Try out the new and improved Nokia Ovi Suite 3.1 Beta

Written by Anu Koskinen, Nokia Ovi Suite team

A new version of Nokia Ovi Suite is now up for grabs (available since Friday).

When working on this latest version, we’ve focused on improving the quality. As our main goal is to bring Nokia Ovi Suite onto a new level of reliability, we’ve now picked only a few select features to be added.

ovi suite software update

We’ve enhanced key parts of Nokia Ovi Suite to make sure they are easy and efficient to use. For example, updating your phone software and mobile apps takes place more easily and you can now update both in one go. What’s more, when you choose to download something from Ovi Store through Nokia Ovi Suite, the download link is sent to your phone. You can then go on to download the selected item directly to your phone. This saves some of your valuable time and there’s no need to open a web browser on your desktop anymore.

Then there are the new additions. You can see the results of your latest sync in the Sync log view. The results include all the details that were added, updated or deleted during the sync, in addition to the information where each of these changes took place. Keeping track of your map downloads is now easier than before, too, as you can view your download queue by clicking Downloads in the Maps view. And, if you feel that sending text messages to groups is something you’ve been missing, you’ll probably be happy to know that creating contact groups is possible in the Contacts view. Sending messages to all the members of a specific group is then simple to do in the Messaging view.

We’ve been busy getting Nokia Ovi Suite to work with greater reliability. Creating the connection between your phone and computer and syncing content between the two have been improved with critical fixes. You might also like to check out the fine-tuned playback of high-definition videos. Playing your videos with Nokia Ovi Suite is now smoother and nicer than ever before.

Any feedback on Nokia Ovi Suite is greatly appreciated, so if you’d like to share your ideas for improvement or describe what makes you happy, tell us what’s on your mind.

Hi , I wish that you add installing apps directly from Ovi Suite next update, most of N8 and C7 have ovi store problem and it will be better to manage apps from ovi suite , just add app tab or store tab beside maps and messaging and all other features....

I know a lot of N8 owners have Ovi Store problem and tried all solution but can make it work again,, so please try to figure out where is the problem and release a fix for it or add store tab to ovi suite

Hi there,
OVI suite has still two major issues:
- installation of software from OVIstore streight into phone, even if phone does not have internet connection,
- internet connection for the phone through PC which is connected to internet.

Cheers,
Ralf

Hi MhmdYousri - we're investigating, how we could improve apps installation experience from Ovi Store in future Nokia Ovi Suite versions.

Have you reported your issus about Ovi Store with Nokia N8 and Nokia C7 to correct channels? I presume you Ovi Store device client here?

@rafalsl could you elaborate this in discussion forum "internet connection for the phone through PC which is connected to internet."? What issue do you have there?

Mr. saylinen

Even if i solved my Ovi Store problem and it's working again , i still think that is a great idea to add store to Ovi Suite

Thanks for your time

i have downloaded this beta version but it is not able to sync contacts and calendar entries,it stops responding everytime i try to sync my contacts and calendar entries.also please release a MAC version of OVI SUITE soooon...i am glad that you released Software Update for Mac,but there is serious need of a MAC Ovi Suite.

May I suggest to extent the calendar feature to just manage phone calendar entry from the OVI suite with sync'ing with outlook. it will be great help for us when we work from the computer and we do not have an outlook. You did that for contact and mail.

thank you.

dhruv198620 - If you have an antivirus program, try turning it of.
Turn of Ovi Suite from File -> Exit
Then dissconnect phone from PC.

Then when AV program is turned of, restart Ovi Suite, connect phone and try sync again.

If it does not help, try rebooting phone and computer.
First turn off antivirus
Then start Ovi Suite, then connect phone. And try and sync

Some AV programs scan Ovi Suite and its actions (mostly when syncing it seems) so hard that Ovi Suite locks up. and sometimes a reboot of the computer is needed to release whatever files Ovi Suite uses to run. Sometimes a simple restart of the programs does not do it.

one program I know does this is F-secure .. but seen it with Symantecs progs as well..

Still missing major features PC Suite had. Not possible to sync messages...you call it syncing, but is a one-way copy

Cant export and import contacts to CSV files.

No calender.

Additionally, since Windows 7 does not have an e-mail client, and most people dont buy Outlook, Why not add support for Windows Live Mail?

I agree with Judaz. We NEED PC Suite functions like export and import contacts.

Would be nice to be able to:
* set ringing tones to contacts from OVI Suite.
* view and manage data files/documents.
* set speed dials from within OVI Suite.
* automatically control syncing direction between phone and pc (OVI Suite) in case of Contacts syncing conflict instead of one-by-one as the case is presently.
* export/import contacts to csv and/or xls file format for use with other programs.

how come no new software updates for nokia 5250 its piss me off. pls somebody should help me
