Hi Ovi Maps beta users!

Firstly thanks for your feedback on the last survey about Ovi Maps favourites. This has been a great help to us! Results will be posted shortly.

Now, onto the next survey...

Takes less than 30 seconds to answer!

Many thanks,

In the survey I picked Landscape as the holder I have it works best in Landscape when driving. But when walking I am more likely to use portrait.

One of the things I would like to see as a priority in Ovi-Maps, is the ability to navigate to an address in my Contacts easily.

i.e. From the main screen, I should be able to press "Drive", then "Set Destination" and in the list of (History, Favourites, Search, From Map) should be the option "Address from Contacts" or similar.

Also in the Contacts application, when I have a contact on my screen (Voice Call, Message, Video Call, Etc) there should be an option that give me the choice to "Drive" or navigate or walk to their address...

Please Please add this...

I share the comment above...

I prefer portrait mode so that I can see sooner of the coming crossroads.

[ But of those two pictures: in my country (Finland) it's illegal to keep navigator like that in the middle on the windshield... It limits the drivers possibility to see. ]

Portrait mode

Sclee portrait

I prefer landscape

hello,
i prefer landscape while driving and portrait when walking..

I cannot answer the survey. My N97 mini's screen is too small, and there are no scrollbars. Please provide a mobile friendly web site for surveys!

Portait, no question

I use OM at 99% in my car on the car holder, it depends of the mobile, usually I use my N97 in landscape mode and my N95 in portrait mode.
In this way the car charger cable is plugged in the lower part of phone.

I agree:)
I'm from China. My English is not good.
Nokia 5800

As some of the users have mentioned,
I think I prefer the landscape mode when driving and the portrait mode when walking.

And when I'm navigating for someone else, I'd use the portrait mode. Kinda makes it easier that's all.

Hope this helps someone out there.

i have E71.. so its always landscape mode for me :)

I use Sygic Mobile Maps It's a million times better than Ovi Maps :)

landscape but the funny thing is we have a TomTom also.
So in the car on my side (passanger) Nokia N97 mini in landscape, TomTom in the middle and a Nokia E71 in portrait on the drive side. We find it alot of fun running all three because the N97 mini picks up on changes quickest followed by the E71 but very close behind is the TomTom

Portrait Mode Always.

I prefer portrait mode.

1. "Walk" in Ovi maps v.3.06 is not available on my 5800 XpressMusic, why?
2. Why can't I use Communities or Nokia for Facebook & Twitter application for update my Facebook and my Twitter? I always use it for update status and add my location to share location with my friends. But now it's unavailable.
3. None.

Well in my case I do not have that fixture on the picture. When I'm holding my N97 in my hand, I have it in portrait simply because that's the best way to hold it in one hand. I normally keep both hands at the steering wheel and have the phone additionally in the right one. ;)

But actually when I use navigation with the phone what I normally do while driving is to make it telling me where to go and then I put it into the bottle holder where I can't see it at all.

shouldnt you as for the hand set in this survey? I have a E72. How can it ever be used as landscape... you will get wrong statistics

I use it in portrait it allows me to se more streets ahead of me.

A small suggestion, integrate ovi maps to the calendar and contacts, if I have a meeting it would be helpfull to click a button from the calendar to start driving

I prefer landscape while driving, portrait while walking.

Another E71 user. Is that Landscape? Portrait? Anyway I generally like Ovi Maps. What's a good in-car holder for the E71? Also want a holder for it on my bike...

landscape! 5800XM

I use OviMap always in portrait because I can see more road in front of my position.

Always landscape mode. so I can see wider view.

Here is in issue I'd love to see fixed.
When in my car, my E71 connects with Bluetooth to the stereo's hands-free option. When this happens, I can't hear the nav voice maneuver commands. There are simply silent. When switching off bluetooth, I can hear them again.
My preference would of course be to hear the nav commands over the stereo's speakers when in the car.
Thanks!

I prefer the portrait for the view you get on the screen but in cars the landscape lets me tilt the phone skywards more for better GPS reception... I think anyway as they took the signal strength meter away... I found that very useful! I like the look of the new beta maps! Works great!

Landscape when driving, portrait when walking.

I use it in portrait mode because the GPS seems to work better that way. (Nokia 5800.)

@mgkuz57 - LOL! Do you have room for any more devices - maybe on the rearview mirror? :)

landscape mode of course...

Portrait. I care what's in front of me.

@UnInfinity
good point! very funny :) Everybody uses the fuction "drive" while driving.
of course the real sense of the sentence is "the driver of a motor vehicle should not do any kind of operations on Ovi maps while the vehicle is moving"

use in landscape mode so that it is resting in the instrument pod on dsahboard... this way I can still see most / all of speedometer and other instruments. To use in portrait mode is better... more warning of events, but then you need a holder and this is all ugly.
Please fix so that using when roaming is better... prompts everytime you hop to a different network (happens a lot when you are not in home country) aren't good as they obscure the directions... please have a feature to turn of network prompting.

Thanks for making it possible to download all maps before you travel this is a big deal for roaming again and what stops me using other phones.

You can disable the roaming warning.

While driving, I put my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic on a cell cup (Google "cell cup") and running Ovi Maps in portrait mode.

Landscape mode.
I usually wear sunglasses when driving and because of the polarisation vertex of my sunglasses the screen of 5800 is too dark in portrait.
Try it yourself to see display the throught a polarised glass and turn by 90. Screen can be seen in landscape and "darks" in portrait.

I often use headphones with the 5800 music express. And put the phone in my pocket. That way I can cycle and get directions around a new city. It's a good bike sat nav

This is a very importent comment!

i tend to use portrait, so that easier in typing, since landscape mode automatically set to qwerty, in case i need to find places or check some software (sms perhaps), also notice that it less vibrate while charging as compared to landscape mode

whats if nokia make a charger like walkie talkie type, i mean its either at the bottom or side and for sure its outside.. no need for us to plug in the charger like usual.. it doesnt loose our charger socket (vibration and driving shock make it loose and electric surge)and also it makes things easier.. just put it in front of us, and it charge automatically.. no need additional wiring.. and oh for sure.. its just the phone-hanger (i dont know what it calls) that had to be modified that, it can accept normal charger socket while giving a walkie talkie type charger

both (useful?)

I think Nokia should not consider the results of these poll for any future development.

For ex: I voted for portrait mode in the above survey, since I am currently using it, but i actually prefer landscape mode. But I am using portrait mode since i ended up erroneously buying a phone holder that works only in portrait mode and i didn't want to spend again for a landscape mode phone holder. So, if i had made the right phone holder choice then i would have been using landscape mode.

If you remove one you might only upset the smaller percentage but that's a lot of customers. Portrait and landscape are each good in different circumstances and so from time to time most customers will both, therefore a bonus to have!

N8 the menu doesn't rotate to landscape. I don't think it's a turn on feature or fault with my phone just not been programmed. Please add this.

I definitely agree with those that want to select drive to or find direct from a contact or in the contact list and the suggestion from the diary for appointments that have the data in them to do same would be very good.
