Ovi Store is now powered by Nokia Drop
Fri, 2011-08-26 15:48Very exciting news from the Nokia Drop team!
We proudly announce that Ovi Store is now powered by Nokia Drop. Store has integrated our service to their web experience and offers now a more user-friendly way to send applications, themes, ringtones etc. to your phone. This integration means also that you don't need the browser extension plugin to use this new Store web experience and you don't need to wait for an SMS before installing an app.
For example, if you have selected automatic mode from the Drop client, free application installations are started right away after downloading completes. This Store web experience supports Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer browsers and is currently offered as an optional beta for those of you who want to try it out.
Also, all previously introduced browser extension features continue working as before in Firefox and Chrome.
So please visit on our Beta Labs pages for more information and download the new client (sign-in required)!
I want to also take the opportunity to thank you all who have supported us and given continuous feedback from the field and again we’d highly appreciate your feedback concerning this feature update.

Update 29.8.2011 - Ovi Store needed to roll-back to an earlier version on the weekend due to issues with web layout, and this also affected Nokia Drop. So please be patient, investigations are ongoing and needed actions will be done to fix this problem as soon as possible. Due to this problem we have temporary disabled Nokia Drop experience from Store web site. This is not affecting to browser extension features. Those are working as before in Firefox and Chrome.
Update 01.09.2011: Store feature in Nokia Drop is now enabled again. Java content download is still on hold, but will be released soon. Known issues are also listed in More Info page.
Update 27.9.2011: Java content downloading enabled and bug fix done in extension (after session was exprired, user was not able to send drop at first try). All old release notes can be found from: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-drop/more_info#releases

Amazing !!
Wow! Ovi Store is becoming on par with Android Market! Wireless app installation betwen your PC! Very cool! Suggestion: Although paid apps are not yet available in the Philippines, add support for installation of paid apps from PC to phone by having the payment first on the Ovi Store on the PC browser and after a sucessfull payment, you offer the customer an option to sync and install the app wirelessly over-the-air. One click and apps and games are installed. Or what could be better if it AUTOMTICALLY syncs and installs without requiring a single click from the user.
Scenario:
1. Customer browse apps.
2. Customer likes an app and proceeds to the payment on Ovi Store on PC.
3. Payment sucessfull. Customer will see a message... "Payment successfull! Wait for your app to be automatically installed on your phone. Thank you for purchasing at Ovi Store!"
P.S. Please bring paid apps to Ovi Store here in the Philippines.
I ♥ Philippines!

How about a version of Safari for Mac?
have you tried with safari? store.ovi.com should work with safari
For me, the left option when you press "send to phone" sends it via SMS, and not via push.
What am I missing?
Hi!
Do you have Nokia Drop application (version 1.2 or 1.3) online on the phone and are you signed in with same credentials in Store web and Nokia Drop client in the mobile?

Thats nice, and long awaited. Thumbs Up!
But whats with some sorting and selections?
I d like to have selection for LANGUAGE, REGION
as well as DO NOT SHOW and INSTALLED.
Please also show the verison and the date of the APPS in the OVI TSORE
Cool, now do a version for the N9, OK?
Why is Nokia 5233 not in the "Choose your handset" drop-down list on this website?
Well done!
I used it without realizing the change. Great to be able to install directly from the Ovi Store.

I have the same problem as uKER. I just can't get it to work. The only option I get is to send the link via SMS. I am both logged-in on the phone and on the store.
Yeah, no option to send to phone. Only SMS and Download on PC available for me. I have Nokia Drop installed and running.
I would love to try this, but I am on the Firefox BETA program and currently have FF v7.0. Nokia drop does not work with this. Perhaps you guys could take a look and let me know when it does so I can test for you.
Cheers...
Re the comments from raptor2k7 & uKER above, please see the following from the Drop page:-
Note 27.08.2011:
Store faced some difficulties yesterday with web layouts and they needed to do roll-back to the earlier version. This roll-back affected to also Nokia Drop. So please be patient, investigations are ongoing and needed actions will be done to fix this problem as soon as possible.
Due to this problem we have temporary disabled Nokia Drop experience from Store web site. This is not affecting to browser extension features. Those are working as before in Firefox and Chrome.
Well... I know the new link-method is much more user-friendly, but it is hell to debug if something stops working. Since you have no way of getting the version that worked once.
I much prefer to use the /download option behind the url, like this
http://store.ovi.com/content/58438/download
So I can keep a copy of the file actually installed, to be used if/when I need to reinstall something.
AND it also allows the user to do the transfer over USB, which is a great benefit if the phone isn't connected through WiFi and you don't have a flat-rate data-plan.
Why not have some kind of account setting for OviStore download-button allowing you to select one of
* Plain file (/download method)
* Push link by SMS (old method)
* Push link for NokiaDrop (new method)
It would more flexible in allowing the user to select the preferred method of their choice. And since all three methods already exists technically, it is MERELY a settings-issue, not a question of new functionality.

Opera browser support?
Update 01.09.2011: Store feature in Nokia Drop is now enabled again. Java content download is still on hold, but will be released soon. Known issues are also listed in More Info page.

Still not working on Firefox 6. With or without the add-on, there is only the SMS function available on Ovi Store.

@meegja
It works just fine, also with FF6. So it is not a general problem.
Try to do a little searching hear for your specific issue:
