Up and down, to the side - how do YOU use Drive?
Wed, 2011-05-18 13:56Hi all,
If you use Drive navigation, we’d love to know which view you prefer: Landscape or Portrait (your phone either horizontal or vertical). And more importantly, why do you like one more than the other?
Take a minute for our survey and let us know what you think!
Our design team would also like to thank those who participated in the last Drive navigation survey – your input was very helpful and much appreciated.
Best,
The Ovi Maps Team

to the side, but anoying is the calling screen not available in lanscape mode on the N8
Survey taken!
I suggest also a survey about this new Maps organization: the widget is great, but the good old Maps button in the menu that brings to the old grid scheme would be really appreciated by many users!
@steceso - Here's the survey we ran earlier about just that:

Sorry, I just missed it, thanks for reminding!
Well, the one above would have been my answer.
:-)
By the way, which is that survey's result at the moment?
Regards!
Hi John!
Survey taken.
If I well remember you already asked it :)

@navio1973 - Good memory! Now the team would like to understand more about the reasons people use one or the other.

Sideways. Because the vertical position obscures too much of the driving view. (XM5800 with its screen suction holder)

Stays great vertically in the cupholder.
I primarily use id in Landscape mode. But sometimes Portrait is better, since you have a 'longer perspective' of the future route.
Perhaps allow the position of the actually position to be moved down, so a larger portion of the screen holds the future route, and less the previous route. But do it dynamically! So DURING turns/forks etc. let it be at the centre of the screen, and during driving move it downwards to less 'history' and more 'future'.

Up and Down, to the side.... I HAVE AN N900 and you all from betalabs should be shamed for not providing me Ovi Maps... I am always and will be always an nokia fan, the n900 is awesome in many aspects, but I LOVE OVI MAPS... shame shame on you all, beta labs guys :(
And I really use by side =P
Both of your photos show, how the phone should *not* be located. The holder and the phone should be lower, so that they don't block the view. Now a pedestrian or a cyclist easily hide in the blind sector behind the phone.

@Fonero
You are absolutely right.
You could get a fine, if you mount it this way in Denmark...
The new ovi maps is not correct at the borneo island; city: kota kinabalu, sabah, malaysia. The street is not on the land. It is on the sea water. Very old OVI maps on 5800 was ok before.
Stays great vertically in the cupholder too.
In this position there are too much view space on the center of the front window.
I supposse that is personal preference, ok?
I don't understand the point of this survey. Ovi Maps should work in both portrait and landscape modes. It should be up to the user which mode they choose. Why waste time with a trivial issue like this?
How about fixing the bugs? How about adding the features that everybody has been asking for, like search by street intersection, bluetooth and FM output, and satellite status indicator?
Ovi Maps with free downloadable maps is the strongest feature of Nokia phones. You can only get downloadable maps for Android and iPhone if you pay a monthly fee. The Maps Team should focus on fixing the bugs and adding the features that we have been begging for them to add for months.
If only I was the CEO of Nokia. I would make things happen...
For surveys, I'd prefer <a href="http://www.surveyprof.com" title="Free online survey tool for students">Survey Prof</a>. It's free, easy and written for students.
