Introducing Mobile Documents - Cloud-boosted push mail and push documents brought to you by Visiarc

Guest-written by Peter Lindgren from Visarc.

This is part of a series in which Nokia is inviting the coolest application developers to showcase and pilot their apps at Nokia Beta Labs.

Hi,

Say hello to the next generation of mobile email. Mobile Documents is the first and only to solve the #1 problem in email: handling of heavy attachments and documents. View and read heavy attachments instantly - without a download - via unconventional use of streaming technology. Save time, bandwidth and roaming cost. Traditional email offers download only but Mobile Documents offers an entire toolbox. On top of this we're trying to create the best possible user experience to manage emails on your phone including attachments as well as sharing documents.

We're very excited about releasing Mobile Documents here on Nokia Beta Labs. We like the idea to invite you all to engage using the forums and tools available. This first beta release is optimized for Symbian^3, but a version for S60 (3rd and 5th) will follow, so stay tuned. The Symbian^3 version includes two major new features:

  1. Multi-Touch: Pinch zoom for viewing images, PDFs and Office Documents
  2. Notifications: Home Screen Widgets for all your email accounts plus optional sounds and/or alerts for news emails and/or documents

We want to take the pain, wait and effort away from sharing and handling heavy attachments and documents on your Nokia phone. Download and test drive Mobile Documents today. We want your feedback. We're not feature-complete just yet. What do you miss the most? If you like Mobile Documents, let us know, and if you don't like it, let us know too. We'd like to hear why so that we can make Mobile Documents better.

Great app but why don't add this PDF viewer as an application to open PDF files from the phone? Adobe Reader on N8 works not fine because it hasn't pinch to zoom. I tried to open an *docx file with the application but it doesn't works. Hotmail not supported.

I think this application should replace the default email application of the N8 because I can't send email attachments that are bigger than 4 MB and you should add a good PDF and doc viewer for the N8 as the one that is integrated in Mobile Documents.

Welcome to the beta labs Peter. It's good to see another top symbian developer making the most of the beta labs.

Been using previous versions of the app for quite a while and it has many positive points.

Yes I liked the app but where is Home Screen Widgets in the app.

Re: sksinghno1

You add the Home Screen widgets using the native "Mail" widget. So do a long press on the Home Screen you want to place the widget. Then select an empty spot and then select from the list of Widgets (in my case just 'Mail'). Then a list with all email accounts set-up with Mobile Documents will be shown there.

Looks Interesting!! Waiting for S60v5 optimized one.....

Will you bring a s60v5 optimized version? this app looks damn interesting

I must admit this one of the best apps that I installed on my handset(n8) this should certainly replace the default mail client .The initial feel of the app is really good, some of the features those could make great improvement are:
Context menu for individual mail rather than opening it first and then perform the action, delete, reply, reply all , star .....Multiple deletes in single go is also missing
Number of days to retain the mail , looks default is 7 days I guess
Settings-> connection is always set to default connection even after changing the connetion settings

Nice one, updating to my N8 now. One more feature is required, if it can import all the email accounts and emails from the existing, then headache of setting the emails will not be there.

I have downloaded Mobile Documents from Betalabs and I don't get any further than entering my email address to sign up for a free beta invite. It's stuck at Checking user name. I have tried on both Wifi and 3G. I am on an N8.

I too can't get past the "Checking User Name". Tried both wifi and 3G connection. Maybe this is a problem by region? I'm in the US on AT&T.

I can't use it, doesn't matter whether I select demo or put in my email and submit it always ends up checking for username and does newer find one. So it just sits there searching for a username.

Is the service down or is it a beta bug?

I'm using a Nokia N8.

It works as a charme on my N8, and has been replacing the oem client mail definitively.

A thing I don't unerstand : I've received an SMS that told me I had a new mail, Mobiledocument were closed.
It should be nice to be able to be aware by sms instead of connect and suck the batery.
Is someone now something about how it works ?

This would keep me from switching back to BB

when are you planning to bring the s60v5 optimized one?will the current version work on 5800?

This sounds great! I've been looking for an alternative to mail for exchange on my N97 mini for a while.

Is Visarc part of Nokia? It's not clear if Mobile Documents will be a free download when the final version is released.

I downloaded the apps..but problem with signup it's showing checking username, since i already have an account with mobiledocuments, and iam using N8..pls help me out

I'm not going to bother downloading this app, it seems TOO many people can't get past the checking username thus making the app unusable. Good idea but needs a couple more improvements to iron out the bugs. Good idea tho and i look forward to future releases..

I installed the apps but i can't singin .

very good application .Please release a version for nokia 5800 .

Hi,
I would be pleased to test this application on my N8, but from 10 or 15' minutes I was blocked on "Requesting an invitation"... is it Normal ?

(AM I right, I click on DEMO - no real other choice - and enter my Email adress - the same as NBL account -... but without success)

Do we need to reboot the phone after installation ? (sorry for novice question)

All the best for 2011 to all the Nokia community
best regards,

Why not just give us working push mail and documents > 2MB for the N8 instead of "the magic cloud application" ? Would appreciate that...

Can't get past the login screen. Shame!

without doubt is the best application for mobiles, using different email accounts, the only thing is being unable to upload a file from the phone to send or not I have the user manual to do so.

My best regards

please bring hotmail/live mail support pls .... its not that tough...

Exchange client works now fine on N8. Good work, But plz improve the Exchange abilities for accepting meeting invitations from MS EX.
Every other smartphone can handle these invitations. Nokia seems to be the only who dont support such a usefull feature.

Keep on the good work

I try to setup my gmail account and I can't get it working. Every time the message Connection Error. I've used the "simple" installation.. My OVI account works fine. Please help! (IMAP is enabled, I use it on other devices)

Besides that the standard email widget does not show the accounts managed by MD...

I downlaoded and installed Mobile Documents 0.9.21 BETA on my E71 , I have 2 yahoo mails , the program is working great with one of them but for the other mail it does not syncronize at, how ever I can see the folder list, but unfortunatly empty folders only.
