Stay tuned for a production version of Nokia Messaging for IM
Mon, 2010-11-15 10:43Written by Phil from the Chat team
We want to thank everyone for your feedback on the Nokia Messaging for IM client on Nokia Beta Labs. Your feedback is very important to us.
We have taken your feedback and will be releasing an updated production version of the client for Nokia touch-based S60 5th edition and Symbian^3 devices soon! We expect to deploy the client through the following mechanisms: through a device software update (available via the Nokia Software Updater application), over the air application update, and through the Ovi Store. Please be sure to watch this blog for notification on when the new client is available.
Because we are moving to release the client in a production version, the beta version will no longer be downloadable. However, as a “thank you” for providing your feedback on the beta client, existing users will be able to continue using the beta client until the production version is available. So, please keep chatting!

Great, finally it comes for the N8. Excellent!
I have a request before you put it out, can you make the theme black background? or something dark? I think even the Social app right now is too white!
Great! will be checking the software updater OTA
Thanks
Please let me know when i will be able to use the chat app. on my nokia E52-1.
I am unable to use the CHAT app. on my phone either via. GPRS or WiFi.
Its says subscription to nokia messaging service is required.
Thanks,
Anoop
And what about a Chat app for the E5?
The preinstalled one only works with Ovi (which is useless, since there also is Contacts on Ovi) and, if you delete it, you can't download it anymore, through SW update, Ovi Store or Net Settings.
It's a pity that Nokia is forgetting its non-touch phones (the best ones, IMHO) so fast... See also the shameful move of stopping the development of Communities, that sucks anyway even of the S^3 phones!!
Gabriele> I think the new ones will merge with yahoo, and probably incorporate gmail as well.
anoop> if i'm not mistaken, you can go to messaging.nokia.com or perhaps you need an ovi/nokia account. Sorry I'm not sure about the E52.
putting a dark theme on this and on the social app would be a great idea for power saving - similar to what you find in Gravity
Gabriele,
you can use Palringo. Palringo supports more chat networks (like facebook and also ICQ) and also has a very good message handshake. If you are travelling and your network signal comes and goes, it stores your messages until it is sure that the other party received it (otherwise sends it until the other person received it). That way you know your messages are being sent.
Not sure how it works on Nokia messaging or OVI Contacts. But as I am not sure, I can't feel confident that all messages are transferred.
Best wishes,
Stefan
I know there are other ways to have chat or social networking on my phone.
The point is that Nokia in my opinion should offer the same things on every phone (given their hardware, of course): tell me why E5 can't have Chat, or E72 can't have Point & Find, or they both can't have Conversations? And why we can't have a working Communities? Why E72 can't have an official working Facebook client anymore?
We need a Nokia Messaging for IM like the BlackBerry Messaging(BBM)inside the messaging center of the Symbian^3.
The BBM is really nice and efficient. It show an update "live" when someone have read your message with a check mark symbol and time. That way it will always guaranty and confirm that the message have been delivered and read by the receiver.
That'll be amazing for my Nokia N8!
zzzZZZZ
zzzZZZZ
Oh.. I heard.. its coming ???
No its not here yet..
ok. I will keep waiting. For the same reason I bought N8. Keep waiting for Sequence mode in camera, keep waiting for Portrait mode in keypad, keep waiting for Panorama (yeah 3rd party one which is not integrated in camera app, but seperate), keep waiting for IM.
I should have patience and sleep tight like ...
zzzZZZZ
And dont tell me that I need to use Yahoo and Ovi Chat only and Gmail/ MSN are removed now.. if so then thankssss a lot.. One more star to Ovi
@llDonovanll , We don't need anything like BBM. We need something bettter, and nokia has the potential to do so. Just have to exploit that potential and bring it to light.
Waiting for this update!
Cheers!

what about the x6
Does this mean that Symbian^1 users have to use Nokia Messaging for IM instead of Ovi Contact?
will this mean the chat messaging will replace or at least that ovi contacts will be removed from the rom? Would make sense since it seems the ovi contacts client will be de facto unsupported in the future ---< N95 31.0.0.17 | N97 22.0.110 >--- http://hi.im/iivo | http://www.twitter.com/iivo
wow this is coming to N8
@iivo & @Gusti_Rizky, some devices will continue to have both Ovi Contacts and Nokia Messaging for IM, but future development is focused on the latter as described at http://betalabs.nokia.com/blog/2010/07/08/ovi-contacts-graduates-from-be...
@ve.victorpint0 & @anoopmadhav, regarding your subscription questions, I agree with elcoxx that you should check Nokia Support Discussions at http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/t5/Messaging-Email-and-Browsing/bd-p...
weleh2 wait for 100 years, wkkkkkk

For facebook chat you can use it http://store.ovi.com/content/56534
Congrats!,
A new app is always welcome. I only hope the production version deals with the pitfalls that the beta version had.
Keep it pumping!

I'm am so exited for this app!!
Any news on the S^3 version?
- A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
Oh iam unable to update my device sw still its shows there is no device sw updates yet.
When will we able to get the final version of Nokia Messaging for IM? Any tentative date? pls..pls..pls..
We are waiting eagerly for it.. right now am using nothing for IM for N8...
-more than a conqueror-
Love the enthusiasm! Thank you! Wish I could give you all a date, but I am not at liberty to say. Doing our best to bring it to you all soon!
hello
works on nokia 5530?
Ya, this upcoming release is targeted to all S60v5 (& S^3) Touch devices....
Any news on this one?
I cant really like any working chat app for my N97, I want to try this one!!!
I received a brand new N97 a few days ago. I opened the browser and what a surprise, the nokia home page that the phone opened invited me to download WHATSAPP (a great app by the way), and there is no mention of ovi contacts / Nokia IM.
I understood basicly that Nokia has given up on the ovi comunity (at least in terms of chat). To be clear. Nokia is openly promoting Whatsapp and not their own products.
I've got Nokia Venezuela on twitter, and guess what... they are also promoting whatsapp, once more, no OVI chat or Nokia IM...
When Ovi Contacts was alife i wrote a post on how cool would be to make it open to other brands as a paid program or service. Well, guess what, the whatsapp people did what i wrote and they are growing in a very fast pace.
That is a two way example. For nokia, they discarded an idea and other people is making money where they have basicly no market, and for me... the next time, instead of giving this kind of feedback, I'll make a business out of it (lol)...
Well, my final point is that this production version will we available?, is Nokia going to promote it?

I am facing this problem for your recent flagship Device Nokia N8
herein are the case id's for my simple one problem,
Case ID 1-11330027575
Case ID 1-11331182353
but not yet solved all i got is nonsense & non profesional suggestion from your executives
My only request is kindly provide me the preloaded "Nokia Instant Messaging Chat application & widget". for Nokia N8
which was lost after factory restore, and to mention i also reinstalled the software using OVI Suite inorder to get the preloaded Nokia Messaging Chat app
but found no success.
Dont expect such a thing from a flagship device like N8, so kindly provide the appropriate solution to
restore/reinstall "Nokia Instant Messaging Chat application & widget" for nokia N8
Hi,
Its about to be 1 month of closing of Beta trials & announcement of production version. But still there is no info regarding the release of final version.
Please...please...please... get us some clue when we get the Nokia Chat for our phones....
Thanks
First: I don't understand why I have to install a 3rd party software to have IM, and why there's no Ovi contacts chat on my recently buyed N8, there's simply no excuse for that.
Second, as a general comment, I think Nokia should have a more agressive marketing policy. It's lagging behind competition in regard of software. Its hardware, device conception and design are great, but the user experience should be at the same level of greatness. I would like to buy a nokia phone, unbox it, turn it on and already have all the features I waited for, that IS the competition-killer APP, the user experience. If you are consistent with software development, assess with polls and beta testers all around the world the consumer's needs and market trends, not just "overall consumer satisfaction", incentivate software development (maybe an open source or open core model for some critical apps to accelerate production state), you should go the right way.
I'm sure nokia phones exceed in quality over any other mobile device, but the competition from the android side is strong and is offering a great user experience on the software side.
Final: NOKIA, PLEASE, TAKE THE RISK TO BE BETTER, DON'T BE AFRAID OF YOUR OWN GOOD IDEAS!!!! You have 850 million people that will back you up if you decide to change...me included. No other company has that asset on its own...
(This week I've replaced my XM5800 with a brand new N8. I have to say that I have noticed the improvements of the Symbian^3 UI over the late 5thEd. But...I'm desperately waiting for the first firmware upgrade. I will be evaluating every glitch and bug, but I need a serious place where to report the bugs found)
Thank you for your reply.
The Chat feature is a default feature of the Nokia N8. We suggest you request for a different unit of the same model.

Nokia Careline
hooray for Nokia careline useless as ever ,its not available yet -supposed to be before xmas in a firmware update to PR1.1 ,however the E7 was due out before xmas with PR1.1 but has now been delayed til January for unknown reasons - i think we will be lucky to see it this year now
One thing i know for sure, if the production version comes out with a Group Chat feature, it may potentially be a great killer app here in Indonesia!
It could surely bring back many users to using Nokia phones! Until now, most of them are using Blackberry ONLY for their simple but socially popular Blackberry Messenger which supports Group Chat.
If Nokia is really going to have a sophisticated Group Chat feature, most people will start to ditch their Blackberry! Guaranteed!
hello,
i bought Nokia E5-00 for comunicator skills.Could you Nokia let us know when we can chat on ovi chat also on Yahoo and Live and Gtalk? For now I use Nimbuzz.
Thanks!
Nothing has came yet and when come then it will continued to be pathetic to prove that this wait of more than two month was a waste.
Who the hell add friends one by one, when collected them in years?
How many of friends still on yahoo messenger?
I guess they are removing the option of adding gtalk friends... isn't it?
Give me one reason to be excited, when after promised "few weeks" converted to months and then we get this
whats so difficult in producing a version for ^3 ? all incompetent people @ nokia
just waiting -_-
sb has the .sisx file for S60?
is this fraud? claiming a product can offer a service when it clearly does not..
or once consumers like us who parted with our cold hard cash to purchase this product they can brush us aside? since all we can do is whine down here.
any lawyers around who think we might have a case on our hands?
When do Nokia Messaging for IM final version for my 5800 Xm released?
We are still waiting since a month and 9 days!!! No update yet!!! When is this going to be released to public?
Nipu..
I don't understand...why is nokia so tight lipped on this? Why can't they give a date for the final version despite so many questions and comments?
It has bee around 2 months now since this post... Is there even any moderator or staff member to update us on this??? People r waiting u know??!!
Where is the production version of Nokia IM for N8.... it looks like wait of ages for me....
I am waiting now for a very long time ! When will the IM for Nokia released !?

After this loooooong wait, hope we will get something very good..... Think positive..
May know when nokia messaging for IM will be released?
Hi,
I am still anxiously waiting for the integrated Chat application on Nokia N8. It has been delayed a lot and must be released on urgent basis. Please integrate Facebook Chat also in the application. I would like it to have a dark background (even better if skins supported). Hoping to get the Chat app soon from Nokia. Please don't disappoint your fans !!
Cheers !!!
I have N97 from last 14 Months & waiting from the very beginning for IM on Nokia but unfortunately Nokia Production team is still unable to launch it.
I don't know what is stopping Nokia to do so as they already launched IM with other handsets.
And if this much is not sufficient to cover-up their major lapses then they should look in their internal team that they are enough capable to perform.
I am totally frustrated with this Set, i paid huge but got a DUMMY HARDWARE WITH 45 Degree TILT MONITOR. WHAT ABOUT SOFTWARE, SPEED AND APPLICATION??
Please realise soon!
this still hasnt been released, i feel as if i have been cheated by nokia, and my network provider, sold the nokia n8 and symbian 3 as nokia's answer to the iphone. you have no decent aps, cannot even download windows live messenger. there is no inbuilt chat as advertised on original marketing. im sure this is in sever breach of trading laws around the world!! i know for sure that trading standards in the uk false advertisement of a product is a criminal offense
also, surely it would of made more sense to of left the beta option available instead of leaving people without this option? surely by now this has been in so called production for some period of time it would be completed? or you could at least advise us of an expected completion date? once my contract has expired and i can upgrade to a new handset i think i will not be using nokia again very bad organization or device support very disappointed
This post was put up on the 15 november 2010.Today is the 5 march 2011...more then 3 months????? are you guys even releasing it this year ???

I'm sure that we hope an amazing IM app, to justify the delay
+1. What's so difficult? Why is it taking so long? Note that this app is been always shown as available in the support page, but at least for me it never appeared on Software update; now it's not even available in betalabs.
Nokia is not releasing its Chat application on Nokia N8 because it wants to promote third party apps like Skype and Fring. Why don't they come up with a great app like Social which can allow Chat, Voice and Video calls across IM service providers? Is it beacuse Nokia dosen't know how to make money from apps, like the Ovi Store platform? Are they better off getting millions of dollars from Third party software companies to promote their software over Nokia devices? Just hoping Nokia notices it and still waiting for a great IM app + Voice & Video calling from Nokia.
Its released.............
visit ovi store.....
http://store.ovi.com/content/75653
Correct, it has been released for S60 5.0 devices and available from Ovi Store. It is not yet released for Symbian^3 devices.
Thanks Tim for giving confirmation.........
FYI - official announcement blog http://blog.ovi.com/2011/03/17/get-the-latest-release-of-chat-for-nokia-...
It's not available from Ovi Store for the N97 mini. Any news about when it's going to be available for that phone?
Also, I've found an old version of it in my pc and installed it, but when i try to connect to gtalk it said "already logged in" and i haven't any of my accounts connected. Any possible solution?
Is it being developed for Nokia N8 as well or not?
Hello Williams,
Thanks for IM chat for N97. I have one suggestion that I really feel should be available in nokia IM chat. New chat IM alert/Notification tone setting as some time I am not able to hear the notification sound when I am out or in public place or at the time I am sleeping and miss some of my friend's chat or I notice them whenever I check my mobile.
There should be flexibility to set own IM alert tone as you are providing for Ring Tone, Message Tone and Email tones.
And it should save in E memory drive(Mass memory) as it consumes lot of space of C drive (Phone memory).
Thanks in advance.
Anil
Nokia had managed to make a barely functional Chat app, without the support for Facebook Chat and MSN. And now, the update to Nokia Chat for Nokia Symbian 3 has screwed up the app. Its stopped working. I have re-installed it countless times. But still no resolution. I don't understand how and update to the app can shut it down. Please roll back the release as many Nokia fans are facing this same issue. I hope you release some good basic functional software before releasing new handsets every month.
what about the N97 mini? We used to have the app for N97 mini (and other s60v5 touch screen phones) on betalabs, and then it suddenly vanished. Read on Ovi blog that you guys were waiting for the new firmware for N97 mini to come out. That's out now...so where's the client???
