Swype for Symbian beta adds language packs for French, German, and Polish
Mon, 2010-11-22 15:35The team behind the Swype for Symbian beta has today released three extra language packs: European French, German, and Polish. More languages will be added as they become available.
Before you install one of the new language packs, please ensure that the main Swype application is installed first, and that the phone's Writing Language fits with one of Swype's supported languages. Since Swype has its own language selection, the team recommends that you set the phone's Writing Language to English, then use Swype to change the language dictionary in use for writing.
As always, let the team know how things work for you when testing these languages in Swype.
Enjoy!

@nokia the link http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/swype-for-symbian/download_and_installation currently leads to a 404 error page.
I'm also looking for the German language pack (SwypeGermanDictonary v1.0.22959) - why has it disappeared from the Ovi store?

I tried to install German language support on my X7, procedure and language file as recommended by EskeRahn. When trying to switch to German, Swype says: "....oops your Deutsch directory needs to get updated to a newver version...". Then it launches the Ovi store but there is no version at all. Seems like this no longer works - or at least not for Symbian Anna.
This is very upsetting - I used German Swype on my C7. This is the only way for me to survive touchscreens. Although I like the X7, I will have to return it to the dealer, if there is no swype option.
I really don't understand the strategy here - first it is in Beta for over a year, seems to work fine, then a new phone gets released, and Swype and German is no longer supported, not even in Beta.
Nokia: Samsung and some other manufacturers include Swype (also with German language!) BY DEFAULT! I want to stay a Nokia user, but you seem to try everything to avoid that!
@tommyb
I can only agree with you!
From our end, as users, it seems completely nuts to close the beta, before the same language packs are available in release. The only one that has been added since release is Icelandic(!).
Had It been my choice I would have been going for one of the major languages previously available like German or Russian...
I'm guessing here: There might be an economic side of it. I don't expect Swype to give it away for free. I assume Nokia is paying 'something', to get a keyboard competitive with other platforms. And they might simply having difficulties in agreeing on a price for the specific languages packs??? But againg: I'm just guessing...
good packs
