Ovi Maps survey – takes less than a minute!
Tue, 2010-09-21 15:07Hi Beta Labs users!
We are working on finding new ways to listen to you. We want to do things that are more fun and interactive so that we can connect with you better. Over the next few weeks we will be doing a number of “quick surveys” to help us understand what users want. So, here is the first one!
It only takes less than a minute to complete!

Many thanks,

Muito bom
hi its fine
Would be nice if you give us N900 users(YOUR SO CALLED FLAGSHIP DEVICE) the working version of OVI Maps with navigation facility.
OR
Take back N900 .
Like other N900 buyers I SIMPLY FEEL CHEATED .
OVI MAPS is not the only problem.
1. FIRMWARE UPDATES ????? Where are they , check your own bugzill if you need to know why we need firmware updates.
2. Full Flash Support( where is the support for 10.0 ? )
3. SIM STK support ( A very basic feature missing from the phone)
4. Email widget support for Nokia messaging ?
5. Ok now you have stopped working on Maemo but atleast give us Meego , but I seriously doubt you guys are going to do that.
& the list goes on . I wish I knew this is going to happen before I bought a Nokia product.
3310, 3315, 6600, 3230, N70-1, N95 8GB, N97.. (E7 Next)
HI,
Here are some Experiences after using Nokia OVI Maps new application 3.06.
Also some suggestions for 3.08
1) Status bar if possible but If our phone see any satellite then it should show it like in Sygic. Before Fix we should be able to see the satellites in Gray and after fix it should become Green.
2) Google Map Search option like Garmin has. If the POI is not getting in OVI Maps then we should be able to search that place in Google maps and then OVI Maps should guide us by targeting the Same POI’s “Coordinates” from Google Maps automatically.
3) Fixing the “Or Just Start Driving” Align Map to route rather than only north. Fixing Compass needle which shows only North or skips route after few seconds. If we have not planned any route like we have clicked the button “Drive” then we want our position Red Arrow at the bottom of the screen so that we can see the maximum map of next couple of kilometres I mean turns & bridges or crossing highways. Sometimes we can not see anything beyond 500 meters due to the upcoming turn / uphill but you can see the map of the next approaching roads if you have map application on windshield.
4) Ability to publish POI immediate on OVI Maps and from the Mobile and on the Spot itself. It should be allowed only if you have GPS Fix. Or it should deny publishing POI on the map if there is no GPS Fix. POI will be very much accurate when published from that spot like many times we get POI on the left and Map say “Destination on your Right”
5) Check in: In Check In we should have setting to publish our location after the time of our choice like I am travelling to another city and OVI Maps should publish my location every after 30 minutes or one hour or may be every after 10 minutes AUTOMATICALLY. We should be able to set it that way.
6) Dashboard: Right Now the Dashboard is not useful at all. In Dashboard we want Accurate Altitude, Speed, and heading NW, SW or NE or East or West.
7) When you open map application, and Click on the Car logo (Drive) your location round red spot becomes as Arrow. The Arrow which get stuck to the north direction only. Many tries after tapping on Compass Needle no luck. If you are travelling to South the Arrow keep going backwards and then you don’t come to know what’s happening. I hope you will fix this in 3.6 graduate
8) When you click on the Walking Man Logo, (Walk) it says Walk Home, Set Destination, “Or Just tap the map to explore your surroundings. I tapped map 100 times didn’t explore anything. How to explore?
9) If the Favourites are added on the spot and with GPS Fix then it should be able to publish with right click from the PC on Maps.ovi.com
10) Getting own country map is very difficult through OVI Suite. The Suite doesn’t get connected only. Please provide some other option or please fix the OVI Suite.
11) Can we record our trip and share it with other Nokia users? Or a Footprints recording like Garmin has got. It helps when you go trekking or in jungle or off-road. You can record your footprint marks route and then it helps you to get out of that jungle on the same footprint marks back to the spot from where you had started. Even if it is dark it helps to get out on the same route you used in the morning. It will be very useful.
12) Please Add Time Out Listings in Mumbai Delhi & Bengaluru in India. Please use Time Out in India to plan their next fifteen days.
13) If I have visited a new city for holiday and saved a POI collection over there. POI of restaurants and other major spots. I should be able to transfer the collection to my friend’s phone via Bluetooth, the friend who is going to visit the same city. My collection will be helpful for him as he will be new in that city. Please try if it is possible.
14) Now in 3.06 we can not send location as MMS. A html link to the OVI Maps goes in a SMS as your location.. Very bad and backward move. If Nokia want to make the location useful to Non Nokia people also then there should be Option for us like Send your location as HTML Link / Send Location as MMS. The MMS Option was much better and less GPRS Data consuming and also you could start navigating immediately. Getting OVI Map link is useless.
15) Would love if we can change the Red Arrow to our favourite animated vehicle.
I have got N97 and I use Garmin in the Morning, Sygic in the afternoon and OVI Maps in the evening / night. Also Google Maps very frequently. Also I have Nuvi 255W. I do field job so have to visit many unknown places everyday and I keep adding those places to my Favourites Collection and then on the OVI Map for others.
I Feel that Nokia has got very smart Application Developers but they should have good SOFTWARE DESIGNERS. Because software developers can make any thing possible if they get good design. Mainly The Designers should use Garmin, Sygic, TomTom, and other GPS navigation Applications so that they will come to know which the useful things are and which the unnecessary things are. And then only they can design the things better. They have to use other navigation apps first so that they can plan OVI Maps better.
3.06 beta is much better than the old releases. Hope to see much better things in future.
Regards
I use a NOKIA X6 RM551 fw20.2.005
When I open the ovi maps 3.6 and will look at the application closes and the phone restarts by itself.
I can not return to the previous version,

The UI is counter intuitive. When for example in favorites the available options are found by pressing the favorite you want. pressing the lefthand side button (where usually the options are in other functions of the phone) gets you back to the main maps screen. Very frustating
Can't use maploader to download maps to phone. is 5800. this is very disappointing
Honestly, I've been using Ovi Maps since it was offered as a free app and it works as it was intended to be and so far doing a superb job! My only squabble is Contacts integration with Ovi Maps where you could easily map an address under Contacts.
For those people with Ovi Maps 3.06 who can't get it to work. It's because the maps that worked with 3.04 are incompatible :-) When you install 3.06 it tells you that, and offers to delete them all. And if you install the new maps with 3.04 it will silently crash :-) Oh, and you need to use a new version of Nokia Ovi Suite to install 3.06 and its maps, and should not use PC Suite, maploader etc. Obvious isn't it :-)
The problem is that real people, especially those who want the latest beta version of software, don't like Ovi Suite, which is "made for morons". They transfer files using the simple "Mass Storage" mode familiar to everyone who uses a USB device such as a camera, telephone etc. Downloading the maps to your PC first is also much less painless, using eg http://symbian.clanteam.com/indexmaps.htm (You will get the maps for 3.06 not 3.04, but first you must install 3.06 to create the new file structure).
NOKIA, please catch common user errors like this. Applications should not silently crash, but should say why they fail.
Apart from that, I really like 3.06. Yes, phone "contacts" is not yet integrated, and yes, there is still no satellite strength or accuracy indication, and yes, if you position maps in Europe, you still can't search for "Australia, Melbourne" etc etc, but the public transport overlay is great. Of course it only shows suburban train lines, not bus routes, but only the locals can follow bus routes anyway.
One major gripe about 3.06. The zoom + and - should be on the Menu/Search bar, not on the map, where trying to touch them can scroll the map to a new position (didn't happen so frequently in 3.04).
I would really like an option to send GPS coordinates as a simple SMS message (not as a link to web like http://m.ovi.me/.....). It could become very handy in emergency situations.
It would be really nice to open the received GPS coordinates directly on the phone offline map, again avoiding the web traffic (especially when roaming).
"This survey is not accepting additional responses at this time. Thank You!" Wonderful. Im using maps for half a year now, with all lastest updates on 5800 XM. It hangs up latest after 200km, most times in important regions like Frankfurt with a lot of exits. Sometime I'm really angry about that...
On N8 I can't find a way for the menu (image at top of this page) to rotate to landscape. Can this be done already?
i have a N8 with the last update of OVI MAPS, my problem is i don't like use the maps with internet
so I put the phone in OFFLINE mode but now the phone can not connect with the OFFLINE mode is looking for position
