Please go ahead and try it out today and let us know what you think!
Many thanks,

Does this version provide a list of recently searched places? Haven't found it yet in earlier versions (except when you set your home place it can bring up the list of last searches)
Very good job Nokia on this new version!
Improvements in UI, very quicly, quickly GPS lock, better route calculation.
The "Update" possibility is very nice also.
Question, is the Voice over Bluetooth issue solved? I didn't tested yet :)
But in general, this is a very nice and stable version.
Is it possible to navigated directly to a contacts adress in this version again?
Is there an option that OviMaps jumps directly to "Map" when started, instead of presenting the Menu first?
Link to discussion forum does not work; so I use this place...
1) Compass points into wrong direction - about 20 degrees off to the west.
Happens if holding the N8 in a natural way: Almost horizontal.
Compass readings get better if holding the N8 vertical.
I guess there's a problem synchronizing compass and acceleration sensor data: Acceleration sensor does not work correctly; in landscape view you have to hold the device angled to the right (10 to 20 degrees) to achieve a zero reading.
I read about that problems at other places; seems the N8's sensors were not mounted correctly.
I also checked with other compass software (the old Offscreen Compass): Same error !
System tool for calibrating the sensors BADLY needed !
2) Still no GPS satellite display ! It's not enough having a red dot blinking or not. Please re-introduce the old satellite strength indicator - the one with the yellow and green bars !
This makes it far easier finding the source of reception problems.
BeSt1979: No, not possible. (At least I did not see it.)
Lorion84: No.
Two significant problems I find in the Ovi Maps UI in general -
1.) You can't pan around a planned route when viewing it. Just use that 'jump to next route point' function that is really irritating and not at all helpful. One needs to be able to see the route in context, and that only comes from panning. You can zoom in and out sure, but without panning it's hopeless. PLEASE sort this out! Surely this is just a UI tweak as zooming is already allowed in this view, you just need to allow panning too!
2.) It's WAY too easy to quit out of map view, or even navigation, and then have to start all over again, either finding the bit of map you were looking at, or replanning the entire route from scratch. Why oh why can't we simply go to menu, and unless we start a new route plan, or new map view, simply return to exactly what we were doing before!? And even if we quit out of the app entirely, be able to go right back to where we were before. It is such a pain having to replan...
Finally, what would be a great feature is to be able to actually drag planned routes when viewing the overview of them, around known black spots. There may be a section of a route that you know is always clogged and you want to avoid it. The easiest way to do this would be to allow dragging of that section of the route with one's finger when zoomed in a bit on that section of the route, to a different route. Google Maps on a desktop PC allows exactly this functionality and it is VERY useful. Ovi Maps should have this, and then remember that for next time - even better it should ask if you want to add it as a 'Known Blackspot' and share it with other Ovi Map users - i.e. crowd sourced black spot avoidance.
Only for S^3!!?? I have just installed it on my 5800 but I cannot find the new download maps feature?
Again apparently there will be no new versions of Maps (including this version) for existing Nokia phones on S60v3 (and possibly v5).
So this is only good news for people buying the very latest phones and bad news for anyone who bought a non S^3 phone in the last year.
Nice of you Nokia to leave those of us with S60 v3 high and dry. ..
You have to be friging kidding me betelabs!!! Could you at least write that this update is only for S^3 so far? I have found no where a note saying it is only for S*3! I think this very provocative and you need to fix this VERY fast.
Installed on 5800 and I am downloading the maps via the built-in update just now. So v5 is really supported.
Hmm @tehcaster that is strange. Where do you get to the maps downloader, could you please explain?
Perhaps I have downloaded the wrong version. I have v3.06 10w48 b01. Is this not correct?
Sorry to betalabs if I am mistaken.
Any news of when this will be available on N900? OVI Maps is still a joke and totally useless on the N900 even after more a year on the market.
The version for my old N95 is miles better than the latest on N900.
Nice one, i just installed my maps via wi-fi :)
but when for new map update?
because in my city are a lot of new streets, from about 10 months...

I just updated, and to my sad surprise.... maps for my country ( Honduras ) that had just been loaded to the server on november, can be found no more. Oh and, the install does a complete wipe, so... goodbye to the maps I already had. Nice.
If you can't see the "Update" icon after installing the latest version of Ovi Map 3.06, please report that you have the same bug as I do too

It will be extremely helpful that you list down your handset and f/w version too. That will help Betalabs staffs to work on the problem. Thank you
Kept rebooting my N8.
Maps 3.06 kept rebooting my N8. So where can I download 3.04 and revert back? All I can find is asking me to use Ovi Suite and it doesn't seem to provide any means to download and install Maps' system files only the Maps. Please help.
Thanks.
From what I read, the more Nokia come out with their new version of Ovi Maps the more problem it has. What happen Nokia? Why there is so much problem compare to those previous version like 3.03? I really don't understand, should it become more and more better & good.
Luckyly I did not update any version, still sticking to version 3.03. It serve me very good and don't to intend to update to the latest because very scare after reading so many problem.
To be fair, Ovi Maps 3.06 is still in beta version and I don't see no reason to bash it, better report the bugs instead. Ovi Maps 3.04 for instance, the stable version works nicely with very fast lock in time.
A lot of issues has been reported during the beta version of Ovi Maps 3.04 and when the final product was release, it very disappointed at least for me.
Do hope that's not going to happen to 3.06. As for the latest beta version of Ovi Maps 3.06, I do love to see the following feature are added in:-
1) Bring back the GPS signal bar
2) Junction View feature
3) Lane Assist feature
вот такой вопрос, а будет ли обновляться OVI MAPS для Nokia 5530 ?
I don't have wi-fi in my area.. neither is my phone connecting with my laptop.. I tried uninstalling and everything out there..
I installed this 3.06 ver of maps.. it said maps will not be deleted but they got deleted :( and now m here with version 3.06 and no maps.
Can you give link to download these maps (for India, it's 137 MB) which I can download and put in my phone with mass storage and get them installed??
I'm currently using Nokia 5800. Help me out :(
This has got to be the biggest improvement to date! A lot less lag now; thumbs up Beta Labs team
Seems faster, but where has the ability to change the icon of a place gone?
WiFi feature is brilliant!!
I have had the N8 rebooting problem with Maps 3.06 since installing it 2 days ago (Friday HKT). Factory Restore the N8 without deleting data last night seems to have corrected the problem. I was able to download and installed the map of Japan successfully this morning where it always rebooted the N8 before.
Just noticed last night that the Conversation SMS display mode does not display any conversation bubbles since Maps 3.06 and the Factory Restore did not help. Not sure if it is related though since it had been hours before the Maps 3.06 installation since the last time it was working. Might have to do a Delete Data and Restore after all. :-\
3.06 works great on my N8. I would like to see download of more POI's for off line use. There are not enough for off line and a lot of the time I can not go online to get POI's for destination. One other - when on route, have access to favorites.
Thanks - great gps
