Swype for Symbian: an update on availability

As many have noticed, the beta period of Swype for Symbian will soon be wrapping up as it becomes available from Ovi Store for certain devices.

The current version of Swype on the Ovi Store supports Nokia C7 only with the following languages: English, Spanish, Canadian French, and Brazilian Portuguese.

Active development and testing are under way to support Nokia N8, other devices, and other languages. We hope to have an update available in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for your patience.

will there be support for german? i hope SOOOOOO. waitwaitwait

awesomeness!! i seriously can't wait to finally get this on my N8! after using it on android, while waiting for the N8, i found myself trying to slide around on the screen instead of tapping.

bring it on!

What "other devices" will be supported? Will the X6 be included in a full non-beta release of Swype?

We need russian language for this app - badly!

A decent keyboard for Symbian3 please as the current does not. A keyboard like the iPhone does not obscure information

Un teclado decente por favor para Symbian3 no como el actual que no sirve. Un teclado como el del iPhone que no oculte la informacion

Thanks for communicating it.
Kind Regards

<strong>If you find a post helpful give it a thumbs up.</strong>

Thanks for keeping us up to date. Can't wait for Swype to start supporting more languages. Dutch first please ;-).

People who say it cannot be done
should not interrupt those who are doing it

cant wait for this i had swipe on my 5800 now just waiting to have it on my n8! and i hope it supports portrait mode too

does anyone know what other languages are supported?
can't wait to have this in dutch

when will ready for the n8 please add greek language thanks

This is why I didn't install it on my 5800. I *knew* it would be killed-off for my device, just like the Social Networks app.

Very good news. :) I'm happily anticipating the release of Swype.

I hope swype will be avalible in swedish for me to try it out for something usefull.

@lunarworks I can tell you that Swype will not be discontinued for the S60 5th Edition platform. The beta has been going on a little longer than anticipated, but there should be an update for that next week (keep your fingers crossed).

Great news!
Just a question: will this new 5th edition version support other languages (in my case Italian language) or only the four supported in this beta?
Thanks.

Superb!

Please, remember about polish swype users! We are waiting for you!

I hope the would be a Pilipino in the language support.

Read about someone who uses Swype on his Nokia device extracting the German language pack from Android version an installed it on his device too - so keyboard layout and system language have to be English but text input supports German.

First I will like to commend nokia and swype for giving my 5800xm screen a good relief with the introduction of this input method, as the screen of my phone is not so very adaptatable to so much tapping since its not capacitive and is easily scratched by internal electric burns generated as we tap with the stylus (my notices though). Kudos for the thought, i really feel swype input method is really meant for the nokia 5800 as a necessity. Ever since i learnt of it, i've been swyping and not tapping. The lastest release is lots more stable than previous releases: doesn't crash and all that's already pointed out and it loads faster.

Permit me to also comment here on the maps week 44 release: with the latest beta release test on my XM, it proved to be a lot more stable too than the week 42 release; the wifi option comes up steadier, the navigation is pretty smooth, and i'm using it to find more places :D

But my greatest concern with these new apps and releases in respect to the 5800xm is knowing how lowly resourced the phone is with respect to its C memory, and how big a memory space the apps consume. Swype comes as 3.6mb but after installation it consumes around 10mb, maps comes as a 9.6 but in the phone its around 14mb, not to mention the upcoming java runtime release still on beta. These are really tasking on the 5800 small C memory, considering there are other non-nokia apps one world love to have like quick office and stuffs. With the swype, a must-have for the xm as it helps reduce screen burns and isolated surface deep scratches; the maps and java runtime on the C memory, thr's nothing left anymore internal memory-wise.

I'll love to suggest that nokia supports us 5800xm lovers and users by offering these apps bundled as a firmware update stored on rom to free up some space for the C: since these 3 apps already are in the ROM- QWERTY swype for the preinstalled qwerty, maps for maps, java for java. I don't know, but i think it'll be huge relief for the xm and likewise us the lover. I really feel it'll be a huge support.

Thanks,
Chidi.

is there a version which supports portrait mode in n8?
