Nokia Maps Suite 2.0 graduated!

Hi All,

Nokia Maps Suite 2.0 is commercial! Thanks to everyone who tried it out and gave feedback. As always, it was extremely helpful. You played a key role in directly improving Nokia Maps and  we sincerely appreciate the time and effort you all put in. We couldn’t have done it without you!

For those who haven’t tried it yet, here are some of the features you’ll get with Nokia Maps Suite 2.0:

Nokia Maps: Now with just a long press on your map, you can access walk, drive and public transit routing, which will guide you to your destination. If you like your maps to be uniquely yours, you can turn on “photos” in the Maps app to see all your geo-tagged pictures from your phone’s gallery placed on your map in the places they were taken. Next time you want to tell someone about a trip you had, just open the map and take them where you want and show them what you saw!

You are at a new neighborhood and want to have lunch? The Places widget will help you to find out what’s around you, or tell you more about your current location, right from your home screen. It will share the reviews from respected guides and reviewers like Lonely Plant, via Michelin, Time Out, Qype and more. You can save the place for another visit, and share the details with your friends as well. And if you are planning to use Nokia Maps in a different country, remember to download the country maps via WiFi so that you can continue enjoying Nokia Maps without worrying about data costs.

Nokia Drive: Even everyday things like getting around by car are improved thanks to a larger, easier-to-view map. A narrower dashboard means a larger map view in landscape mode. So it’s easier to navigate when you’re behind the wheel. The route planner is back by popular demand, letting you create custom routes and start points along with the ability to save favorite routes and sync them between your phone and computer.

For our UK users, new Voice Search lets you get directions simply by speaking, so you can now navigate hands-free! Tap on the microphone icon next to the search box and speak your destination. Voice Search will be available for more countries and languages soon. We also continue to provide you offline navigation – all you need to do is to download the maps for the country or region via WiFi to enjoy Drive without worrying about data costs.

Public Transport: With the new Nokia Public Transport app, all you need to do is to type out your destination, and you are set to go! The app shows the nearest public transport departures to your destination, so you can choose the one that is the most convenient for you – the app will guide you there. The navigation is literally door-to-door, so you will truly feel like a local even if it is a city that you are visiting for the first time! The app will tell you how to walk up to the right stop, which bus, tram, underground or train to take, which stop you have to get down and will lead you right to your destination. Line information lets you know how many stops you’ll pass along the way. You can even save frequent commutes to your favorites and check departure times for any stop on your route. Currently, we have real-time routing for Berlin; timetable based routing for 88 cities across the world, and estimated routing for 460 cities worldwide.

These are some of the great features that we have as part of the new Nokia Maps Suite. Download the new Nokia Maps Suite directly on your Belle smartphone or via Nokia Store, and let us know what you think of it!

hello guys, you did a great job as always, my N8 is always more powerful.
I found an interesting http://www.ionroad.com/. You think you can develop for Belle, Carla ... of such software or help programmers to port our Nokia?
It would be great to drive with an assistant to help with your maps and Nokia Car Mode.

What I find a bit irritating is the fact, that neither the Suite nor any of its components show up under "installed apps".
So there seems to be no way to uninstall single components (e.g. Public Transport or Weather) like it was possible all the way through the different Beta versions, right?
That is a big drawback imho, as the Suite still eats up a lot of memory on C: but there's no way to get some of it back.
I can still see all the components via Nokia Suite, but there's no way to uninstall them that way.
Is this strange new behavior by intention? And if so: why is there no word on this?
I really appreciate all your work, as I really love Maps/Drive and it's good to see that there is still life in Symbian. But as you know from all the comments here for all the different Betalabs apps, free memory is and always was one of the major problems.
So I really hope there is still a way to uninstall some of the components (besides resetting the phone and don't install the Suite again afterwards).

Regards,
Michael.

Hi, I have 3.09 12wk09 b05 installed.
That was the latest version from betalabs.

If I search maps from nokia store, I get no hits.
The direct link on original post works, but nokia store says that I already have the latest one installed.

So is my version the latest one?
And if not, how to update to the latest one?

I'm not sure if it's related, but after updating, the compass no longer works. I have Nokia 701.
Okay...I'm an idiot. Forgot to activate my location. Compass works fine now.

My c7 and n8 too tell me, thr installed betslabs version is the same the one in store.

More shame on the drvrlopers, it serms to be located on rare c: despite config all to mass memory

HELP

This is rather annoying. WHERE IS THE UNINSTALL OPTION? It is not in INSTALLED APPLICATIONS anymore.

Anyone looking for this. It is in Software Updates via Nokia Suite.

A) I hate GUIDES. I do not want GUIDES. No way to UNINSTALL IT After this UPDATE. Really STUPID! It is taking up more than 3MB of my C or more. Why Nokia has LIMITED C. I do not know!

B) I want non-essentials like PUBLIC TRANSPORT in E:\ which we used to be able to do.

By Uninstalling/Moving these apps.... I gain 10MB in my C which is 100% essential. Now, my C is 27MB FREE. VERY LOW!

MAIL for EXCHANGE is USIGN C too.

Nokia needs to GET THEIR HEADS and MOVE EVERYTHING TO E:\

Which is HUGE in GB SIZE!

For me I receive an error saying Can't finish installing just now. Please try again later. And also did not receive the update through software update on my Nokia C7 Belle and Nokia Suite? When clicking in the Nokia Store it says launch and not update when I clearly only have the regular Nokia Maps 3.08, not even maps suite beta installed.

I upgraded via OTA and have the version as noted below(rebooted after install). I have two bugs to report: 1) Drive, while navigating a route, when i flip the phone to landscape, the map display area turns black, switch back to portrait and map comes back. 2) street names during navigation do not display correctly, they appear as black lines.

Hi, the Nokia Maps Suite 2.0 graduated can be used in a X6?

after updating to the latest version, Nokia Store always crashes whenever I access the Nokia Belle status bar. When I uninstalled Maps Suite, Nokia Store stopped crashing. fMobi, SymPape, and many other Qt apps started crashing when I access the status bar after installing Maps Suite 2.0. I wonder what causes the problem?

Nice one...

@neil.fsc Same here (N8 Belle). My N8 even crashed shortly after I first installed the Suite (final) via Nokia Suite. Just a black screen and no respond at all. I had to long press the power button to get it back to life.
I had no more crashes afterwards, but the status bar problem persists (tested with the Store app & fMobi).

When I tried to visited the link (http://store.ovi.com/content/265481), the app store inside my phone declared that I already have the nokia maps version 3.0.95. I did not participate in the beta, so I was always using the normal version. What version should I have?

Here the weather just shows that it's raining all the time.

guys... It "sounds" great but I've been trying to install it on my n8 only to find the Nokia store link shows a launch button instead of the download button. Do i have to uninstall and then install? I mean what the hell? On a totally unrelated topic... Customer service for the store is kinda sucky. Tried to contact them twice this month and they did not contact me.

betalabs: what you did with all the feedback talking about problems of stability and lag when Nokia Maps Suite is installed on Memory Phone? Almost 30MB less on my memory phone would not help in terms of usability and stability on my Smartphone, just for the fact that I can't uninstall some components that I don't need and they are on my Memory Phone (Public Transport, Guides). It doesn't help at all on smoothness and decent responsiveness on UI.
For other hand, I'm happy to see a final version for such a good app for Belle. It would help a lot more flexibility on the options about installation, that's all.

Where is the my location widget in this new version? Is this a stand alone download in the future? My homescreen is a bit bare without it.

Lots of problems with this update!

1. Installation over the air on my Nokia 701 failed and then it didn't let me try to install it again. Instead I had to use Nokia Suite.

2. I think a few apps are missing from the Suite although I cannot be sure of it.

3. Maps cannot be detected by Nokia Suite so I cannot download more maps for offline use that way.

4. A few widgets are missing; the Places widget is there but the My Location widget does not exist. The Weather app installed but the Weather widgets are missing.

5. Now the Nokia Store client regularly crashes and I have noticed it does when I try using the pull down notification bar. This is ridiculous. Also, this happens in many other apps that use the pull down notification bar.

6. There should be a way to delete different parts of the Suite instead of just the whole package, although this is not as bigger issue as the other issues.

I have noticed other users with the same problems so I think that this really needs to be fixed up for use. The ironic thing is that the beta version worked fine!!

Solution found! Scroll down to the bottom of this post.

Please help! I'm visiting New York City and have to use paper maps now! I tried installing an older beta version and also restoring my device from
backup from the time everything was working, but nothing helped.

Found solution! Downloaded files from here (Mediafire):
http://forum.dailymobile.se/index.php?action=printpage;topic=68566.0
(Thanks, bernarduk09!)

Then copied the files to the memory card in the phone (F: drive). From there, copied files to C and E drives using FileBrowser.

How can they even declare this as stable version ? It crashes every single QT app on pulling down notification bar. Places nearby widget isn't showing any info. GPS position takes more time to get a fix but even then it doesn't show perfect position. Beta version which I was using before was much more stable. Now I can't even uninstall this so called stable version which messed up my phone including C: drive's memory.

I had been an avid Nokia fan since I started using mobile phones. But now it seems like they want me to regret my decision when a day passes by.

That problem with the crashing apps can be solved as follows:

1) install qtquickcomponents-1.1-for-anna-belle.sis (included in qt sdk) (or here: http://code.google.com/p/lionsudoku/downloads/detail?name=QtQuickCompone...)
2) deinstall it
3) be happy, no crashing qt apps anymore when accessing status bar

edit: don´t know if everything in the maps suite will work then (as qtquick was included there), but future will show ;)

What happening with cyprus maps u forget us

Mmm, starting to wonder if this is what's eating my N8's C drive?

I have not found any way to use the route planner on my N8.

Do you have to plan routes on the Maps website and then sync?

Martin

@silverhermes if you are running the latest maps then open "Maps" (not drive) on the phone and long click on a location and select "add to route". That starts the route planner. Or like you say you can create on the web and sync to the phone.

People get sometimes latitude and longitude points of places. I cannot see any tool to mark them as favorites in Nokia maps in my phone. I have sw version 2.0.

Since update I can't downloads neither maps nor voice guidance! The Map Loader over WiFi returns with some Server problem (cannot find maps on server) and Nokia Suite says that I am offline when I try to download some maps... but I am online!

May be Nokia changed the server and forgot to update this in this update...???

Best regards,

SR

i update my nokia maps via OTA.the problem is why am the only one here who got the map version of 0.2.44.110 instead of 0.2.45.110 just what others have.am i missing something?

Still no usable satellite view on west of Tenerife (the most busy tourist visited place in the whole of the Canary Islands), there is a line running the whole length of the island, to the west of which there is no way to see anything via satellite view? why is this, your beta maps on-line show it ok, but my crapmaps on phone dont. I'm forced to use Google maps which work superbly, *shakes head* free maps for everyone...only they don't work - so go buy an andriod, should be your new motto!

Hi,

I have two problems with my E6-00 running maps on Nokia Belle:
1. Nokia Store tries to update my version (3.09 12wk09 b05, Map version 0.2.45.110) everytime, but without success.
2. I wanted to update my map material for Germany, seeing that new maps were provided. After deleting the old maps, the installer was unable to install the new maps. Now I'm stuck with online navigation only!

Please help!

I have a nokia 701 here in the US.

Have Maps2.0 On the gps: How can I see a textual listing of the driving directions?

Is this not available?

hey there,
i have a problem with the last update of the map suite 2.0 on my n8.
it works fine but everday when i open the store it shows that there is always an update. But it's everytime the same update. And if I do the update, i see it on the next day again. Seems to be a little bug in the nokia store.

Hi i know this is not the place for this problem but can someone help me out please.. the new update for the nokia lumia 800.. i havent been able to update mine to that for some time now.. can someone please help? how do i get it the manual way?

Installed it a few weeks ago. Not really an improvement for me.
'Now with just a long press on your map'is not working but not important for me; just a detail. And I don't want to share everything with everybody including pictures but ok, it's an option and I can skip it. Also accept the poor data for restaurants here, it is Thailand.
The Lonely Planet is surely not heaven, mostly avoid the places they recommend, there are so much better places.
More bordering is making a route I like or prefer. It's not clear for me how to do and sync with Maps on the PC is resulting in 'unknown' destinies, even if it are my favorites. In TomTom from the last century already it was possible to travel via a place. NM keeps on sending me to the exact coordinates of that 'via place' without guiding me to my destiny.
Public Transport is not working here. Again I know, TIT but still....
Not even in the capital Bangkok, that's weird!
Navigation equipment is getting more popular here but there's a long way to go for Nokia in this area. Also surprised it's not promoted here.

I have the beta version
v3.09 12wk06 b01, Map version 0.2.45.110 on me N8
I need to use the route planning waypoints that were removed with the Nokia Belle.
Does Maps 2.0 replace this Beta version and include the route planning/waypoint system.
One problem I have just come across is the inability to skip a pre-planned waypoint for whatever reason. Due to a local diversion (traffic accident or roadworks, etc) it may be necessary to miss out a preplanned waypoint. With the pre Nokia Belle version of maps a waypoint could be skipped and the system would the route to the next waypoint. This 'skipping' is not avilable on the Beta version, is it available on Maps 2.0.
I am reluctant to upgrade to Maps 2.0 until I am sure that the wapoint planning works properly.

What about the feedback from users? Does is really get through? I reported several errors in the map data, like misnamed or mistyped roads, but after three updates the errors are still there. The old Nokia Maps on my N82 were correct...

Nokia701. 1.Weather widget freezes without even getting to area notification. Have to switch phone off to close it. 2. Compass does not work. 3. App cannot find my position on the road during trip of 180 km on N1 from Worcester to Cape Town. 4. Have reinstalled maps via Nokia suite from laptop - no improvement. 5. Why can I not find application anywhere on phone so I can uninstall and start over? Feels a bit 'big brother' to me. Lovely phone but my last Nokia (have had six), cause of apps/nokia store allowing download once and then just stuck with launch. UC Browser does not appear on store for 701 - had to find it elsewhere. And where is ability to edit word docs - my E63/71/72 could. I use this for business and quick word doc edits. Habe jad to go back to lugging laptop around again. Android it seems might be the answer.

My search keeps crashing even after final version. Anyone have any ideas?

Try to unnistall all the older Map files I cant remember which files

I'm using Maps 3.09 on Nokia N8 Belle, equally for Drive and Walk.

It's very annoying that Walk doesn't have it's own button like Drive, and that Walk isn't build the same way as Drive (i.e. the same menu-buttons. As an example, I can't find a way to just "Walk home". I really don't understand why those two (Walk and Drive) aren't designed the same way, just differing in those specific things when used in walk or drive mode.

Further there is a huge Bluetooth-problem. When Bluetooth is configured on the device, Maps asks which Paired Device to use, with the possibililty to cancel. But as a result, independent of the choice, Bluetooth is always (automatically turned) on, unneeded battery drain as a result, and it's impossible to use Maps without having Bluetooth on.

I posted these remarks already in the Support site, but never got any reply nor solution.

I create, save and use routes as part of the maps.
In the past, sometimes the GPS or my accuracy of placing a route point sometimes meant i would pass the point without it being reached on MAPS. I could easily go into maps and "bypass route-point" but i can no longer find this option so the route is useless as soon as a point is missed as the phone keeps wanting to get back to it.
HELP! any ideas?

There's a huge block missing from the Belgian maps. From Brussels to Antwerp. Just saying. :)

Now seriously: the maps are great and even though I'm disappointed on symbian, I consider going for Windows Phone (instead of android) just to be able to use a nokia-built phone with nokia maps. But I'd love to see little bugs (as the one above) fixed more often.
