and everything works fine.
Still unuseable on N97 since the GPS don't work. Nokia can't fix it ehter :(
i agree with friesoft. We really need a Ovi Maps update for the N900. An update with voice navigation would really be appreciated!

It is a shame that the N900 gets left out. Last time I looked, my N900 said Nokia on the top.....If I didn't want to use the latest Nokia software and services, I could have saved a few hundred dollars and bought a NokLa or some other fake N900.
Here's hoping that Nokia remembers that they made the N900 and announces something, ANYTHING for the N900 during Nokia World. Seriously...anything positive will do.
+1 for N900 support. The fact the phone gets constantly ignored by Nokia is a disgrace imo.
Good to see you back. Like the new features. Love the higher contrast POI Icons and the new Driver Assist functionality.

Map 3.06 ' file not seen' after installation on my 5800xm. The ovi maps still showed version 3.04. What is the solution ?
looks great and works pretty well, too -- on the downside, unlike TweetDeck for instance, you're limited to a single Twitter (or facebook or...) address at a time. I keep insisting, you can have your "personal" twitter, your band's one, your company's and still want to be able to post from any/all of them (or record your position from any/all of them) at the same time. Same applies for any social networks, so I'd like to be able to add more than one account of every social network where you can record your position. I think this is already done somehow by the "photos" application, isn't it?

No problems at all downloading and installing app plus maps via Ovi Suite on my 5800xpress. Fast lock on to my position. Will test drive tomorrow.
Hope it works as well on my pre-ordered N8 when it arrives.

Love the features but with 2 20 min test drives the nav is no where near as accurate as the last version. at least half of each trip it had me on a side road off the interstate by about a good 500-800 yards. like i said good features but the constant recalculating is was a little to much.
it's clear nokia wasnt joking when they set goal to win the maps war and have the absolute best and most innovative map app for the phone marked and digging into the web marked as well.
Glad to see maps back in betalabs, it's been frustrating not to have a proper forum to give feedback and sugestions after the las new map app graduated.

why dont have an update for n95? i'm looking for it.
N97, N97, N97...whats going on? - I droped my N97, because it was a shame,
for a Nokia Product.
I buy a N900. - And no? - The same.
The N97 was a badly phone, - with good Software.
The N900 is a wonderful Phone, - with bad Software.
Nokia, come on. - Leastwise OviMaps. - Where is the Problem?
My tip for you: Developed in Qt.

This is Maps for S60 devices. Maps for the N900 is handled by a different team and we are not informed about their plans.

Too bad you guys forgot about N900 users.
I'm not very happy with this release because even if introduces an improved interface, added features, yet remains weak on the main part on the completeness of maps. Many roads are still lacking, while other browsers like Sygic Mobile has for so long. We are focusing only on aesthetics but not on substance.
my mobile is 5800xm fw 51.006.532.02 and with this last fw is still shipped the 3.03.
one thing I dislike is how it is run this application. If I upgrade to the latest version from ovistore lose about 20 MB of memory .. Why??
It would be best able to manage separately from the firmware without losing 25% of the total memory of the phone, run by ovisuite and / or ovistore phone. Another solution would allow installation on external memory, saving space on your phone.
I finally tried this new version and apart from being very slow to calculate a route, it fails to do so finishing with an error "memory full close other applications"

Works great on 5800 and the X6. Very fast and responsive to touch on the X6. Quick GPS fix. Interface looks cools. Thanks for a superb app. :)
why "positioning server" -> "Access Point" has to be GPRS cannot use wifi??
Hello! The new version of Ovi Maps is wonderful. The new UI looks and works perfect. One problem - I'd like to have the maps for all the countries in, say, Europe, but it's very boring to download them one by one from Maps section in Ovi Suite. I wonder if you can make in each continent section an additional link with all-country-maps-in-one? Thanks and keep up the great work!
Why are the new maps so big- for example the germany map rises from 360 mb up to 530 mb- just because of the public transport lines????
When I avoid "Autobahn" in germany for a travel distance > 40 KM - I get the message: program memory is full

Just another question: still no safety cameras for germany? For allmost all navigation pnas, you get legaly safety cameras for germany, even from companys like navigon. Why don`t you manage, that the users can decide to install the saftey camaras in germany on their own risk?
Any reason Nokia has dropped support for S60.3 FP1 and FP2 devices? Any forced new purchase is a better than 50% lost sale for Nokia. If I were you I'd be hanging on to customers for dear life, not telling them to buy an Android device to get software support.
I'm having some problems with this new version, I will equate to a search by categories the program closes instantly. My phone is a 5800 xpressmusic V50.0.005.352.04.Ha something that can be done?

Hello, I have a 5800XM v 51.2.007.c03.01 and the program works well and fast, but I noticed that this beta can't change the icons of the favorites and voice guidance seems to have been "economical", with few warnings. I noticed that in the first five minutes of use and can no longer reporting nonexistent places ... as we have forums to collaborate.
Now we can see that the program is moving towards an evolution.
can you make the compass available for nokia 5230?? it works well on the not updated version..
Works great on X6. Only bug i have found is enter a destination too far away and the phone will come up with memory full. Even after a phone reboot. We were in rural Sweden and using the highways. So i entered a town half way. Then on arrival entered our final address
go into map reporter and enter the locations of cameras. This will help with next map update.
I'd like to be able to check the satelite status within the Nokia maps, as in Garmin, not to go outside the program. Especially this would be helpful when I use the maps abroad without assisted gps

I used 3.06 for some days on Nokia X6 Greek v21.0.04
my positive - negative points as follow
(+) the new UI
(+) the north selection direction while navigating
(+-) the social features (although this is not important to people that just want to navigate
(-) memory consumption: with about 30-33 MB RAM left to my phone before I start Maps and down to 7 after I started them I got many "memory full" errors while navigating
(-) positioning accuracy problems even with an external 32 channel BT GPS
(-) search should be able to be simpler as selection lists City->Street->Number
(--) BIG MINUS the removal of favorite folders from maps.ovi.com
I had my favorites in categories to cities and countries and now all I see is a big list that I have to scroll forever until I find what I want..
Here is the response from Nokia support about the matter:

In response to your concern, please be advised that Ovi maps online was recently updated. Due to the changes, the folders option has been removed; however, the Routes and Places are still retained for you to easily search on your Favourites.
The folders that you have created which are synchronised with your Ovi maps will not be removed from your device. The changes are only made on the website If you would like to add a route to your Favourites, it will directly be added to the Routes category. Likewise, the same will be done if you decide to add a new address or location; this will be added to the Places category.
If you would like to search for a certain location or route saved on your device, you may use the search bar to easily find the said route or place from the list.

Sorry guys at Nokia.. I need folders in the web too! It's much simpler to save my places in the web in folders and the sync them with my device. All GPS programs use user defined POI categories and the "folders" was something like that.

Please make the Check in -application even more like Foursquare as soon as possible! Not going to go to details, just copy the good parts from their service - you already have an excellent product in your hands, just needs a little bit more social elements in to it!!

Well, the facebook stuff doesn't interest me much (can't stand facebook!) but I'm loving the new UI!
works great in my 5800 rm428 v51.2.007, nice interface, nice icons, really i'm very happy with this app... i'll be happiest with pinch to zoom...
Support for E75 already, it's well overdue...
Some problem I face with my X6-16GB:
1. half of the times I want to Check In, the application hangs. And the only way I can close the application is by re-booting the phone.
2. If I select My LOCATION, and Check In from there with a photo, the photo is updated in facebook in a different album, and not updated together with Facebook's Check In status update.

On my Install The Nokia Maps v3.06 Navigation S60 v3.2
Cripples the backup routine under File Manager. When you start to initiate backup, it says something like "Memory full, close some applications and try again." and "Operation aborted. Another operation is in progress. Try again later." I have to hard reset my phone. I hope it gets fixed in the final stages.
