Suggestion for Nokia Beta Labs

Thu, 2009-04-02 02:01 snowy: Screening Beta Members/Joining Members

Hello Illka
Screening is a bit of a harsh word to use but its the general sense of my suggestion.
So there is over 12,000 members joined in beta as of today,

Issues are arising as the number grows, such as chaos, members joining with other intentions or with mislead reason of beta labs orientation so on so forth, i know you get my point here Illka.

Following as your style suggests people dont bother much reading the FAQ or About or whatever and how you like to use more of a say discreet method of getting users attention and informing.

My suggestion would be ( if possible to all current existing user and forth coming members joining members) a questionare style of multiple choice, not a test manner but more of a way that users will be forced to interact with the questions and selecting a multiple choice answer. Not based on questions & answers to qualify but an interactive informative session.

Say example questions would be like:
-What does the definition of Beta mean to you. select a, b, c, d
-How do you perceive nokia beta labs acts as or it goal. select a, b, c, d
so on so forth, question that you see forth putting of course these are indirect questions that will inform the member in the process (which i know you will be good at making) in the end providing the solutions to the incorrect answers which will again better fortify the purpose and goal of beta labs and in the end not a score but saying hey u will do great or hey almost on your way but dont worry its a community of growth an so on. Or like it seems you are new to beta envioronmet, welcome aboard Nokia beta labs, we are delighted your first time experience will be with us etc.

In a perfect situation i say add this feature to all current accounts only shows up one time when signing up(current users when logging in). I understand it could be hard to apply something to previous work but should be used for future joining members.

P.S I do not mean direct screening but a means of prepping up members in an active form ;)
I think you will like this much Illka

Thu, 2009-04-02 10:23 Ilkka: What a splendid idea!

I'll have a chat with Tommi to discuss this. But I absolutely see the value of this.
Currently, we already have a lot of noise in the forums. We were thinking that the Nokia Account would be enough as a filter, but no. There are already a lot of users asking for general support, not reading the about pages or the FAQ, and sometimes not really adding value to the community, but rather decreasing it by adding to the chaos.
I'll see what Tommi thinks about this idea. I, for first, think it would be great, kind of a "forced" lesson before being let loose on the forums.

Thank you Iikka it makes me proud and feels good that i was recognized as the member of the month for the right subject ;)

I understand you and Tommi must be VERY busy now, with spring cleaning, and the usual habit of beta labs releasing beta's and updates towards the end and beginning of the month,

So ill leave this topic as is till further discussion.

P.S. This method will be a great way to force a read for the "about" & "FAQ" because they will be looking for the knowledge to answer the questions. No body wants to score low, its human nature ;)
