Say hello to Soundtrckr, Geosocial Internet Radio

Guest-written by Daniele Calabrese from Soundtrckr.

This is part of a series in which Nokia is inviting the coolest application developers to showcase and pilot their apps at Nokia Beta Labs.

Hi,

We are really excited about bringing Soundtrckr, the first Geosocial Internet radio, to Nokia Symbian S^3 devices (and soon on S60 5th Edition) and make it available to the Nokia Beta Labs community. We'd like you to try out this beta version and give us feedback.

With Soundtrckr you can:

  • Listen to more than 8 million fully licensed songs - any artist, any genre, anytime
  • Create and share personal radio stations
  • Play music with friends in real time
  • Search your city for popular music and people with similar taste
  • Share your favorite stations on social networks

Soundtrckr brings to Nokia phones the social listening and music discovery experience, where friends share stations and listen together in real time. Soundtrckr is also leveraging the location-based-service capability of Nokia smartphones to hyperlocal listening and discovery. Users can tune into nearby stations created by other users, and play what’s hot around the city. Users can share stations via email, Twitter and with other Soundtrckr users using the app. We have also added a find and invite friends features that uses Twitter, Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, and AOL.

We want Soundtrckr to be the best internet radio experience on the Nokia platform and we need your help to make that happen. We look forward to hearing from you. Enjoy it!

"Awaiting 5th Ed Version"

5th edition coming to the Beta labs in 1-2 weeks stay tuned.

So, the question really should be "what have you got that Spotify Premium hasn't?"

We are free and you have to pay for Spotify. Equally important Spotify is an on-demand music streaming service whereas we are like Last.fm and Pandora but we the same big catalogue as Spotify. Look forward to your feedback

no 5th edition yet:-(

no 5th edition yet:-(

As I added in the suggestions, ditch the Java in favour of Qt, will offer much more reliability, speed and a more 'native' app! :P

I do like it.. maybe options for data usage and the sorts...

5th Edition is in the works. Will come soon 1-2 weeks as we are getting tremendous help from Nokia Engineers to address an issue with music streaming and s60 5th platform. Thanks for your patience

Another new app which is unavailable for S60 3rd...

S60 3rd edition is a very tough one for an app as complex as ours. Music streaming, location, social network, comments, all happening at the same time they do required a lot of power and pieces of OS software that are only present in Symbian ^3 and S60 5th edition for now

Sounds like semantics to me... We are more like last.fm etc. But with an free catalog of tracks, where spotify is a on-demand service... Okay, so if you're an internet radio your are more like nokia's own internet radio then? Where one can add external radio feeds/streams from broadcasters etc... Just like shoutcast on the old winamp... Or if the user can only pick from your library of free songs you are indeed much like spotify. Or the freee wikitunes....

Anyway welcome to betalabs, excpect to be thurly probed by an dedicated community

IIvo I see from you blog that you use Last.fm. We are like them, with a larger catalogue, but we geo and social features on mobile, more so than nokia radio app where broadcast channels are pre-existing and users can hook into them.

When is it coming for my Nokia 5800XM

Bah you're just like all the others.. but you're free.. and as long as you stay that way and manage a more solid app (Qt please!) i would say you'd get the upper hand :P

so how do i put this on my phone if its not in the ovi store n8

This isn't on Ovi Store because it's a beta, but you can download this and install on your phone following this link and downloading it directly from here: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/soundtrckr/download_and_installation

Click on "Show all downloads" and pick the file from there. Bye!

Guys this app should go to Alpha labs not Beta... Works very unstable and slow on my N8...

very nice, working fine on N8 ... but far away from being an internet radio ... let me suggest to stay away from that "name", it is pretty misleading and not giving all what's deserved to this app

on the other side just adding a random pick by a genre (random classical station or so) could satisfy a not so small niche of users

all in all a nice app

@danielle thanx for clearifying that, well radio implies predefined channels that you listen too... That's why I wondered if your internet radio was indeed that (even though with other features), so I take it I will not be able to add external internet radio stations then, such as say noagendastream...
Anyway I tip my hat for anybody who go to the length of checking my profile out, looking forward to test your product for 5ed platform...

(for those curious http://last.fm/user/iivocom is the profile ref. too in the reply)
