Photo Browser trial concluded; app remains available
Tue, 2011-03-08 09:51Many of you have been asking about the status of Photo Browser and looking for closure to this experimental beta trial. Although there hasn't been much activity on the Photo Browser beta site, behind the scenes Nokia has been listening to your feedback and integrating it to the latest generation of the gallery application (called Photos on most phones). At the same time, the Photo Browser has fostered some exciting side projects. You can experience the fast browsing and elegant visualization of Photo Browser in Nokia Big Screen now in Beta Labs.
In short, development of photo browser ideas continues, but it's time for Photo Browser to exit from Nokia Beta Labs.
As one of our most popular experimental betas, Photo Browser has demonstrated beta users loved the simple and fast browsing, 3D visualization, and magnifying glass zoom proposed by the app. The response to this experimental project has been great and has definitely made an impact on the decisions around the gallery application. When a new version of the gallery application is ready for public beta trial (no date planned yet), we'll let you know.
The application continues to be available in Ovi Store for those that want to use it.

that nokia big screen is for s^3 will it be avilable for s60v5? in near future?
@kintesh - Check this thread for an explanation why Big Screen doesn't work on S60v5:

nokia big screen is not available for s60v5,nokia has already forgotten s60?
@ylbicekus - I'd suggest poking around the Big Screen forum to learn more about the issues involved and what the development team's point of view is. For example, S60v5 phones don't have HDMI output nor support for multiple screens (device + TV), so porting Big Screen to S60v5 isn't a straightforward task.

@markow76 - everything is possible if you move big screen project to another third party company. also reprogram and make brand new firmware for s60v5 phone rather then updates in current firmware. :)
please dont tell me that is is not possible to make a new firmware for s60v5 phones like 5800.. i mean you guys got all the data sheets and blue prints of every s60v5 models so can make it.
People, stop with the Symbian^1 whining, please.
Those devices do NOT have HDMI output, so there's no way they'd ever work in pre-Symbian^3 models.
Just to share my memories...
Photo Browser was the first and only beta I installed for a long time, and I was very impressed at the time.
I saw its followers grow week by week and they would have continue if the trial period wasn't expired.
I hoped that a new version would have been made to match the Symbian^3 phones capabilities, and also noticed some of its legacy in Music Player's cover flow.
So it's a pity for me to see it dismissed, and I really hope to see something similar in the future, and still remain sure that even if some of its features were integrated in other apps (really? I cannot see them) most of the people would have installed it just because it was good (and needed very little effort to make it perfect or at least an "Ovi Store complete app" instead of the same beta app of this site), also because projects like Big Screen are for the HDMI elite or have other requests to be satisfied.
I hope to see another valid project like this (or a "Photo Browser - Episode 2") soon!
Enough of sentimentalism, keep up the good job!
does anyone have saved the installer for this app?? this app is really cool.. i need the installer in case my phone is formatted..
@muiz6849 - It's here: http://store.ovi.com/content/3612

i've just used this app and i love it, the way i can see all my photos in an instant. the only con i have with it is the lag when you hit the image and the time it appears 100% clear, everything else is perfect
how can i go back to menu from this app?
@Mackleinton - If you long-press anywhere you get the option to Exit the app.

It doesn't show up for S60 3rd ed.
At least not for my E71 - however I used this app on my E71 from here.
(edit: "used", 'cause I had to reset my phone and just managed to reinstall everything - except this cool app)
Is it really like it was compatible while it was beta, but the "final" version stopped supporting those models?
So... is the commercial version in Ovi is s60v3 compatible, like this betalabs version was?
Thx.
Photo Browser sees about 10% of my all photos in my C7 mass memory. Useless!
integrate it with the phone os in our next update but without any bugs. make it load faster with other editing functionalities.
ola a los del laboratorio experimental de nokia les queria pedir que por favor en nombre de todos los fanaticos de nokia que creen una version completa para symbian s60v5 porfavor
