Nokia Beta Labs updated design: New. Blue. You.
Mon, 2011-03-28 15:24Like the trials that we host, Nokia Beta Labs itself is always trying to improve based on the feedback from the community and from developers running trials here. Today, we have unveiled a new "look" for our site, designed to make the experience of participating in beta trials more personal and more enjoyable. Thanks for your patience during today's service break.
New. Blue. You.
First, we've cleaned up the not-signed-in homepage dramatically to clarify to any first-time visitors what we're about and what kinds of trials we host here.
Likewise, we've developed the signed-in homepage to be even more personal. On the left you'll see the list of My Trials which is equivalent to your 'download history' at Nokia Beta Labs. This list includes short status updates and shortcuts to give feedback about the apps you are currently trying. As you try out apps they will be added here, and any app you previously marked as a Favorite will be migrated here. If you're not interested in the beta trial any longer or want to cancel related surveys, go ahead and remove it from the My Trials list.
On the right side, you'll see New Apps compatible with the devices in your profile. If something looks interesting go ahead and try it out. If not, say 'no thanks'. Either way, the list will be updated to show other apps to try, if available. This way you shouldn't miss out on any new trials.
Throughout the site, at the top, we've introduced a blue profile bar that notifies you of new responses to your posts (i.e. what you can get email notifications about too) and may propose some actions to get more value out of the site.
We've also simplified the profile page a bit with fewer settings (accessible by clicking your profile image).
Lastly, we took this opportunity to bring stronger Nokia blue branding to the site.
Note that these changes apply mainly to the homepage and overall framework of the site, but have limited impact on the app pages and feedback forums. Development on those will come later.

Congratulation with the design revamp, it looks nice overall.
More 'thought through' design and less 'ad-hoc'.
Also a nice 'modern touch'
And the light blue status bar, is a good improvement also.

But I'm a little surprised that a total design revamp didn't include handling of modern screens larger than the archaic 1024x768.
I would have appreciated at least some skins, so I could use more than half the screen. I got a 1920x1200 monitor, and that generates VERY wide blue borders on the sides.
But your site are definitely not alone on the 1024 issue, so I'm kind of used to these extremely huge borders.

I like the Nokia Blue but not the new Font. It looks weak.
The site looks more professional & easy to navigate. Great work.
Agree with @EskeRahn about Screen Resolution. A good amount of screen space is getting wasted with wide blue borders.
Also i am missing the new posts by others shown in fav apps in the previous version. Now to find new posts has become hard and time consuming. Will be great if that is brought back.

Thanks guys! We'll keep following the performance issues and optimize where we can. We'll also gather all suggestions for consideration in future releases.
@guerrahp - We haven't yet started using the new Nokia Pure, but it's on our to-do list.

The design is good but it is wery slow and meny off the shortcuts are not working, I don´t know is it something with adressing or is it with IE9, so I have difficult to use it, please check this then there can be something to see if it is a good one.
Nice improvement, but for some things the previous version was more immediate: from the home there was the possibility to know immediately if there were new blog posts and new topics or replies in the app forums.
The "new replies" bar is a nice addition, maybe a future version will include the best of past and present.
Glad to see that the login bug is still there! ;-)
Whilst the site looks great....why is the home page broke. I have only been able to get here by googling the page directly :-(

Hello friends of Nokia Beta Labs.
As a lover and owner of a Nokia N8, come make a request that is not only mine, but several owners N8 here in Brazil.
Due to the focus of the unit to be focused primarily on the quality of your camera in very strange lack of applications written for you dedicated to photography.
We would like very much, for example, an APP Instagran similar to the famous (and made just for Iphones Andriods) for our powerful N8. You bet it would make a huge success. In addition, we would not have to resort to third-party APP for it.
Certainly not lacking for Beta Labs is competencies.
So we are eagerly awaiting.
