Nokia Sleeping Screen available in Nokia Store – Beta trial concluded

Today we have made Nokia Sleeping Screen screen available for download from Nokia Store. Which means that now more people than ever can decorate their otherwise black phone screens with beautiful graphics, their own pictures, or useful notifications. 

Sleeping Screen is the product of a project at Nokia Research Center. It began as an exploration into low-power technologies for "always-on display" applications. After a while the team decided that the best way to validate the technology and get user feedback is to build a customizable low-power screen saver application for Nokia smartphones equipped with OLED displays. In the end we were able to show that, in addition to being desirable from the user perspective, always-on screen savers are also feasible in terms of power management. 

Towards the end we came to the conclusion that the best way to take Sleeping Screen forward is to distribute it as an add-on application via Nokia Store. So after an eventful six months in Nokia Beta Labs, we're concluding the beta trial. 

We really appreciate all the reviews, bug reports and comments that that you have made. It's very rewarding to work with such an enthusiastic community. Thank you! Sometimes the sheer amount of feedback has been overwhelming for our small research team, so please forgive us if we haven't been able to respond to your contribution. A special thanks goes to our most active users josecalvog, heineoen and krisq. Update 14.10.2011: To force the update of Nokia Sleeping Screen from beta to Store version, use "Send to phone -> Download on PC" option at the web store.

Update 17.10.2011 - We have disabled downloading from Nokia Store because many users experienced difficulties installing Sleeping Screen via the Nokia Store mobile client. We have identified the problem, are fixing it and hope to have Sleeping Screen available from the Nokia Store later this week. Meanwhile it can be downloaded from Nokia Beta Labs as before. We're sorry for the inconvenience.

Update 19.10.2001 - Nokia Sleeping Screen is again available for download from Nokia Store.
