Image Exchange experimental beta trial concluded; service continues to be available

Written by Timo Pakkala, Nokia Image Exchange team

After a fairly long and eventful beta trial period the Image Exchange team is now concluding the research part of the project. Existing users can continue to use the service as before, but Image Exchange will no longer appear in the Nokia Beta Labs catalog and we won’t actively monitor the feedback forums.

We would like to thank  the Beta Labs community for your active support  and excitement, feedback and suggestions, and patience for the occassional hiccups that we’ve had along the way. For us this has been a great ride. We have learned a lot about tight application and service integration in general and image sharing in particular. You seemed to appreciate the user experience the most, including automatic account creation, automatic back-up and the fast and cool UI.

About 1000 of you responded to our user questionaries and some more in-depth interviews were also conducted with a smaller group of people. The main insights from these studies have been presented earlier:

It is too early to discuss what will be the business impact of Image Exchange going further. But  for now you can continue to use Image Exchange; further plans about service continuation will be communicated later in spring 2011. If necessary, images stored in your account can be downloaded to a PC anytime from the Image Exchange site. Just sign in and select ”Manage” from the upper right part of the page:

there's been a lot of talk about how nokia does hardware wel, but software design not so much so... Image Exchange in general and the UI in particular is proof that the last part is not true. It's an excelent UI.

well I guess it's good news to here you're not closing the service just yet, and I'm eager to here what comes of the research you've done. I hope what will be announced in 2011 is not that the project dies all togheter, but that it will be integrated into other services. Such as maybe replacing share and/or the default photo browser.

Glad to hear you are not going to close the service! We use it heaps at work. Lately I have noticed that it is taking a long time for captured images to show up on the web? Is this going to continue or is it a hiccup? We often want photos straight away after they are taken for if something unusual happens offsite... I know it is possible to MMS but we always go to the Imex webpage first and just snapping photos is faster than sending 5-10 MMS's.

Thanks for the great system.

I have been user of this beautiful app since it was launched on betalabs.
Glad to see that you will not be closing this down as I had feared earlier.

Hope to see our feedback as user community getting into some massive improvements in future. Ideally I would like to see Imageexchange as default photos app with more plugins to it for sharing with different services.

Best Regards,

Very good and useful app the best one, but I have problems with upploading of single captured pictures to show up on the web, it is taking a very very long time and I can´t now if the picture is upploaded or not.

ah well it was an excellent app while it lasted, worked fine til i had to format my phone then it never worked again, hope to see this go release standard and work again

Well I have been unable to upload from My Nokia E72-1 and also been unable to upload an avatar to my online account as the site keeps asking for a .jpg or .jpeg picture which I can assure you I have selected on every occasion. I find the UI really slick and shows the pictures very nicely on my cell phone. But cannot upload my public pictures from my cell phone or from my PC.

It has indeed been frustrating and perhaps there is an answer somewhere as I seem to be registerd with my ovi account fine and can download and view public pictures on my E72-1 ....perhaps some more work needs to be done or am I missing something here ?

I get this error when I go to imageexchange.com.au

Are you winding down the service now or are you continuing to run it? We use it for our business and there is no fully automatic alternative that I know of.

hi i have been using image exchange for quite sometime and i found it really useful but of late my photo was not backing up automatically so i decided to reinstall it from ovi. But the problem has become worse i am able to log in with my web account but cannot register with my nokia 5800 please help

I have been trying without any success to log on to ImExch both on my phone and on the web. I understand from reading in Nokia Forums that this prgramme is still working but it is not for me. This was the best feature of my phone and Nokia experience. Without it, I suppose I'll try an Android device because dealing with all of Nokia's software issues is no longer worth it for me.

How do i download all my pics which i had uploaded?
Is it archived or LOST!?

Please somebody help...

An end-of-service notice was sent during last year to all registered users prior to ramping it down in the summer. The data is no longer available.
